Has anyone else noticed that all the motorbike safety adverts are aimed at car drivers? Almost every single motorcyclist I see is riding like a complete tool, jumping lights, overtaking on narrow roads, nipping in between tiny gaps in traffic, doing horrendous speeds, and yet it's all apparently the fault of car drivers. Pisses me right off. Instead of telling us to stop and take longer to look for bikes, hiw about telling bikers to just stop being cunts?
where to start on this one...

yes indeed, a lot of these power-ranger clad bikers are tossers, esp when there's a group of them out and there's no wonder there's so many fatalities. i'm no lover of these bikers on their "sports" bikes. just penis extensions if you ask me.

however, i ride 2 wheels myself, a much more sedate 1964 Lambrettta and a 2003 vespa, and you wouldn't believe some of the cunts who drive on 4 wheels. there's been many a time when someone has either deliberately or accidentally tried to force me off the road and many a time i've swung a kick at the side of a car or gesticulated at a nobhead behind a wheel. seriously, some folks drive without even engaging brain.

if you ride like a tosser you will eventually be a red smear on the road. but there's a lot of us who don't and you take your life in car drivers' hands every time you go out so, for those of us, please heed the ads!!

spirit 10-13-2010 06:27 AM

To further that point, even if you're in the right, you're also in a car. Car beats bike.

Furthermore, as a pedestrian I've been nearly hit a couple of times by drivers who just didn't bother indicating when turning. Seriously, where the fuck did these people do their test?

In short, bikers are often stupid on the road, but the car drivers I've seen are much, much worse.

Also, now I think about it, for all the bikers who just take themselves out, y'know go too fast into a corner and wrap themselves round a tree, there's not much point in doing adverts, because there's no helping the clinically stupid. However, for those poor bastards who come across one of the numerous crappy car drivers, these ads may very well make a difference. Also, like I said, car beats bike. When was the last time you heard of a bike crashing into a car and killing the occupants of the car?

The_Mop 10-13-2010 06:39 AM

Blue_moon- didnt even know satch had come out with a new album until seeing your 'digging'... is the new one any improvement on his last few? Cant say I've been truly impressed with anything since Crystal Planet, with that fuckin' 'I Just Wanna Rock' bullshit just plain takng the piss...

Papa Shank 10-13-2010 06:42 AM

I could talk all day about bikers (having been one, RIP ZRX1200R :() but frankly it's a debate that won't stop. Who's wrong? Who's right? Were the Power Rangers really given their colours to represent their race? Who the fuck really knows.

guitarbaz 10-13-2010 06:50 AM

hey there's a lot of good bikers out there, as usual it's the minority who behave like twats tho. they're usually the ones whose lives are marked by a bunch of dried out flowers gaffer taped to a tree.

i'm just happy riding something that only does 60mph. as one of my scoot mates likes to say, there's no point in going fast as no one can see you looking cool. his words, not mine.

The_Mop 10-13-2010 07:09 AM

I'd love to have a go at driving a motorbike, just not on public roads.

Blue_Moon 10-13-2010 09:42 AM

having a bike in this sountry if just bloody dangerous, too many bad drivers, its just not save and the weathers usually ridiculous

over in vietnam, its cool to do it 8)

Always fun times when your boss sends you (really the whole group I work in) an e-mail asking when we'll be available from today until the 9th of Nov. outside of our normal hours. Damn deadline is a coming.

superjoe 10-13-2010 05:44 PM

cigarette preference? go!

I ride a motorcycle myself and I am not a douche when I drive. Sometimes you do come across people who will deliberately be an asshole to you on the road, but I do/used to live in a pretty bike conscious place. Shit's still dangerous as fuck though, because the cars are much more dangerous than any hazard you can create yourself if you are experienced.

Cigs: Kamel (yes K) reds are great but hard to come by, I enjoy those. I really don't smoke much though, so I don't know if I could ever smoke cigs that strong every day. Then again, nothing beats the cigs I roll myself with either samuel gawith full virginia flake, or mclelland red.

Blue_Moon 10-13-2010 09:21 PM

theres too many crap drivers here and not enough bikes, id love a bike though, but pretty much not practical in this country whatsoever

this bandcamp site is pretty nifty

I tired a Kamel the other night at the pub. Apparently they just restarted making them in the US. Camel lights for me.

You think a motorcycle is scary? Try riding a bicycle in traffic, in a town that has an obsession with over sized pick up trucks and very general hatred towards ANYONE on a bicycle.

Junooni 10-13-2010 09:27 PM

marlboro reds, lights, 27s, special blends, newports, camel turkish gold, whatever i'm not too picky.

was just about to close a deal on a new civic tonight when the gm of the store decided not to honor the interest rate that they promised me, so i said fuck you and left. killed the mood for the night.

this new south park episode better be fucking amazing, cause that's all im lookin forward to tonight.

marlboro lights are pretty fucking gross. the 27's are vurry nice though, second choice if I'm not resorting to cheap-o cigs at the end of the week.

include quantity too. im up to between 3/4-2 packs a day, usually just 1 though. Depends on length of drinking that day.

