That sounds like a snore-fest.

:amaze: 10-06-2009 05:08 PM

Eh, I find it rather interesting, being an environmental science major. However, I have no political science background, so I'm really struggling on this.

I don't think I'll be able to find any before tomorrow morning ... plus, I have to handle it as I turn it in. I don't think that'd be in my best interests ....

You look like a snore-face.

Whatever, man.

Whatever.

You also seem to smell an awful lot like a dead snore-fish.
No offense.
Not to rain on your parade, but you cannot run 5k?

Also, nine weeks to train just to run 5k is lol.
I probably could run 5k, but my goal is to be able to do it extremely comfortably. You're telling me that you are in good enough shape to lace up a pair of shoes and run for 5k without stopping or feeling tired?

And yeah, 9 weeks is a lot but if I were to actually run everyday it could be completed in just under four weeks.

Actually, I believe I could throw on a pair of shoes and run 5k without complications. I am extremely active, though, and I do not know your exercise habits.

funkyhoney 10-06-2009 08:36 PM

What speed are you talking about "running" 5ks?

I can go that far at a quick jog, I usually only do around 3.5 interval training though.

I sure as **** couldn't do a 5000 metre run without getting exhausted. Especially not at a competitive speed, if I could jog it as slow as I wanted maybe it'd be better but I couldn't push the pace for 5K non-stop.

funkyhoney 10-06-2009 09:54 PM

That email I sent paid off! I've pretty much got a gig writing a journal about my band as well as a few articles about alcohol and drugs.

BassVirtuoso 10-06-2009 10:08 PM

I need to sell my bass =/

FunkMetalBass 10-06-2009 10:19 PM

I might be able to run [jog] 5k, but I sure would be tired by the end of the second mile. Especially in the Arizona heat. Gah

My Elite 4. I'm thinking about just taking it to Sam Ash and seeing what they'll give me for it since there doesn't seem to be a market for the bass right now.

Good luck, mate. The SamAsh near me isn't even accepting sales - only trades. It may be a company-wide thing too. You might be stuck with eBay, TalkBass, or Craigslist.
I need to sell my basses as well, but I cannot bring myself to do it.
This. Even sh*t I don't play...although I attribute the fact that I haven't sold my Carvin yet to laziness.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with my old Brice. It's defretted and has the most random mods to it (lights, killswitch, ramp), as well as a hole in the middle of it from a flawed plan to wire up a stereo out. If anybody would wanna buy it, I probably couldn't get more than $50 for it.
That email I sent paid off! I've pretty much got a gig writing a journal about my band as well as a few articles about alcohol and drugs.
Nice, how do they work out what to pay writers, is it a flat rate per article, or like contract for a time or something?

It's not by the word is it? :p

Pluperfect_Arson 10-06-2009 11:44 PM
Even sh*t I don't play
I have a bunch of stuff sitting around as well.

I have a Carvin 1x15 I have not played out of in 5 (?) years. I do not play out of my Peavey Series 400 amp anymore even though I love it, but it has DC leakage, so lol at being electrocuted by everything. I would fix it, but I really do not want to throw money into it. I play out of a Model T or V4 at practice, so selling my amp would not hurt me, and I have a separate full stack, so the Carvin cab needs to go.

I defretted my four string to bring it back to life, but I cannot play in my band or, really, music in general because I have had a B string in my life for so long.

Then, I went back to playing my 6 string, but I have come to the conclusion I do not like frets much anymore.

I have a friend, drummer from my band Ochre, lined up to buy my five string, but I need to figure out a way to have it sent up from Eugene.

I wish I could get into fretless playing more. Maybe if I had a nice fretless, like that Fretless Warwick that guy on TB has for sale, or if I could get into it a bit more.

How do you dial in your fretless tone? Rounds or flats?

FunkMetalBass 10-07-2009 01:10 AM

I thought about it, and I had a pretty sweet idea -

3-way pickup switch, except the center position actually feeds through a blend, so you could do different blend with a 30/70 instead of just 50/50.

gaslight 10-07-2009 01:21 AM

Ordered my SR706 today, should pick it up Friday.

