yes. the only pain you should experience are in the form of calluses and nothing more. your technique is very important or else it can lead to problems and injuries down the line.

you won't get stronger forearms from playing drums either and they too should not be hurting.

there's a chance you're toning muscle from it, but you won't go about building muscle to a noticeable degree.

also some people naturally have larger forearms than others.
