Who cares how good they are at their instruments? They're a good band and that's what matters.
I think it's funny how people come in here and diss the musical ability of Mark, Tom, or Travis when 1) None of you are successful professional musicians as far as I know, 2)The vast majority of you have probably never even tried to play in a band and therefore don't know how much work it takes, and 3) Mark, Tom, Travis and any other major musician doesn't give a crap what you think.
Just thought I'd put that out there.
I'm not insulting his ability to play. I'm merely saying he isn't as amazing as everyone says. Ps. Your #2 is wrong, the vast majority of people here are musicians and therefore have at least jammed with other people. I know tons of people here who are in bands, and some of them have actually been quite successful. And as for them not caring. Yes they do, of course they do, they wouldn't have released a Greatest Hits album like they did if they didn't want to make some more money out of it. And if they want to make money, they must care what people think. Plus Tom and all his boasting about how good AAA will be. I'm sure he must care. 1027z(Or whatever it is :p): I actually agree with you. For once. Just because people aren't a professional at something doesn't mean you can't judge them. Your theory would also mean that, because I'm not a politician I can't judge the Prime Minister of my country and how he runs it. Because I'm not an Author, I can't judge a book that I've read. I'm sure you get my point. |
i retract my "true dat playa" statement

I'm sure you get my point.
its actually the record companies choice to make a greatest hits cd......and jsut for an example, afi got screwed over for it cause their record company made a GH cd for them and they werent planning to do that untill they were done with music. i also think ppl should liten up, bands like blink 182 arent going to care what u say about their skill.......they've already made it to the big time so they dont have to worry about that ****, plus i imagine if tom was one of those guys who felt the need to rip a huge *** solo in every song, then they wouldnt be anywere near as popular as they are now. but i do agree every1 is entitled to their own opinion, if u wanna say tom sucks at guitar then so be it there is nothing any1 can do about it but think about how much of an a-hole people are. OH, and one more think some of u guys should check the online vids blink 182 has on their sites..........it shows how amazing travis is i mean this guy has much style its unbeliveable! thats what alot of ppl dont realize, he takes so many diff aspects of the drums and uses so many of them but its hard to tell with guitar and bass over it |
I think you should stop posting until you finish elementary school. Perhaps then you'll be able to use the skills you learn to form a comprehendable sentence.

His writing makes my eyes bleed.

its not that hard to understand, but i mean being a drummer who can play by ear who has been studying drums for a long time and i have tons of drummer friends who have been playing longer than me who give me pointers...i think its safe to say that travis doesnt SUCK, but he's not quite as amazing as everyone seems to think he is...
lets put it this way: every blink song (including the ones with scott on drums) and boxcar racer song, and DEFINATELY every transplants song, and every aquabats song with travis on drums...i could figure them out the first few times i listened to them now listen to josh freese with the vandals...he's a MUCH better drummer...he's just as fast as travis barker, does session work with many different people (basically anywhere between A Perfect Circle to Sting) and Glenn Porter and Derek Grant with Alkaline Trio, or Mike Felumlee with Smoking Popes and Alkaline Trio...all three of those drummers have at least one song with alkaline trio that i have been working on for months/over a year...theyre all reallllllllly quick and smooth and have amazing beats and fills and mark kind of sucks at bass as far as i know...im anxious to hear him with plus 44 to see if he'll bust out some crazy bass lines unexpected of him rather than just root notes tom, i cant say he's good or bad i dont know anything about guitar...i like how his stuff sounds personally, but my brother could play every blink song ever recorded when he still played...so apparently he thought it was easy |
I can't really judge mark because I've never played with him or seen him solo..etc. But I do know that root notes did fit blink. Tom played basically the melody and Mark had the bass. He could have done a better job such as ading fills.
|
Mark could have made Blink's music just a little bit more interesting by occasionally adding a fill or something. Root notes fit in well, but other pop-punk bassists use fills and frankly it gives the music a little more dimension.

