The song BWP, man if they just cut it by 3 or 4 minutes it could end up to be one of my all time favs. The ending (that acoustic part) does virtually nothing for me. But yeah that first Edge Of Sanity like acoustic part just rules.
MAYH is easily Opeth's darkest album. I'll listen to BWP, Still Life, Deliverance (thanks my trusty IPOD) as I nod off to sleep, and most times the music can help me drift off to sleep. When I put MAYH on this whole different darkness comes over me. It's by no means an easy listen.
I agree, I think it's very hard to listen to though when I do it's amazing. |
Signed Opeth DVD is here! Pic inside
Well I finally got my dvd. Now I'm trying to ident the signatures. I'm pretty sure the one in the bottom right is Per Wiberg's. Anyone know what they other guys' look like? Can you help me decipher this? Here's a pic:

I sure can't decipher those. Take it to the official Opeth thread though.

All of Opeth's albums have an either autumn or winter vibe for me. |
Kewl Avatar, Jude.
Anyhow, I finally have my hands on my very own copy of Lamentations!!! omgomgomgomgomg Problem is I have no DVD player to play it with lol. The reason fo it: My parents told me "Why do you want a DVD player if you have no DVD's to play?" Valid excuse, but now I have a better one to have a DVD player. so this post was basically about my newest acquisition. :D:D:D |
Upper Right: Seems like "mikael" to me. Go figure.
Lopez' signatures are the ones on the left, but I can't tell which one's whose. |
Bottom left is Mikeal, I'm wearing a signed shirt from him right now.
I can get the others for you tomorrow, I have a signed ticket upstairs. |
I'm just merging this with the Opeth thread, guys.

Dulsay!
Don't triggers just make the drums sound more even or something? That's what I heard anyway
Triggers essentially detect when the drum has been hit and output a pre-recorded sound...kinda like electronic drums except that you hit real drums. They are useful for providing more audible bass notes at high speeds and are commonly used on bass drums for extreme metal acts. What this means is that, regardless of how hard or soft you hit the drum, it will always produce the exact same sound over the PA. |
Found this interview earlier with Peter...the guy's great!
http://www.musicomh.com/interviews/opeth_0905.htm My favorite quote: "like I said, we are just regular guys, but if people want to think we're evil, then that's cool!" |
Awesome interview, one thing I've noticed about Opeth in their interviews is how they are always honest, they don't always bag out their label just for making a video or any other publicity.
But really, I wish they did get the band's approval for the video. I watched it and thought "oh lord, SELL OUTS!" but now I know the band had no control, it's all good. It's a godawful video, don't you think? Oh, and what "image" do you guys get from Ghost Reveries? I always get this whole gothic, haunted mansion thing going on with horrible occult things going on inside. But The Grand Conjuration is like being in a cathedral with that epic riff. |
finally got my signed lamentations dvd. Can hardly make out the names though.
Can anyone help me out? Here's the pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/stefanreindl/c2417ecb.jpg |
No clue, their sigs are too siggeriffic.
|
GR doesn't do so much for me image-wise. For some reason MAYH, Deliverance and GR all don't really do that. Whereas Orchid, Morningrise and Damnation do it somewhat and SL and BWP do it a LOT. I'm not sure what about the albums does that or doesn't.
Edit: About my avatar...what does everyone think it's supposed to be? For that matter, what's up with the whole Deliverance cover? A midget on a pillow? wtf? |
I always though the thing on the Deliverance cover was a puppet. For me, pretty much every Opeth album does something for me image-wise. Still Life and GR especially.

Martin Lopez? The second part looks kinda like an L...
I should pick up Lamentations eventually...maybe as a Christmas present. :D |
The only reason i saw Lamentations was because my bros friend shared it to him and i watched it with my bro...I dont realy think i was a fan of them then but i still liked it...And i saw music differently back then then i do now... But I think that was what kind of got me to listen to some Opeth. I would love to listen to it now...

im pretty sure it ends in an L |
Martin Lopez? The second part looks kinda like an L...
I should pick up Lamentations eventually...maybe as a Christmas present. :D
It's a rather cheap DVD, compared to other DVD's out there. it's like, 11 dolars or something. |
15 at Tower, compared to 20 for their other DVDs.
I like the setlist on it too... |
Yeah, I love that. And then the riff that closes it out is so beautiful
Yeah it is, it's so hard to play, I can't get it to sound right with my setup. It's definately a great song to start out a legendary album. You can see a huge morph in their style on it when compared to their 2 previous albums, Orchid and Morningrise. The album just proves Mikael is capable of many things, being he wrote almost everything on that album except drums. He even played bass. I just can't get enough of My Arms, Your Hearse...whenever I listen to it, it brings back some good memories. :) |
Look who else got a new avatar.
/sexy hero pose |
God, your hero poses rule.
It's still not as gay as mine. |
My avatar >>> yours's
|
Maybe, but it's not as homo-erotic.
|
Look who else got a new avatar.
/sexy hero pose
I recognize that...where's it from? |
My avatar >>> yours's
Lies!! I need a bigger avatar. Stupid 70x70 limit. :upset:
I recognize that...where's it from?
Magic: the Gathering card called Reya Dawnbringer. The art for those cards is so freakin' awesome. |
Ah, that's right. It also reminds me of Neverwinter Nights. I never played Magic, but Neverwinter Nights is a pretty awesome game.
|
Magic is for nerds, not ( )p37l-l 1337.

I used to play Magic back in the day but now the only people that play it are freaks and goths. I have some old cards that are way cooler than that one. My old Lord of the Pit from 4th edition, for example. I even have some Revised edition cards. Bet you don't even know what those are. I haven't touched my cards in forever though. I'm sure they're worth buckets of money. |
I even have some Revised edition cards. Bet you don't even know what those are.
I haven't touched my cards in forever though. I'm sure they're worth buckets of money.
I'd bet I know far more about the game than thou. Also, there's a lot of cards that aren't worth diddly now, especially ones from Revised. |
wow i love how all the real conversation in this forum gets lost in all the rubbish.
|
It happens way too much. Back to Opeth.
I'll be seeing them in less than 24 hours :D. |
Have fun, man. :chug: I'm catching Nevermore on monday to make up for the fact that they weren't at the show....to be perfectly honest, I prefer it this way, as this means that I get more Nevermore, plus I also got Pelican. No Into Eternity, though. :(
|
I'd love for Opeth to tour over here.
|
wow i love how all the real conversation in this forum gets lost in all the rubbish.
We need breaks in the conversation otherwise it's just CreepingDeth: So................................what's everyone's favorite Still Life song? Jude: Face of Melinda. Darkness of Greed: The Moor. Godhead's Lament is teh ghey CreepingDeth: Godhead's Lament fag Flynn: Everything after Orchid is a sellout And repeat ad nauseum. |
 It's a shame that's mostly true. Except I don't ask the questions here.
