I know what you mean

The whole album is awesome. Probally one of the best forty minutes in my life

MBS 10-08-2005 04:02 PM

Yeah, let's try to stray away from the drug talks.

Wish You Were Here is such an excellent album. My least favorite track is Welcome to the Machine, favorite is the title track.

I prefer Welcome to the Machine over Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here (bet you don't hear many people say that!). Shine On You Crazy Diamond is untouchable....it's probably one of the most brilliant songs I've ever heard.

I agree. Welcome to the Machine is one of the best Floyd songs there is. Its got a darker tone than most of the others

Definitely. Although I'm listening to Have a Cigar right now and god **** it's a great song...I can really never judge Pink Floyd songs because I always just like the one I'm listening to at the moment the most.

Danger Bird 10-08-2005 04:18 PM

Could somebody please upload the studio versions of Sysyphus: part's I-IV and The Grand Vizier's Garden Party- part's I-III from Ummagumma on www.yousendit.com and send it to BPMead007@hotmail.com?

I would be eternally grateful.

Yield 10-08-2005 04:19 PM

The thing I like about all of the albums is the thing where ten or five songs can blend together as one song

i hate it, i feel it drags the album down.
Wow, I don't even know what Mescaline is... I think I'll just leave it at "Drugs are bad, M'ky"

Come to think of it, am I the only one in this thread who doesn't do drugs? Before coming to this site I was all like "oh my god, someone smoked weed, they're the devil." Now I sort of understand that its not all that bad.
I'm very drug tolerant, but i never do them myself. I'm hesitant to even drink nowadays.

SRVS Greatest Fan 10-08-2005 05:54 PM

Hey there

I personally like Pink Floyd myself. If I were to name songs the list would probably go a little somthing like this: (I Play Guitar So i Rate solos)

The Wall Sucked *** to 80's ish... Except Comfortably Numb and Wall 2-3
Time
Money
Welcome to the Machine
Echoes
One of these Days

123'd. He sounded a little raspy, but after singing for his entire life lke he had, you can't blame him. Only a few of the pompus assholes of rock (*cough* McCartney *cough) manage to keep their voices perfectly through their entire life.

Kingofdudes 10-08-2005 06:27 PM

Roger does sound terrible. I heard he damaged his voice for good after throwing a fit over Pink Floyd going on after he left.

...ok. I don't like Waters but that's still kind of going too far with the hateness.

Kingofdudes 10-08-2005 06:31 PM

Hateness? What the hell are you talking about?

WelcomeToTheMachine 10-08-2005 06:34 PM

To me, welcome to the machine is untouchable
Hateness? What the hell are you talking about?
...I honestly don't know. It's late. I'm tired. I've been playing GTA: San Andreas all day, as well as eating Bojangle's fried chicken- twice. Let's just say I'm not in my right mind right now. But where did you hear that?

Kingofdudes 10-08-2005 06:38 PM

Some IMDB board my friend showed me.

Ok, I'll trust you... man, Bojangle's... great going down,... not so great after that...

Yeah, it's loading.

Fnnrqwin 10-08-2005 11:55 PM

Well, I'm a little lazy to search through the entire thread to see what's the topic at the moment, so I just decided to say that Fat Old Sun is my favorite Pink Floyd song. It's amazing how such a beautiful acoustic melody could have such a great distorted solo.

MBS 10-09-2005 12:17 AM

Yeah, Fat Old Sun is a great song, but Atom Heart Mother Suite still remains my favorite on that album.

Ishy 10-09-2005 12:28 AM

hey is Pink Floyd really going to have another reunion on november?

MBS 10-09-2005 12:36 AM
hey is Pink Floyd really going to have another reunion on november?
No. They only plan to reunite for charity, never for personal gain. Gilmour even gave his portion of CD sales to charity after they had a huge wave of people buying their CD's after Live 8. If there's a benefit concert in November, maybe, but for the most part, no they will never tour.

magicbus 10-09-2005 12:40 AM

The Live 8 dvd comes out on November 8th, that could be what you're thinking about.

Ishy 10-09-2005 12:49 AM

spoken lines
Brain Damage

This line basically refers to the fact that the man, who is the focus of Dark Side Of The Moon, is remembering his childhood, and is possibly slipping into senility, or another kind of infantilism.

This one is more of a stab at the politicians. The lunatic is in the hall, the lunatics are in the hall refers to the Prime Minister, and his parliament. The newspaper prints their faces with sometimes deriding or critical headlines, hence lowering their self opinion. The paper boy bringing more could refer to the fact that the lunacy never ends, or that the public gets tired of the self-importance of these elected officials.

Basically, this stanza, and the very last one, both have the same message. If you realise the state of the world, and see the terrible situation that we are all in, then you can leave it to go to the Dark Side of the Moon, i.e. death. The dam is basically the all the terrible things in the world, and when you realise they are there, if you don’t have a loved one to lean on, i.e. drag you from depression, you will probably have morbid thoughts.

This line is perhaps one of the pivotal lines of DSotM. This basically refers to the fact that the subject of the album, our protagonist, is not actually insane. Or, in other words, he doesn’t believe he is sane, he believes that another influence (the outside world) is making him act strangely. The outside world, however, doesn’t care, so they simply cut and mould the person into a more “sane” human being.

Again, the realisation that society isn’t a pretty place drives you to the edge. If you have no one to talk to, and your expectations of the world don’t match reality, you might as well escape.

If anyone knows what the spoken part is, I will gladly review that. This is my personal opinion, so feel free to discuss any deviations from what the song is meant to mean...

Eclipse to come. :)
some of the things you said about the song i disagree, but who cares heres the spoken lines in the song

"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvellous! HaHaHa!"

Fnnrqwin 10-09-2005 01:02 AM

They're being inducted into the UK Rock Hall, but they haven't stated if they're going to perform...

Its all gravys 10-09-2005 01:32 AM

holy **** i'm listening to animals... such a cool album and dogs is a meeeeeaaaaan song!

Yield 10-09-2005 08:17 AM

I'm gonna have to buy the Live 8 dvd when it comes out, and I'll probally just listen to The Who, Green Day, and Pink Floyd.

DeusExMachina 10-09-2005 08:27 AM

Howdy thread.

Waters' voice sucks. Get over it. You can explain it away by saying "oh, well he's old and sung for his entire life," and that may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that his voice sucks.

I'd love it if Pink Floyd did even one more show. I'd try very hard to find a way to get there.

Yield 10-09-2005 08:45 AM

That would be awesome if they did one last show

Wouldn't it be awesome if they toured and gave all the proceeds to charity? Then I wouldn't feel bad shelling out whatever exorbant price good seats would cost.

The whole album is so weird. I heard part of Alans Psychodelic Breakfest the other day at my friends house, and I was like "wow..."
