Stream of Conciousness on Budokan is mindblowing.
Well, "bashing" is unavoidable when taste is subjective. :) I own "Awake", which has some good riffs in it, and I`ve borrowed "Images and Words", "Scenes from a memory", I copied "Six Degrees.." (also some cool moments), borrowed "Train..." and "Octavarium", and I`ve seen "Budokan"- and "Scenes..."-DVD, and I still didn`t find anything more I liked. At least I gave them a serious try, as opposed to alot of people slagging of black/speed/death-metal cause all they hear is "noise". As for listening to prog, I`d still rather go for Spiral Arcitect or Pagans Mind.

And I still think LaBrie sounds too nice and Iron Maiden-sk (not my cup of tea), and too constrained almost all the time. ....on the other hand, I don`t know what other singer who could be in Dream Theater. It couldn`t be a showman, thats for sure, it would ruin the balance.
That's cool, I appreciate that you have actually listened to them and decided you don't like them rather than being an ignoramus about it. I just wanted to point that their albums are vastly different and that (whether you like his vocal style or not), Labrie is very talented.

Would it be too much to ask for you to send me a song or two by Spiral Architect or Pagan's Mind? I've been wanting to check them out but can't find any of their stuff anywhere.

I can send you some Spiral Architect tomorrow.

Chu 04-27-2006 07:18 PM

I have Dream Theater's Master of Puppets performance (Like one mp3.. 58mb..), but also they're cover of Orion (Plus a little thing they do after the song), which is about 10.8mb.

fair enough. respek for you my friend. respek.
personally, i don't like pagan's mind at all. but there we go, eh?

my favorite DT lick to play at the moment is either the ending solo in 8vm, "never enough" or the home licks :] it's also MP's daughter's (melody) favorite song. he said so on the commmentary for metropolis 2000 DVD

i really can't seem to enjoy that song that much :\
disappear taht comes right after it is much more impressive to me.

Jev 04-28-2006 01:04 AM

SOC is second to Disappear as my favourite on LATB.
My friend saw the SOC solo and was like

ghettoeddo 04-28-2006 01:22 AM

haha yea it's crazy fast. a little sloppy live though. but...well they aren't machines.

i still prefer solos that seem to be more thought-out than shred at the speed of light.
wont be back for awhile, prom comin up :] peace

Jev 04-28-2006 02:26 AM

I like it live. I think it sounds better.

Did you get some Spiral A.? Unfortunatley, I don`t possess my Pagans Mind-cd`s at the moment, they`re cardboardboxes being transported to my current appartement, but I still have Spiral A. on my computer, so I can send you a song or two.

Basically, I HAD to check DT out `cause of my drummer`s constant raving about them, but we belong in different genres. He`s more Iron Maiden, Trivium, Stratovarius...and I`m more into Cannibal Corpse, Satyricon, Marduk, Bolt Thrower etc., which he can`t stand. But I appreciate the drum-techniques he aquires by listening to Portnoy. Oh, and we came to an agreement that we can meet over Opeth. Be both like them. :chug:
What radio stations this?
It sounds awesome.
Sorry for the extremely late reply but better than no reply at all (I don't visit this place often, as you can tell from my post count).

Yeh, I heard it on triple RRR 102.7 (this is Australian radio, of course, but maybe you can hear it on the internet). Probably a one off though.

And yeah, very, very, very odd to hear it on radio.

Prince of Darkness 04-28-2006 08:10 AM

I just bought ToT.

After watching Budokan I knew I had to do it.
My DT collection is growing...If got Awake, ToT, Octavarium and 2 dvd's...

But I have all the albums mp3's, but I'm buying all the originals.

Exactly, Peter Gabriel Genesis is great, Collins era is awful.

Nah, haven't gotten it yet. I'd much appreciate it if you could send some to bjwumr at gmail dot com

Charmand G 04-28-2006 08:17 PM

Heya! I`ve just posted you two songs. Hope you`ll enjoy them. Maybe not the two best, but it was those who fitted one mail.

Cheers!:chug:

Shattered_Future 04-28-2006 08:46 PM

I just got a Genesis album my friend converted for me...Trespass, it's called.

I gotta absorb it later...I haven't actually heard any Genesis, but I remember my dad listening to Peter Gabriel on long car rides. Rather messed up, but absolutely amazing.

HNLzero 04-28-2006 08:47 PM

Grr when does this DVD come out.

Early Genesis is really wonderful music, I'd recommend checking out Selling England By The Pound and Foxtrot.

Lord Abortion 04-29-2006 05:40 AM

Yeah, I got into them when Steve Harris of Maiden namechecked them as one of his influences.

September. Not too long to wait.

I'm not sure what you'll think of Trespass. I'd definitly say that Foxtrot and Selling England By the Pound are better, so if you enjoy that then you'll love those.

I love that old school Genesis/Yes/ELP style Moog solo in Octavarium...

Clunge 04-29-2006 10:58 AM

Is there a confirmed tracklisting for the new DVD?

jpshortstuff 04-29-2006 11:01 AM
Is there a confirmed tracklisting for the new DVD?
New York City - Radio City Music Hall - 4/1/06

THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
I WALK BESIDE YOU

Set #2: (Band & Orchestra)

Encore: (Band & Orchestra)

I think thats what it is, plus some behind the scenes footage and extras probably.

Jev 04-29-2006 12:58 PM

I don't mind it.
It'll be interesting to see them with the orchestra.

Lord Abortion 04-29-2006 01:24 PM

Yeah, the whole of 6DOIT will be awesome, but they should have done LTL in the encore aswell.

Jev 04-29-2006 01:25 PM

It's pretty lame that they didn't do Vacant>SOC.

Lord Abortion 04-29-2006 01:31 PM
It's pretty lame that they didn't do Vacant>ITNOG.
Fixed

Jev 04-29-2006 01:41 PM
Fixed
Why not do all three?

Just Vacant on it's own leaves a void.

Lord Abortion 04-29-2006 01:45 PM

But it does showcase James' beautiful vocals.

Jev 04-29-2006 01:46 PM

Indeed.
I wonder if they did it with the single cello (was it chello?) or with the whole orchestra.

Clunge 04-29-2006 02:10 PM

Wha!

No These Walls, Never Enough or Panic Attack?

:( - I am heartily disappointed.