Blue_Moon 10-13-2010 10:51 PM

i like those cigs that get made on the spot with the tobacco stuff

Junooni 10-13-2010 11:05 PM

sittin at almost a pack a day right now

AG 10-14-2010 12:52 AM

Smokers are jokers.

Blue_Moon 10-14-2010 01:07 AM

i actually thought about taking it up

but if you wana buy a pack of 20cigs here it will cost you about $11 american dollars a pack

then get some $5 a gallon petrol

guitarbaz 10-14-2010 01:30 AM

we smoke fags over here. take that how you will.

that's the truth right there.

Sad But True 10-14-2010 04:51 AM

Don't get me wrong boys, I've known a couple of really sensible bikers, and by god I've seen some terible car drivers; I've actually contemplated making a sign to put in my window every time some stupid bastard forgets where their indicators are. It seriously, seriously annoys me. I've taken it upon myself to make sure that these imbeciles know exactly how I feel by sarcastically clapping when when I pass them and the likes.

Papa Shank 10-14-2010 04:59 AM

The problem with cars is that they are not expecting to come across bikers and so they don't typically look or listen for them when making a manoeuvre. Frankly, the ball is in our (bikers) court gentlemen, we're the ones taking the risk and we know it so the burden is on us to look out for them rather than them looking out for us.

I don't know the statistics either but a lot of incidents are surely down to lack of experience (or rather your good weather riders) which typically ends in them misjudging the road and going down. Cars might be a big danger, but we know it, it's the unknown danger like misjudgement that typically leaves us clenching our arseholes tight enough to get diamond from coal.

In the end, man the fuck up and accept that other road users think you're scum and treat you like shit. Consider it character building.

EDIT- I just want to add, I used to get pissed off when I would see a biker without any gear on but now I just think to myself "If he doesn't want to have hands or feet or skin on his arse hole then that's his choice". Consider it a macro-scale version of natural selection if you will.

guitarbaz 10-14-2010 05:00 AM

i feel your pain.

especially on roundabouts where these folks just sail round with no indication at all. i actually pull out in front of them to give them a shock. arseholes.

even more, these cocks who drive round with their foglights on when it's not foggy. they get it as well.

i think i need some anger management.
i think i need some anger management.
Can I be your anger manager?

guitarbaz 10-14-2010 05:10 AM

shanks, i'm on edge every time i go out on me scoot, to the point that i'm probably overly aggressive towards car drivers who pose even the merest of risk to my well being.

that said i still managed to come off it about 6 months ago, nice patch of oil at a roundabout. it hurt. i blamed the excessive amount of weigh on the back, i.e. the girlfriend.

If you had a girl that made you feel the same you'd probably have dumped the girl by now ay? Personally, I wouldn't go on the road with a small engined bike/scooter, it just makes something that is dangerous in the first place feel uncontrollable so I got sympathy for you Baz.
or anger coach perhaps, as in "come on you pussy you're not being angry enough"?
Exactly my thinking my good lad :smoke:

guitarbaz 10-14-2010 05:22 AM

ha ha, i was on my tuned 210 vespa at the time i'll have you know. although a 90mph vespa is one of the scariest things you'll ever ride. (other than a fat dominatrix with a taste for rectal fist action).

Sad But True 10-14-2010 05:24 AM

I want one of those LED scrollers in my back window saying "indicators, asshole. Use them." Then I'll do Baz's trick and deliberately pull out in front of them.

Ahh, you're one of those hooligans haha. Even so, there is nothing quite like having the physical presence of a bike with a 1164cc engine poking out of each side of the bike :smoke:

what did you think i was riding, one of those little poxy twist and go things as ridden by chavs who can't afford a corsa? :p

yeah i'm just a 60's throwback. got a lambretta as well which i prefer tbh.

Yep, but my old car looked like this:

Near enough the exact same colours except I painted my roof and the grill surround between the headlamps white

So it's ok.

guitarbaz 10-14-2010 05:57 AM

nice classic motor that.

Sad But True 10-14-2010 06:02 AM

Yeah, I miss that unreliable bastard. It was built when radio was the devil's work so the only things to do while driving were sing to myself or shout at other drivers. I did option 2 a lot. I think it played a big part in me being a pretty good driver now, because going from that to a modern motor is like putting everything on easy mode. I once drive my old Triumph with my left hand only because my right hand was holding the driver's door shut which would swing open everytime I turned left, in a car that veered left when you took your hands off the wheel, didn't go into 1st while moving due to no synchromesh and didn't like second that much, and would also cut out if your revs dropped below 1500 so you had to dump the clutch and coast to any stop then bring your clutch up a bit just to drop the revs down to a non-ridiculous level. By the time I sold it I was doing most of these things on auto pilot, so a little VW Polo was like a pedal car in comparison.

guitarbaz 10-14-2010 06:16 AM

see on a new car they'd all be faults.

on an old car they become "character"
