I don't buy it, sorry. You need to open your eyes and learn how to read, or get familiar with Opeth Discography.
Wow, relax.
I love Deliverance to. :thumb: \m/
I'm sorry :p It's all good. |
I'm confused. Is Pelican the support act for Opeth at the Commodore in Vancouver or is it S.T.R.E.E.T.S ? The Hob site mentions the latter but the ticketmaster guy said Pelican last week. Who are the streets and are they good?
Any answers are much appreciated. |
Deliverance is beastly...
Unless I'm thinking of someone else, the Streets is an English rapper... I must be thinking of someone else then. Still can't believe my Opeth concert is 18+... :upset: |
Yeah, the Streets are a Brit rap group....I don't think that that is who is opening for Opeth, though. :D
|
Any recommendations for a first Opeth album?? havent heard them but ive heard they are good. I'm a Dream Theater fan so are there any albums similar to them?
|
Blackwater Park.
Still Life. One of the two will suffice. |
thanketh ye.
have opeth got a decent guitarist??? as in awsome |
Uh, sure.
|
Mike, the vocalist is also the lead guitarist. He's not AWESOME (no Petrucci) but hes definitely a capable guitarist. He's gotten better with time, thats for sure. Some of his best solos (if not, his best) are on the new album, Ghost Reveries. Plus his acoustic parts are amazing. I think that is his strong point, besides his sheer brilliance when it comes to songwriting/composition. For awesome acoustic parts, check out the album "Still Life".

I'd say Still Life owns as their best acoustic moments.
AND it has Face of Melinda. |

AND it has Face of Melinda.
Definitely. Face of Melinda is my favorite song by them and Still Life has the best acoustic parts (The Moor....OMG) All their albums have great acoustic stuff though. If you ask me, the metal parts don't show off the guitarists' skills nearly as much as the acoustic parts. |

Plus Opeth is free from wankage in any form, except for the excessive metaphorical wanking on albums like BWP :) |

And absolute brilliance wanking. But thats not even true wank. Oh and to the dude whos just getting into them, be prepared for some harsh vocals. |
Man, I hate Petrucci. Although he's techinally more skilled, I think Mike pwns him in many many ways.

The only thing Petrucci has on Mike is he can play a lot faster, and knows more about the guitar (theory wise). Otherwise Mike beats him. Plus Mike is a kick ass vocalist. |

Oh and to the dude whos just getting into them, be prepared for some harsh vocals.
Yeah, those were the barrier between me and getting into Opeth for a while. Once you get used to those, you can fully enjoy the band. It helps if you start out with the softer stuff to get you hooked on the acoustic parts and the great riffing and the clean vocals and then you won't mind the growling so much. |

Exactly. Mike has a much more defined and unique style, creativity, and emotion. No to mention the best metal vocalist alive right now. Petrucci knows his theory and can play fast as hell, but still manages to bore the living hell out of me. |

I know love the mans growls. The power in his voice can't be beaten. |
Mike is easily better than Petrucci. Don't get me wrong, I love Petrucci. But theory dosen't mean crap, if you can't apply it to make amazing music. I think Mike's guitar playing is above his in songwriting.
|
Akerfeld's acoustic playing is hypnotising.

I still think he can make amazing music, listen to A Change in Seasons. Its just the past few years he seems to choose not to make amazing music. Mike on the other hand... (with the exception of GR..) |
I think Train Of Thought is amazing.
And Ghost Reveries. |
I think Train Of Thought is amazing.
And Ghost Reveries.
Train of Thought was awesome, its only flaw = keyboard wank... which I hate more then any other kind of wank. |
You should vote on a name for the Opeth thread :p
P.S. Is Still Life a concept album? Although I can't say I've really listened to it heaps so far, I'm pretty sure in "The Moor" Mikael says something about Melinda, and then the song "The Face of Melinda", probably totally unrelated, but meh, it's Opeth, so I was just thinking it could be possible... |
Yep, Still Life is most certainly a concept album. Sputnik has a great review of the album with the basic outline of the story.
|
The name should be...
"Look your last upon the sun - Opeth" |

I still love Petrucci's songwriting. I just like Mike's more. And the thread shouldbe called "The Moor: The Opeth Thread" |
The name should be...
"Look your last upon the sun - Opeth"
Quoted for awesomeness. |
