If you have wondered, the picture on the front page that has made you hungry since Tacographics' inception is from this place. Puffy motherfucking Taco. It is definitely out of my DTZ (designated taco zone for those who have forgotten) but my dad wanted to go and I was bored as hell.
There is a standard fare of items here, but c'mon. You go here for puffy tacos. Period, end of sentence. They have picadillo beef, chicken, and carne asada ones. The beef is meh, it's greasy. The chicken is decent, but you want to get carne asada here. It's good. I would say it is probably my favorite - it has a slightly charred texture which contains the juices. I'm guessing the meat is fried inside the corn tortilla in the puffy taco making process. Anyway, Puffy Tacos rule. A fried corn shell containing the meat, lettuce, tomatoes and red salsa. I will say their salsa is too liquid-y and too onion-y - both the green and red sauce. Other than that, goddamn. I would eat here a lot more if it was closer. The plate also comes with a hefty portion of beans, rice, and chips which are great. I left full but still wanting more because it's just that good. |
I'm gonna make a whole joke of unfunnny jokes.

"Mods are asleep, post some CP" - immortal words echoed by the souls of the damned. If you know what I'm talking about you're probably on the internet a lot, and nobody's judging you. If you don't know what I'm talking about, CP is cheese pizza and we'll leave it at that.
After class I skated down to Round Table, almost ran over this retarded bitch who was on the phone NO BIG DEAL. I've eaten there twice in the 4+ years I've been at school, because it's like $6 for a small pizza and it's just not any good. I just was thinking, meh I'll try it to see if it got any better since the last time and write a review since MY OPINIONS OBVIOUSLY MATTER. The first quadrant of pizza I ate was good, a nice blend of "rustic" sauce, cheese and crust. The other 3/4's however, were just like I remembered. Barely any sauce and a thick layer of moderately greasy cheese. It's basically cheese bread. NO THANKS, ROUND TABLE. Maybe I'll get the garlic sticks sometime w/ a side of the marinara sauce. That actually sounds good now, as I'm still hungry and need something to get rid of this bland cheese bread taste. |

How did I spend my spring break? Well, I had more fish tacos than I'll ever have in the rest of my life. What have I learned from all this? I'm not a fish taco guy, period end of sentance.
El Pollo Loco - Baja Fish Taco: My first fish taco was the advertised one from El Pollo Loco. They got rid of steak but brought in this? I can't remember what exactly the commercial stated, but I recall it saying these are "bursting with flavor". More like bursting with NOTHING. These fish tacos literally had no taste, I couldn't believe it. The cabbage - nothing, cilantro - nothing, sauce - nothing, the fish - nothing, and the tortilla (which overwhelmed hints of anything with a resemblance of taste) - nothing. On the bright side, at least the texture was ok and I now know what eating something without taste buds must feel like. |
I went here for my birthday since my brother had dumb drumline practice so I had to find somewhere close. Applebee's is like Chili's obviously, but for the one or two foreign readers, they're American chain restaurants.
It was Happy Hour so I almost ordered mozzarella sticks before seeing these motherfuckers called wonton tacos. Seeing as how this is TACOGRAPHICS, I ordered them in an instant. Wontons - good. Tacos - great. Wonton Tacos? Yes, they were delicious. Filled mostly with grilled chicken, they were topped with some sort of cabbage mix (or it could have just been cole slaw). Either way, I would get these again. I ate most of them and shared the rest. The only thing bad about them was the obvious msg aftertaste. I will write a THINGS THAT CAN FOAD LIST soon enough. |

It's been a long day, school, then went to the NAMM Convention and met someone who is pretty cool. On the long journey from the parking structure to the Anaheim Convention Center I saw a food court. It had the classic variety - pizza, chinese food, mexican food, smoothies, burgers, and beer. Some say variety is the spice of life, and I would tend to agree with that statement. However, this is motherfucking Tacographics. It is already pre-determined which place I would be reviewing on the way back.
The salsa bar had a bunch of spicy sauces (most out of frame) and two mild ones. They both looked generic (top right, bottom left) by themselves so I mixed them together BECAUSE I'M JUST FULL OF IDEAS. |
Made a stop over at Del Taco a few days ago for some chicken soft tacos and got one of these to review. The one thing I've never really liked about bean and cheese burritos is having them as the main part of the meal. When it comes to mexican food, you need a lot of textures. Beans + tortilla is great with other ingredients but alone it is not enough. Especially when you'd need to eat a shit-ton of both to be satisfied.
Tl;dr - this burrito thrives because it is more of a complement to a meal rather than the focus. 49 cents for a soft taco-sized burrito with just the right amount of beans (which kill taco bell's beans in terms of taste), a little cheese, and a green sauce (which I've found out is a lot better than red sauce). |
