Drum Phil 08-12-2007 02:26 PM

I havent tried one but i hear the sustain, volume and decay are much lower/shorter and its fairly trashy.
I wont be crashing it, ill have to figure a way to use my sweet ride as a crash ride :D
I thought sweet rides were pretty much crash-rides anyways.

What's the difference between the platinum and not-platinum rock rides??

To the best of my knowledge, a very thin layer of platinum.

Ollie The Drumming Legend 08-14-2007 05:11 AM

Heya. I'm looking for an all-around china, medium sustain and fairly trashy but not excessively so, but nonetheless I want it to definitely sound like a china if you get what I mean.

Current other cymbals:

13 a custom mastersound hats
16 hh med thin crash
17 a custom projection crash
20 k custom dry ride

I was considering maybe a Zildjian A china (high or low), or oriental classic china, in something like 16 - 19" size. Any ideas?

Aaron 08-14-2007 06:23 AM

18" Oriental

A silver coating. Makes them sound like an A/A Custom hybrid :)

Nicest cymbals zildjian ever made.

18" China boy Low. It's a wonderful china and it's awesome for riding.

santi3hg 08-14-2007 10:52 AM

Hey I need some suggestions for hi-hats.

I want something bright sounding, that does not sound too metallic when played close but is crisp as well. Rather bright when playing open.

Appreciate the help.

Panopticon 08-14-2007 11:04 AM

A/A Custom Mastersounds. If that's too bright try the K's
AAXcellerators. If that's too bright, try the HHX's
Paiste *insert series here* soundedges.

Try the normal 14" Zildjian A Custom hats as well as the Sabian Vaults.

fastlane 08-14-2007 11:26 AM

i have the a custom hats and i love them. they're pretty bright. i wouldnt go any brighter myself. but great hats

Ollie The Drumming Legend 08-14-2007 03:08 PM

13 a custom mastersounds are more or less as bright as you can go, as far as I've played on.

I would try normal a customs, or maybe the mastersounds, definitely 14", or perhaps the normal As. If you go K then I would get definitely mastersounds. Well, I say that but I haven't played any for ages, so...

Try some AA regular hats?

Paiste signature sound edges, or else the 2002 ones/

ant_182 08-14-2007 03:09 PM

paiste 2002 sound edges,
a mastersounds
a custom mastersounds :)

santi3hg 08-14-2007 06:37 PM

Thanks guys, I'll go with the Sabian and Paiste mentioned.

I've tried the a/a custom mastersounds but absolutely hate the sound of them closed and they sound alright to me open.

fishbulb 08-14-2007 06:44 PM

Well the vaults are basically replicas of the normal A Customs.

santi3hg 08-14-2007 07:31 PM

I'll try out the Xcelerators series or however they are properly named. They have stage, studio, and what other type of hats? They also got HHXelerators now as well right?

fishbulb 08-14-2007 07:49 PM

They also have Fusions if i'm not mistaken. They might just be 13" or something though.

Drum Phil 08-15-2007 09:42 AM

Fusions have an unlathed, flat/drilled bottom i think.

santi3hg 08-16-2007 05:51 PM

I haven't even heard of these fusions. Don't think any store near me stocks them.

Drum Phil 08-17-2007 01:17 AM

They're pretty nice.

Damo has the bottom of one on his hats.

Damo 08-18-2007 11:51 PM

The Fusion bottom hat is unlathed, is very thick and has two holes drilled in the bell for a tighter, higher pitched bell sound.

The waviness of both the Mastrsound and Xcellerator hats will make them considerably darker to listen to than a fusion set of hihats.

santi3hg 08-19-2007 01:14 AM

Damo are those hats that Sabian as heavily out there in production and in stores or nah? Sounds like something I'm looking for.

iamjoe2 08-19-2007 10:33 AM

im looking for a good bell, like the zil-bell, but im not really of fan of it...

i have a flat ride cymbal so this will be like a rc bell for me so thats the sound im going for..

fastlane 08-19-2007 10:58 AM

iamjoe2 08-19-2007 12:27 PM

the stagg website and its no go...

fastlane 08-19-2007 12:30 PM

hmm im not forsure tbh. like i said idk much about them do to the lack of experience but that is what most people will recommend especially for the price.

iamjoe2 08-19-2007 01:20 PM

thats the thing, even if i got one i wouldent know what size to get cause i cant hear em,

guitar center doesent stock stagg, nither do my local 5* drum shop, or anywhere else for that matter, and theresite dosent have em soooo..

Drum Phil 08-20-2007 01:42 PM
