IMO PBTT's side is better, and you didn't convince me of nothing, I just liked their new album fool.
Why must you always front? I recced it to you and you said you'd give it a shoot but you never really liked them before.
all I know about The Saddest Landscape is that they are the laughing stock of the same people who thought they were the saviours of emo five years ago. the only The Saddest Landscape I've really listened to is "Weighing Out the Desirables". it's good. been meaning to check out their new album.
What?

christsimpson 10-29-2010 02:05 PM
the saddest landscape is weird. they haven't really changed much but attitudes about them have changed dramatically.
that's because they're doing the same thing now they were doing then. the only difference is that they are now like 30 and so it seems artificial, embarrassing and obnoxious.

I don't have any opinion on the matter, because I haven't really checked them out, but that's the reason people dislike them.

also I just found out why La Dispute, Touche Amore, Make Do and Mend (or whatever they are called), Pianos Become the Teeth and the rest of the "wave" are made fun of. I approve. music-wise I like Pianos Become the Teeth a lot though.

xMalcolmXx 10-29-2010 02:08 PM

wait why are they made fun of?

Xplisit 10-29-2010 02:11 PM

Checked out Capsule, didn't really like it
those are all really dumb reasons to make fun of bands js
not really. at least not if the band calls itself punk/hardcore/emo/whatever. then they're really good reasons tbh.

witchxrapist 10-29-2010 05:44 PM

Yeah, no.

1. Guarantees = making sure you don't end up in debt touring. Anybody who thinks trying to break even is laughable is a tool.

I mean yeah, they could totally forge checks and steal from people like Black Flag, that would be like so much more respectable!

2. Booking agencies = helpful, the idea that you can't get help booking shows without being a joke is a joke in itself.

3. Press photos are part of getting noticed as a band. Minor Threat and Black Flag have press photos ffs.

4. iTunes = putting music up for purchase is all of a sudden laughable? since when?

christsimpson 10-29-2010 05:47 PM

guarantees are stupid. that's like saying "fuck you" to the promoters and venues because you are rock stars.

diy means booking things yourself tbh.

Minor Threat and Black Flag don't have those cheesy "screamo" Alternative Press photos. I haven't really looked at La Dispute or whatever band's press photos though. this is just something I see people point out about these "wave" bands.

iTunes is a ridiculous medium for music trade. and yeh, the very notion of putting music up for sale is really stupid. CDs, vinyl, etc are all fine. but selling music per se is retarded. just put it up for free download and ask people to buy your LP.

witchxrapist 10-29-2010 05:53 PM
guarantees are stupid. that's like saying "fuck you" to the promoters and venues because you are rock stars.
I fail to see you logic here. It's more like, "dudes, I don't wanna play this show if I'll end up in debt over it."
diy means booking things yourself tbh.
Are these bands claiming DIY?

And on the opposite side, kids gave props to Ceremony for taking all the info off their myspace because it wasn't "DIY" because they didn't make myspace. By that logic nothing is DIY, because I'm pretty sure punk bands don't make their own paper and ink for show flyers either. Pretty sure Ceremony doesn't make their own vinyl, weave their own cotton, etc.
Minor Threat and Black Flag don't have those cheesy "screamo" Alternative Press photos. I haven't really looked at La Dispute or whatever band's press photos though. this is just something I see people point out about these "wave" bands.
Minor Threat and Black Flag were also touring in the '80s, not currently.
iTunes is a ridiculous medium for music trade.
How so? It's a popular, relatively cheap medium.
and yeh, the very notion of putting music up for sale is really stupid. CDs, vinyl, etc are all fine. but selling music per se is retarded. just put it up for free download and ask people to buy your LP.
IDK what your logic here is either.

christsimpson 10-29-2010 05:55 PM

rock star mentality

if they claim punk they claim diy that's how it works

what does that have to do with anything

no it's not. it's fucking corporate bullshit. there are plenty of cheap/free independent services that sell music. but selling music is stupid anyhow. just put it up for free download. fuck the bucks.

christsimpson 10-29-2010 05:56 PM

who in here was asking how to scream?
this dude has it down
rock star mentality
since when is not wanting to end up in debt for playing shows a "rock star mentality"?
if they claim punk they claim diy that's how it works
First off, not every classic punk band claimed diy, and I don't think any of the bands in question claim diy, I might be wrong.
what does that have to do with anything
Time frame effects the style of press photography.
no it's not. it's fucking corporate bullshit.
Compare buying a few songs you want off iTunes to paying $18 for a CD with only 4 songs you want. That's where the word "relatively" comes in.

I have friends in an unsigned band who released their EP on iTunes, and now they make decent money off of it. Is that laughable because they weren't claiming to be DIY in the first place (even though they payed out of their pockets to get their EP recorded)?
there are plenty of cheap/free independent services that sell music.
Irrelevant.
but selling music is stupid anyhow.
lol?

christsimpson 10-29-2010 06:03 PM

"hey I won't pay your club unless you pay me $700 up front if you can't afford it fuck you" is p much rock star mentality

punk means diy unless you're like Green Day or Ramones then it means "we only know approximately three chords"

the style of press photography does not dictate look stupid

compare buying 4 songs off of iTunes with buying them from another on-line store with no fees (so all the money goes to the band)

compare buying 4 songs off of iTunes to just downloading them for free

fuck selling music

That's not the mentality behind it though.

It's more like, could you guys please get us roughly $700 so that we don't end up debt after this tour? Cause like, otherwise, we might need to skip out to make sure we can afford living on this tour.
punk means diy unless you're like Green Day or Ramones then it means "we only know approximately three chords"
I'm pretty sure that's an arbitrary definition.
the style of press photography does not dictate look stupid
That's irrelevant to my point that the style of press photos has to do with time frame.
compare buying 4 songs off of iTunes with buying them from another on-line store with no fees (so all the money goes to the band)
Those other music stores aren't as popular as iTunes though.
