Not true. A lot of people who campaign for animal rights and/or are vegans/vegetarians believe that their beliefs go hand in hand with the belief that animal life is just as important as human life - their words not mine. The simple fact that lots of people donate to animal charities before even thinking of donating to charities which are struggling against poverty and the loss of human life implies that people do value animal life equal to or as much as human life, and as experience has shown me, many of whom (illogical as it may be) follow vegan/vegetarian lifestyles as an (in)direct result.

This may be so, but there's nothing in the definition of vegetarian or vegan that says animal life has to be valued equally to human life, and the fact that people who value animal life equally are vegan or vegetarian doesn't change the definition.

There's a debate here in Australia right now about live cattle exports to Indonesia - a lot of people want to restrict exports to Indonesia because of the inhumane way they're killed, whether it be because their technology is not up to date or simply because they do it a certain way to fulfil religious beliefs. These people campaigning for the restrictions, most of whom I've discovered happen to be vegetarians/vegans, fail to realise that the reason Indonesia gets live animals rather than frozen meat is because a) it has to be halal and b) many Indonesians do not have fridges and can only have meat if it's bought fresh from the market.

This is not to say all vegetarians/vegans are retards - I go on and off vegetarian bouts regularly and I'm doing a vegetarian stint again at the moment, but I do it for personal reasons, many others take the morality of it to an absurd level. I remember in one of my classes one guy argued with me when I made an implication that a chicken's life is worth less than a human's - I wasn't surprised a few minutes later when he declared he was a devout vegetarian.
