Thats the jist of it. Its all a matter of opinion whether or not classic rock includes hair metal and 80's bands. I don't think it does, but opinions again.
well, 80s is classic music, as in good. |
You know that's not true. The good music in the '80's was rare.
Edit: Med, I'm gonna try. Haha. I'm only on the second one now. 'Tis The Season To Be Jelly by Frank Zappa. |
I don't see how anything from before 1980 can be called classic rock
Am I reading this wrong or does it say that nothing from before '80 is classic rock? |

Rare. And I would call approximately 1 or 2 of those bands classic rock. |
Schyma - I can't believe all of that happened and your parents are mad because of the weed, crazy
It must be hard being a hippie in Texas Classic Rock is defined in influences to a point, I'd say. For example, if you had a band that was solely inspired by the San Francisco scene in the late 60's, but was founded in 1998, I would still call them Classic Rock. But there again, that's the argument between Classic Rock as a genre as opposed to an era EDIT: 1966 Revolver FTW |

Alright, the Allman's finally kicked in. I love this stuff. Any recommendations as to next albums to listen to? Both studio and live.

1 Bruce Springsteen 30 2 Tea Leaf Green 26 3 The Beatles 17 4 Cream 15 5 Ancient Grease 11 6 A Passing Fancy 9 7 Aerosmith 8 8 Albert King 7 9 Grateful Dead 6 10 Pink Floyd 5 Another big week for the Boss. And Tea Leaf Green really, really owns. Everyone in here should check them out. I think they might be my favorite modern jamband. Yeah I just discovered them last week, but I've downloaded a bunch of their shows off archive and saw them live. Awesome stuff. Bus, get At Filmore East next and then Brothers and Sisters. Hitttin' the Note is very good too. And get a bunch of live bootleg stuff. |

It's about god damn time, man. Do you already have At Fillmore East? If not, get that. Really, their first 5 albums are all good (s/t, Idlewild South, Fillmore East, EaP, B&S.) Also look for An Evening With The Allman Brothers Band: 2nd Set, it has a killer acoustic version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. |
1. Grateful Dead 309
2. Mississippi John Hurt 12 3. Mitch Hedberg 10 4. Paul McCartney 8 5. Curtis Mayfield 7 6. John Mayer Trio 3 7. Otis Rush 2 7. The Who 2 9. Jimmy Cliff 1 9. New Lost City Ramblers Dead back on top... What's new? |
1 Neil Young 34
2 Barenaked Ladies 14 3 Five for Fighting 12 3 George Harrison 12 5 Radiohead 9 5 The Who 9 7 Johnny Cash 5 8 Pink Floyd 3 8 Trans-Siberian Orchestra 3 10 Guns N' Roses 2 Attack of the alternative bands! Five For Fighting is pretty cool, I like them, although I only have American Town. Barenaked Ladies: Most of the listens probably came from me listening to their live album, I forgot what it was called. The majority of my Young probably comes from when I listed to just him on shuffle. I was in a Neil mood. :) I've been digging Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere lately, it's got such a good groove. |
Anybody have Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes?
I'm looking for more funk. |
How pissed is your Dad with you, Schyma? Unlucky on getting caught though. :-/
Well let's put it this way...when he found out I failed the drug test he gave me this huge lecture about some various things but nothing really new, he ended it by telling me he wants to "cut the arms off your friends" since then he hasn't said a word to me.
I've always thought good of the guitar playing for Ash Ra Tempel but now that give it several good complete listens, I can conclude that Manuel Gottsching is one of the greatest psychedelic guitar players I've heard. A German Hendrix possibly? I can actually settle with that title. If anyone's curious give "Amboss" by Ash Ra Tempel a listen. |
I'm pretty sure my dad still smokes TBH.
I've seen his piece, but it could've been someone else's. I doubt it. |
Dude. That was so long ago. Haha.

Yeah, in the post he quoted you were still using all lowercase letters. Jesus Christ Plath, check up on the times. |

I don't think he stopped using all lowercase that long ago. This just in: Rubber Soul is my new favorite Beatles album. Who's with me? |

There are some songs on Revolver that I skip. I like everything on Rubber Soul. However, the high points on Revolver may be higher than those on Rubber Soul, but the low points are lower. EDIT: Jac, can you upload the last 5 tracks on Damaged, they were corrupted. Thanks. |
but the low points are lower.
If you mean Yellow Submarine, I completely agree. |
but they all live in a yellow submarine... :(
Eh, you're right. I hate that song too. |

Anyone else here like rolling stones? I never hear any of you guys talk about them. (older stuff, obviously........not new zombie material)
NP- Led Zeppelin- In Through The Out Door- In The Evening |
Discuss how awesome it is that my friend learned to play a bunch of Janis Joplin songs from her original guitarist for this play he was in.
