I love Individual Thought Patterns, It's a legendary album, so is The Sound Of Perseverance...but the drums, guitars and vocals on Human make it so lethal, ya know? I love Human. On the subject of Opeth, have you tried playing that segment from By The Pain I See In Others backwards yet? When you do, listen to The Master's Apprentices right after...trust me :thumb: |
Finally, somebody other than me who likes this song. Def one of my top 5. :thumb:
Any ways, I got Ghost Reveries about 2 weeks ago. I must say im VERY disappointed. However, it is growing on me like it seems to be with a lot of people who didnt like it at first. But still, to me its one of their weakest albums, easily. The saving graces are the slow/clean sections mostly attributed to Per's magnificent keyboards and Mikael's voice (which is in top form on this disc), plus the guitarists didnt slack on their acoustic lines either. HOWEVER, the 'heavy' riffs are pure crap (with the exception of 'Ghost of Perdition' and 'the Grand Conjuration). There evilness seems to be gone and now are replaced with a lot of generic riffs. Tsk tsk tsk Mike, getting lazy are we? Any ways i hope they will stop slacking off on their heavy parts and for the next album remember that part of what makes them such a great band is the balance of good clean parts AND heavy parts. Any one else here agree?
The heavy riffs may have been taken back a bit, but this is probably Lopez' best performance, without a doubt Mendez' best performance, and Mikael's best vocal performance. Not counting the added keyboards which again, have their fair share of spotlight. This time some of focus was shifted towards other instruments. The songs on this album are VERY WELL structured. You can listen to how well Mikael's vocals are harmonized with the guitars. They work as an essential background to attribute the vocals alot more. That kind of stuff takes alot of time to get down correctly, contrary to much belief that they rushed this album. |
If only Stephen Wilson helped with Ghost Reveries... it's amazing on its own without his excellent songwriting help, imagine with it!

Who produced GR? |
Jens Bogren produced it, I think.

Sadly, you can kiss that thought goodbye, Opeth now belong to Roadrunner. |

I was so against them going to RR. |

Me too, I dislike the label for reasons I do not wish to talk about. They should of stayed where they were... :upset: |
Has ANYONE listened to the end segment of By The Pain I See In Others in reverse yet?! The part when Mikael is singing backwards? Try it and elaborate!
I love The Master's Apprentices so much more now! :D ''Soothing trance...'' |
Just wondering, did anyone in here ever cover an Opeth song for that contest?
|
Just to be sure we're on the same page, you know I'm talking about Martin Lopez, right? Ex-Drummer for Amon Amarth. His work can be heard on the albums My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and ****ation, as well as Opeth's last release, Ghost Reveries of 2005.
Yes, I know who you meant. He can't even touch Portnoy. |
Yes, I know who you meant. He can't even touch Portnoy.
Really? I've heard a lot of both and I think Lopez is far more versatile. But if you like his style, I understand :thumb: It's all good |
Yes, I know who you meant. He can't even touch Portnoy.
Few drummers can, but that doesn't mean he isn't still a really good drummer. |
Few drummers can, but that doesn't mean he isn't still a really good drummer.
I know that, i'm such saying that Portnoy is much better, technically speaking. |
Few drummers can, but that doesn't mean he isn't still a really good drummer.
They're both good. For the type of music I listen to, Sean Reinert schools them both, but everyone has their own taste/judgement. Portnoy is godly though. |

Wreath is track 1 from Deliverance. ya know...the Album that came out in 2002 (Nov 12th to be exact) . Do you even listen to Opeth? |
Oh ****, lmao. For some reason I though you said Amen Corner... don't ask, I've been sick and disoriented all week.
|
hey Flynn, I think i DID reverse the end of that song on Deliverance, it was a while ago though. You're right it was pretty kool ill have to do it again soon. Also i only heard one song from Human, Suicide Machine, and its awesome. Have you heard Paul and Sean's new band, Aeon Spoke? Really beautiful stuff if you like soft music.
Any ways, i would definetely say that Portnoy would smoke Lopez technically, but i personally enjoy Lopez's style. For one he doesnt look like a douche when he plays drums, and for two he has this really sweet latin groove to his playing thats hard to match. But thats just me. Portnoy is still awesome though. Oh yeah, if you want to hear REAL evil riffs, listen to Godhead's Lament, Deliverance, Leper Affinity, and Wreath to name a few, thats what Opeth is really about. Nothing off of GR can light a candle to any of those songs. |
I reversed BTPISIO as well, and it's really creepy.

Yeah I should of said the entire album of Deliverance  I just love Karma though...the intro is to fu***ng hard, especially since the riff is border line jazz morphed into distortion. Karma is a lethal song...I can't get enough of it. |

I don't buy it, sorry. You need to open your eyes and learn how to read, or get familiar with Opeth Discography. Sorry for the double post. ''Take medication for that anger problem then you will realize you have always been worthless not because of your anger - because you're a nobody'' |