Then I'll begin saving for a Cort B5 Fretless if I can find one to try out.

See, my idea was that, after I sold all of my basses, I would purchase a Brice HXB-406 fretless as a beater bass, then use the rest of the money I had to kick around for a bit, since I leave in February for Basic.

Also, I seem to receive a lot more mwah from the bridge position pickup, so I have emphasis on the bridge pickup over the neck, use the same EQ as I do with fretted since I like my mids slightly scooped for the most part. I use rounds as well, which is where the awesome fretless tone of death comes from. I do not like flats as it is, haha.

If you have not heard Obscura, you should listen to them. Their bassist has a mean fretless tone.

burtonbassist_102 10-07-2009 03:00 AM

yeah, rounds on a fretless is pretty much win. i have a set of snarling dogs on my sx fretless, it actually sounds really good.

It's unpaid at the moment which is good because it's easy for me to write more freely and get experience. But when it does evolve into that I'd say it'd be based on traffic figures and paid out of advertising revenue and they're generally not-for-profit enterprises. If it's not that it'd generally be a negotiable flat rate depending on style/content/length/longevity. Per-word generally applies to print press that take freelance work.

I'd be worried that rounds would do too much damage to my fretboard.

gaslight 10-07-2009 09:35 AM

I suppose if you just recoat it with enough epoxy regularly it would survive.

FunkMetalBass 10-07-2009 09:39 AM

1000mg of Niacin was a terrible move on my part. Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

:amaze: 10-07-2009 09:47 AM

God, you're going to be pissing out orange juice. at least that's what it'll look/feel like.
God, you're going to be pissing out orange juice. at least that's what it'll look/feel like.
Vitamin B12, which usually has niacin lumoed in with it, is what turns your pee colors. I've never had a problem with niacin and weird-colored pee before.

I've also never taken double the dose before.

Everything from my chest up was RED this morning for about 20 minutes. I felt so hot. Too much...

That's true. I think, instead, that I'll just make my Squier P-bass a fretless. Put a nice ebanol fretboard on there, paint the neck and headstock black, and essentially make it a stealth fretless P.

Why would you bother to replace the fretboard on a Squier? I mean, seriously. It's a waste of time.

:amaze: 10-07-2009 10:22 AM

maybe cuz he wants to?
Why would you bother to replace the fretboard on a Squier? I mean, seriously. It's a waste of time.
I'd be purchasing a whole new neck:
http://cgi.ebay.com/FRETLESS-PRECISION-P-BASS-GUITAR-aNECK-FENDER-LIC_W0QQitemZ370196294182QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item56316b2a26

Nothing Fender makes strikes me as "quality" anyways, so cheap aftermarket parts, a cheap ebanol neck, and some SD Quarter Pounders will make a fine fretless comparable to the CIJ/MIJ Fenders for less than $300.
What speed are you talking about "running" 5ks?

Sprinting. I could easily jog it.
I might be able to run [jog] 5k, but I sure would be tired by the end of the second mile. Especially in the Arizona heat. Gah
It's getting colder here, too which apparently makes jogging/running easier.

BenJammin 10-07-2009 02:09 PM

If anyone is interested, I finished recording a new song that's going on my EP of solo bass music. It'll be the last bit of solo bass I'll be doing for a good while. Another track or two to finish it up and then I'll be posting the whole thing for free, anyway.

"Again and Again"

I played this one live a year or so ago, but I forgot how to play parts of it, so I had to rewrite it, haha. Oh well... any excuse to work in that open B. ;) Which I find myself using more and more. I guess writing lines to go under two guitarists does that.

BenJammin 10-07-2009 03:52 PM

I killed it, eh?

Well played, sir. Well played.
I'd be worried that rounds would do too much damage to my fretboard.
It is not a huge worry, imo.

When I defretted my GSR200, I put six coats of poly over the fretboard, and it has held up like a champ to abuse.

If worse comes to worse and you have grooves in your board, you could always plane it, then coat it again.

It is why harder woods, like ebony, are generally better for fretless. :D
It's getting colder here, too which apparently makes jogging/running easier.
There was an article in Runner's World about running in the cold and running in 0-degree weather.
