I'm driving from here to California with my mom this summer. It's gonna be crazy.
I bet you'll drive on I-80. What parts of the Golden State are you visiting?

asdf 05-17-2006 04:02 PM

I'm going to Tennessee for bonnaroo with my family, my friend Jay, and my brother's girlfriend. My family isn't the family vacation type, but since my brother is off to college, and these shows are really a once and a lifetime deal, we made an exception. I'm excited.

I might go by myself or with a few friends to Chicago for World/Inferno and mischief brew. I'm determined to go. I'll stay with relatives or something. Anything for this show!

This summer will consist of Drawing, Painting, Making a tall bike, photography (and developing my own pictures), Bass playing (might be joining a ska band... for real this time), tie-dying for profit, and basically doing whatever I want. I think this is the last year I can just do whatever I want, and it wont matter. By next year, I will have to get a job, and be prepaired to move out and all that.

This summer better rock, or I'm going to kick someone's ***.

SantaDuJuan 05-17-2006 04:02 PM

Jazz band concert tonight!
Yeah!

I really tuned out in Jazz band rehearsal today.
I was thinking about if my order of Jinx shirts came in.

(they didn't)

Rise Me Up 05-17-2006 04:03 PM

I'm from Tennessee. Cool.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

Well, we're driving there because she's moving there, and I'm going for the ride. She's moving right into LA. Her boyfriend got a job there. I'm going to fly back after like a week there. I get her car for free, since this is a rental and she's leaving her car here.

Glitterati 05-17-2006 04:10 PM

I did that with school too, asdf. I just try to get all my work done in school, because if I have to do work at home, I find there's way too many distractions. Especially with beautiful weather like this.

And I too am going across the country this summer!
I'm eric
hi eric, my name's liam.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 04:10 PM

So Cal is gross.

I'm going to be there in June though. Even though no one asked where I'm going, I'm going to tell you anyway. I'm going to Disneyland, w00t. First time in over 10 years. Going down for 5 days in June with my grandparents and my cousins. First trip with the younger ones, the 7 hour car ride will be a bitch, but after that they'll be easy to avoid.

Liebensaft 05-17-2006 04:12 PM

So I've heard. I'd like to explore more. I also plan on moving here after high school and going to college at a UC campus.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 04:15 PM

Go to one in the Bay Area, it's better up here. You could try Berkeley, but you have to have really good grades to get in.

POINTLESS5448 05-17-2006 04:24 PM

im going to canada, and then im taking a road trip to north carolina.
its going to be crazy!

Skippy Prat 05-17-2006 04:28 PM

i just got back from north carolina, it sucked. i rather go to canada

coheneran 05-17-2006 04:28 PM

Hop a freight train! In some years, when I come to Armerica, I will go hoboing for a while. Everyone read the book Evasion from CrimethInc.

Flagjacket 05-17-2006 04:40 PM

I read the first part of Evasion. I liked it initially but after it sunk in I didn't think it was as great as I did before.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 04:42 PM

Hopping trains and all sounds really ****ing stupid to me.

Flagjacket 05-17-2006 04:44 PM

I'd like to live like that at least once.

coheneran 05-17-2006 04:56 PM
I read the first part of Evasion. I liked it initially but after it sunk in I didn't think it was as great as I did before.
Man, I was doing nothing but reading for three days. I was in love with that guy's life, it was so romantic.

That's exactly what I do. I stay at school and work in the library. They usually kick everyone out at 4, but since I'm seen working there every day, I can stay as long as a tutor is in the room. When they kick me out, I work in the cafeteria. I find that if I'm at school (even if there are distractions like people throwing basketballs at my table) I can actually focus and get nearly all of my work done. I plan on doing this all next year as well.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 05:06 PM

I just got internet deja vu.

coheneran 05-17-2006 05:14 PM

Deja vu makes me so hot Nick.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 05:17 PM

Culture Shock 05-17-2006 05:26 PM
Can anyone recommend good post punk?
Gang of Four
Husker Du
Minutemen
NoMeansNo
Wire

Most obvious ones

Oh, and 1905.
I have consistently mostly A's, but I'm not sure I want to go to Berkeley.
Berkeley is alright, but only go if you want to be either surronded by asians or hippies. Or asian hippies.

But the UC system rules, so good choice.

AIRIC 05-17-2006 05:41 PM

I get B's. I think I care sometimes.

Anyway two exciting things happened today but I'll post aboot htem later.

Thinking about college makes me sad. My brother got into the University of Michigan. I'm nowhere near as smart as him, and my grades definitely show that, as does my ACT score and soon SAT score. I just can't seem to find a college that suits me.

I have a 2.6 GPA
Want to stay in Michigan, but not too close to my hometown.
Want to continue to do art, but definitely not an art school.
Want to be in or near a big city.

The school I want does not exist for people like me.

Ohh...Sounds like community college for you then.

Of course not, any common village idiot can stencil, paint, draw, marble, build a bike, and all at advanced levels!

The community college I live near is very good for the culinary arts. Too bad I have no interest in cooking. And no interest in living at home.

coheneran 05-17-2006 05:58 PM

Start an art squat! There's one I went to in Paris, it's beautiful! And everyone there is nice and gives free weed and stuff.

Lets put in this way. I'm not book smart. I'm an arts and craft person. Just because I have interests and hobbies doesn't mean that I'm smart. It means I have interests and hobbies. Not only that, but none of them apply to school. No college gives a **** if I build a bike or tie-dye. All they see is my 2.6, my lack of involvement in school activities and sports, and my 23 ACT score. Not what a college is looking for.

It depresses me. :(

Then fuck the college system! You're letting someone else (a whole system in this case) set your goals and personal standards for you, and when you can't/don't want to live up to those standards, you're sad! Don't let that get you down:).

Something drives me to go to college, though. It's not exactly pressure from my parents either. They're pretty aware that I'm just not as smart or as driven as anyone else in my family.

I guess I just want to prove that I can make my life work, where my parents screwed up royally.

I don't want money, or a good job. I just want to be happy, and to prove that it's really not that difficult to get through college. And I don't think that going to college will stop me from tie-dying, stenciling, biking, or dabbling in art.

Whatever happens, happens. Before that, however, I have to go to college.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 06:07 PM

Go to college, it's amazing just to go to learn and enjoy yourself. Even if it's just a community college and you get stuck living at home, it will be worth it.

asdf 05-17-2006 06:10 PM
Go to college, it's amazing just to go to learn and enjoy yourself. Even if it's just a community college and you get stuck living at home, it will be worth it.
Indeed. I really want to further my knowledge of computer graphics, as well as psychology and things of that nature. There's so much to be learned! I'd be cheating myself if I didn't continue some sort of education.

Really, the only thing that makes me sad is it's proving to be difficult to find a college. Once I find some that suit me, I'll be so excited to go.

Brain Toad 05-17-2006 06:17 PM

Move to California and go to DVC :p
