I haven't felt so much the NEED to write for my own sake much either.

I more so just know I have to write something, whether it turns out crap or alright or whatever.

And Vince, your song was a little more straight-forward then I remember them being. That's a good thing, though, at least in my opinion.

When you guys write, do you come up with the lyrics first and melody later, melody first and lyrics later, or do you even have a melody?

I cant help but have a melody in my head while I'm writing, and I think that really ends up hurting my writing. It's tough to fit what you want to say into a pre-conceived format.

But I might, since my bassist is suddenly good at everything and can write lyrics and do 3d animation. Like, overnight.

It was more straightforwardly written than my older material, but if you think you got it you probably didn't actually get it tbh. I'm still a pretentious *** at heart ;)

The true meaning is probably lost on me. But I was talking more about the simple four line verses and easy rhyme schemes. From what I remember, your writing is normally a little more "out there" than that.

I'm decent at writing music, but my lyrics just aren't great, at least when I try to pour my heart out. I wrote a song about war once (yes, cliche) and it turned out alright. I'm just bad at being emo, I guess.

Oh yes yes. The structure is far simpler than usual. I'll probably work back into my abcdb ebfgb etc rhyme schemes later on but I found the idea of a complex idea presented in simplicity quite fun.

I have a few sets of lyrics that im going to show my band (AKA my drummer lol). I have a general idea of what I want the music to be like. Im writing the music to one as we speak.

I just can't write lyrics :( I'm a good writer and I like writing but just not songs. I also can't compose songs, I can come up with riffs but I'm hopeless when I try and put it all together.

I have this problem too sometimes.

I have trouble putting together stuff for guitar..Anything else I can patch together fairly nicely.

speaking of which i'm getting new harmonicas pretty soon and i'm getting the hands-free headgear so i can play me some tom petty on harmonica while playing my guitar

I'd say i'm ok at writing lyrics, but i cannot compose a song (on guitar) to save my life.

Which kinda sucks 'cause i chose GCSE Music. :\

I write in multiple instruments too man.

I really couldn't ever limit myself to one instrument, because you can't always say what you want with a guitar, or with a piano, or with a violin, or bagpipes (:p:D) and so I really like being able to switch about and even write them all in together.
