i'm well aware of this, but in general those guys only tend to make a statement like that at a hardcore show with fsu bands, i.e. someone like Shattered Realm or Colin of Arabia or Death Before Dishonor. also, it's not 2004 anymore and most people in the "crew" are reaching and into their 30s and calming down, it's not a gang that actively recruits or something like that. i've booked an FSU band before and they are laid back guys, but they take up for their friends, notoriety be damned sometimes kids think their hot shit and run their mouths too much and don't realize that there are people who you need to shut the fuck up around, or you're going to get a reaction more severe than you intended.

teenage boys on the other hand want to show off, and are still in the peacock phase, and are pretty prone to do something ignorant like this.

also if it weren't for FSU the issue of nazi skins at hardcore shows may or may not have been resolved as soon or at all for that matter, there's no way to tell, so give credit where it's due.

making broadstroke judgments of a subculture that's been around for over 40 years is very fringe-society.

i've seen real punk culture, and no they weren't scene kids. i know real hardcore dudes, and no they weren't scene kids (:wave:). also being silly when you were 15 doesn't mean you can't actually be involved in something that rejects that.

the truth is its a very fringe thing and has no presence in the mainstream

in the mainstream you will instantly find scene kids who talk about chan all day

saying that in mainstream society it doesn't exist is a pretty broadstroke judgment, examples of punx:
teachers
chefs (ever heard of anthony bourdain?)
construction workers
lawyers
etc.

just because someone doesn't spend their whole day talking about new up-and-coming bands doesn't mean they aren't punk or hardcore or whatever, it means they're a (probably) well-rounded person with more important shit going on. as people get older, it's not as easy to spot them because adults aren't so much into standing out all the time (shit gets people watching you too much).