Honestly, marks playing fits blinks style. I mean he practically was the bassist and rythym guitarist in one when they played live. He has to play quick as. No one can really add interesteing fills when you play that quick. And on another hand, i saw mark playing bass in this video when he was sitting on a couch, and he was slapping and popping and stuff. He also has eally good technique for a punk bassist.:thumb: |
Yeah, his style fits the music. You don't need to jazz it up if the formula is working.

Dude ranch has some cool bass lines, not neccesarily hard bass lines but cool ones, e.g Boring, Josie, Emo, Apple Shampoo, Degenerate etc. And some other cool ones: Marlbaro Man Carousel (Supposed to be easy, but i dont see many root notes) Man Overboard Anthem Pt II Online songs There are probably more if i think harder |
To guitarists, Travis is a good drummer as he keeps good time.
That is all. P.S. ever played with a drummer who can't keep time? Where I come from we burn them with phospherous bombs. |

I heard mark does have some Tattoos, does anyone know if this is true?
sorry, forgot my pill
Be sure to take it next time. |
I heard mark does have some Tattoos, does anyone know if this is true?
Nah not sure about tattoos, but I know he has his nipple pierced. |
pfft they might suck at there instruments but there making more money then all the "good" instrument players so really by saying mark tom and travis suck there pratically bagging all those "awsome guitar players" who are 1/5th as wealthy if that as them.....
"they suck but they still pwn every1" |
I didn't really understand that, sorry.
|
No one ever really does understand him...
Some good guitar players will be as wealthy/wealthier than Blink. |
1. Just because u arent a professional musician doesnt mean you cant have a opinion....
2. Alot of people in this thread are in bands 3. We are just discussion it between the thread users which is the whole point of a thread.
I wasn't saying you couldn't discuss it, I was just saying that people's comments like "Mark sucks at bass" were getting kind of old. Until yesterday or the day before, I hadn't been here in like 2 weeks at least and I still saw a comment like that every page or so.
Ps. Your #2 is wrong, the vast majority of people here are musicians and therefore have at least jammed with other people. I know tons of people here who are in bands, and some of them have actually been quite successful.
I was referring more to a working band that makes their own music, plays shows regularly and/or say has some kind of record deal. I'm pretty sure those numbers are a bit smaller than everyone who has hit a few bass notes or whatever while their buddies were playing.
And as for them not caring. Yes they do, of course they do, they wouldn't have released a Greatest Hits album like they did if they didn't want to make some more money out of it. They want you to listen, but they don't care if you think they suck or don't deserve to be where they're at. That's what I was getting at, and Mark has said so before.
Just because people aren't a professional at something doesn't mean you can't judge them. I'm sure you get my point.
No that wasn't really my point. Like I said, I was just pointing out that this discussion is getting kind of old and that little comments like "Travis is a crappy drummer" are just kind of lame in general and won't change how he plays. You guys can discuss what you want, I just wanted to point that out. |

I didn't say they didn't deserve it. They do. If they can make music that appeals to the masses like they have then all the power to them. I'm saying that you can't not care. If they say they don't care, that's nice. Tom also says AAA will be the best band ever. Doesn't mean he's telling the truth. I'm sure they care a bit. You wouldn't make music if you didn't care. They've never had to worry about that though because there's always been people who liked them. And for a good reason.
No that wasn't really my point. What does that have to do with our ability to judge how good they play? |
I heard mark does have some Tattoos, does anyone know if this is true?
I'm quite sure he doesn't. |
I'm quite sure he doesn't.
Im quite sure your wrong, 10000% sure. He has "Skye" on one wrist and "Jake" or "jack" i forget on the other. |
pwned
lawl. Why would it matter if he had tattoos or not? |
Because someone asked.
He used otnot have any back in the day. And Tom and Scott/Travis were the only ones who had them. At least, I think. He has way less of them than the other two, anyways. |
He got them in 03 i beleave, i remember watching a video on the blink182 site, one of the cehtah videos, and he was showing them off.
