I forgot all about that one, its great (except the guitar solo isn't half as good as Iommi's.) |
Not many people may agree with me but I really like War Pigs off of Just Say Ozzy. I think Zakk really does a good job (whitch is supprising to me since I don't really like Zakk's guitar work for the most part) and Geezer is on bass, and I always thought Geezer was awsome.
That EP is quite good in general. |
Wasn't Just Say Ozzy that live album full of Sabbath songs? If it is Zakk Wylde didn't play on it. In fact Jake E Lee was still to come before Zakk.
|
Just Say Ozzy was released in 1991-ish on the No More Tears tour.
Speak/Talk of the Devil is the shockingly crap Ozzy live album thats full of Sabbath covers, which had a guitarist who I can't remember the name of playing on it, but it deff. wasn't Jake E Lee or Zakk (or Randy, seeing as he had died) |
godsmack-------------sweat leaf
white zombie------------children of the grave both really good covers, even though i dont like godsmack like at all |

I have heard Paranoid from that Speak Of The Devil one and I agree, shockingly crap. |
Oh no its dieing again. Trivia time.
Who was originally intended to play bass after Born Again, but before Sabbath broke up and Iommi recorded Seventh Star? |
I dont know but im going to pretend i know jsut to bump the thread...although if i get really stuck i will have to cheat
|
Hehe its a pretty stupid answer really, Geezer Butler.
|
Damn, this thread is in it lowest moments. Ill start a discussion. Quite simple really just recommend some good Sabbath songs to play on guitar/bass/drums/sing, and then Im sure discussion will follow. Ill start. Symptom Of The Universe, its a fairly easy songs besides the lead bits and the solo but a hell of alot of fun to play.
|
On drums good songs to play are Paranoid (i know its overdone and all but it is good for beginners to learn to help with timing and so on)
NIB is quite good to play aswell, it has some fun beats and fills in it i keep meaning to learn symtpon of the universe on the drums but i have never had time to do it might aswell whore this site while we are talking about tablature http://www.rdrop.com/~mjames/sabbath/index.html |
I'd say NIB's great on any instrument. The main guitar/bass riff never gets old.
|
Any Sabbath song is good to play on bass, especially the earlier stuff because there's more room for improvisation.
|
^ I find that with guitar as well, I love doing improv over the wizard, even iommi does a fair bit of that at the start. Also Ive got a feeling drums are improv on Symptom Of The Universe, cos all my versions (one studio and two live) are different, my favourite being the studio version.

Okies... I have:
Paranoid Master Of Reality Black Sabbath What album should I get next? I'd prefer to get stuff from earlier in their career really, I didn't like what I heard of the later stuff. |
Volume 4 is a definate must-buy.
|
I would suggest you got Sabotage or Live pasts, they are both great albums
then dehumanizer or Headless cross if you want to move off ozzy era albums |
Yes, Volume 4 is the obvious direction you should be heading in. Plus, it's got Supernaut, which is what I wanted to talk about anyway.
I think it's the best riff Iommi's ever come up with, or at least the most overlooked for it's sheer asskicking ability. Supernaut! |
well since it is ver yunlikely anyone is going to say it when talking about supernaut i will, the way Bill plays the hi-hats in that song (mostly during the main/opening riff) is awesome, dont know why it sounds so good but it is
|
Here's how it breaks down.
Black Sabbath > Master of Reality > Paranoid > Vol. 4 |
I've only heard songs off of Paranoid.
|
Let me guess...Iron Man, Paranoid, and War Pigs?

If you're a Black Sabbath fan then it's sacrelige. I would suggest getting the album just because it's a freakin' classic. Their self titled is the best though. |
