chippy...how do you suggest i handle the tom problem? noise gates, or something else?
not using tom mics.

Panopticon 02-20-2008 08:08 PM

yeah...it's the toms vibrating when i hit something.

Berk 02-20-2008 08:08 PM

tape

Panopticon 02-20-2008 08:11 PM

nothx cuz then they sound like crap...idk i was thinking of getting pins, but i dunno if that would fix anything.

Panopticon 02-20-2008 08:12 PM
not using tom mics.
ok...is there any other way?

Chippy569 02-20-2008 08:13 PM
not using tom mics.
seriously, they're more problems than they're worth.
especially with how many toms you have. there's soooo many phase issues with all those tom mics, i don't even want to think about it.

use your overheads.

Panopticon 02-20-2008 08:18 PM

hmm...money well wasted...

Chippy569 02-20-2008 08:19 PM

!!!

Chippy569 02-20-2008 08:24 PM

you could try isolating each drum by putting each drum and maybe each cymbal (but at least every drum separate plus the cymbals not on the same stands as the drums) isolated to keep a lot of the direct vibration, that'd help.

ConnectiveTissue 02-20-2008 08:25 PM

I used to get the same problem with snare buzz and resonance etc.

The highest tom seems to be the worst, most of the issue seems to be tuning, I mean they sound good to my ears, but that's just me.

thing is, most of the vibrations are coming from the floor toms, which are isolated. I get almost nothing from my rack toms.

TimJim 02-20-2008 08:31 PM

is bored

i'd like more of an actual ending, but that was pretty nice

berk gettin' it

Seafroggys 02-20-2008 10:15 PM

I think tom mics are worth it, you just have to be a good engineer to use them.

I know I would love having them. But since I get such a great sound just with my overheads, I would barely have the faders up on the tom mics anyway.

TTTSNB 02-20-2008 10:50 PM

Who saw the lunar eclipse tonight?

Win A Rabbit 02-20-2008 10:53 PM

i watched it for the most part.

i was reading at the kitchen table, and every couple minutes i'd look up to see it.

was nice.

TTTSNB 02-20-2008 10:56 PM

Yeah definitely. A friend of mine and I watched it towards it's zenith for several minutes, it was quite awesome.

Sunshine 02-20-2008 10:56 PM

I saw part of it, while hurrying from my nightclass to the dorms 'cause I was cold as a mofo.

So right now my boyfriend's trying to hack into this mystery person's computer using my MSN because if he doesn't, my life will be basically destroyed.
Here's to hoping, huh?

TTTSNB 02-20-2008 10:57 PM

What the hell are they trying to do? You don't need to give specifics.

Seafroggys 02-20-2008 11:01 PM

Your life is destroyed when someone breaks into your bank account or get your SSN, or your house is wiped out by an act of god and you've lost everything.

Sunshine 02-20-2008 11:29 PM

My life is destroyed when someone's blackmailing me with pictures meant for my boyfriend alone, and saying that if I don't send more he'll send them all out.

Static 02-20-2008 11:30 PM

Send them to me.

Sunshine 02-20-2008 11:32 PM

I don't keep copies of the pictures.

Static 02-20-2008 11:35 PM

Doesn't matter, I already own them.
