I think it's also the tour where someone shouts out "PLAY SOMETHING FROM ANIMALS" and Gilmour responds "No, we'll be here all night!"
haha... i laughed out loud at that...lol

Its all gravys 10-07-2005 03:27 AM

Ephemeral 10-07-2005 09:15 AM
I have this David Gilmour in Concert CD my friend gave me, and it has this BONE CHILLING version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond Acoustic.

Seriously, I got shivers listening to it.

I think it's also the tour where someone shouts out "PLAY SOMETHING FROM ANIMALS" and Gilmour responds "No, we'll be here all night!"

Edit: Sweet, Pulse comes out on my birthday. I think I know what I'm getting.
Is that the Meltdown concert?

I have that one. It's awesome.

DeusExMachina 10-07-2005 11:01 AM
Originally it was just Gilmour. They just traded off verses for Live 8.
Ehh... no. Waters sang the verse for CN on the recording. Gilmour sang the chorus.

My birthday is today. And I'm seeing Paul McCartney tomorrow. It's very exciting.

Happy B-day

BTW: he was talking about Wish you were here

standard 10-07-2005 01:18 PM

When he talks his voice seems deeper than Waters... Well now atleast, in recent interviews.

Soothing would work better. :)

temporary 10-07-2005 02:07 PM
Ehh... no. Waters sang the verse for CN on the recording. Gilmour sang the chorus.
No, he meant Wish You Were Here. CN is probably the most famous use of their two different voices.

moaner 10-07-2005 03:03 PM
I don't think I've ever heard the two talk, but I always hear Gilmour's voice as being higher. Soothing is probably a better description though, now I think of it.
Dave's voice is of fairly average depth, whereas Roger has a very deep voice. they talk quite a lot on the live at pompeii directors cut (with the mini-documentary on darkside)

I love those parts. They seemed to really goof around a lot.

does PF have any dvds out of their concerts back in the 70's??? cos so far i have only seen fairly recent concerts

BigTrav415 10-07-2005 04:18 PM

I was just about to make a post about Live At Pompeii and how I wanted to get it. It's not an actual concert with an audience, but it's Floyd playing in Pompeii live (...). I've seen bits, it's amazing.

I have live at pompeii director's cut on dvd. It is very good, but don't go for it if you like later pink floyd. Everything on Pompeii is pre dark side of the moon. Echoes is pure brilliance.

1. Echoes (part 1)
2. Careful with that axe, Eugene
3. A saucerful of secrets
4. One of these days
5. Set the Controls for the heart of the Sun
6. Mademoiselle Nobs (pretty much Seamus, but no lyrics)
7. Echoes (part 2)

I think that's those are the tracks in order, I might have gotten them a little out of order though.

The version of Saucerful of Secrets is great on Pompeii.

Ummm

PATGOD wouldn't be what it was if Syd wasn't a druggie, alot of the creativity probably wouldn't have been there in my opinion. But I know what you mean, it's sad that such a young artist with such great potential ruined his life with LSD.

Yield 10-08-2005 08:42 AM

I was thinkin I might not like it because its different from stuff that Pink Floyd did later on, but I think its awesome

Do you mean LSD? Because, I mean, aren't you a tad bit worried about it. People like Brian Wilson went nuts from bad trips, didn't they? I know Shrooms can't hurt you to bad, but I wouldn't try the LSD...

DeusExMachina 10-08-2005 09:40 AM
No, he meant Wish You Were Here. CN is probably the most famous use of their two different voices.
Eep. I misunderstood. My apologies.

On the topic of drugs...

I'm probably going to be trying shrooms pretty soon. Also, next time I visit my friends in Seattle, I've got a good buddy who wants to do mescaline and go to a laser show with me. I'm not sure about that yet. I want to do a bit of research on mescaline first.

BigTrav415 10-08-2005 09:51 AM

So, now that I've finally gotten a CD burner, I think I'll make an Trav's Ultimate Floyd: '71-'79 mix for my friends. Now, I understand that it's hard to make a 'Greatest Hits' of Floyd, because of the way their albums are melded together and such, but considering this is coming out of a true Floyd fan, I think I can make it good. Here's what I think I'm gonna put on there.

1. One of These Days
2. Fearless
3. San Tropez
4. Breathe
5. Time
6. Any Colour You Like
7. Brain Damage
8. SOYCD pts. 1-V
9. Welcome to the Machine
10. Wish You Were Here
11. Pigs on the Wing pts. 1 and 2 (If someone could upload that for me, the one with the solo, I'd 'prreciate it :) BigTrav415 -at- gmail.com)
12. Is There Anybody Out There?
13. Nobody Home
14. Comfortably Numb
15. Echoes

I hope I can fit that all on one disc :( If not, I'll just take a few off, I don't really want to make it a two-disc thing. And if you have Pigs on the Wing pts.1 and 2 ;)

DeusExMachina 10-08-2005 09:59 AM

You won't be able to fit that. Does sound like a good little mix, though. You've got almost all of Meddle there!

BigTrav415 10-08-2005 10:02 AM
You won't be able to fit that. Does sound like a good little mix, though. You've got almost all of Meddle there!
Yeah, Meddle's probably my favorite Floyd album. I'll probably take off Any Colour You Like, Welcome to the Machine, Is There Anybidy Out There, and Nobody Home. I know that only leaves me with one Wall song, but whatever. Maybe I'll only have to take off a couple. Remember, Pigs on the Wing w/ solo, if anyone has it ;)

moaner 10-08-2005 10:07 AM
The version of Saucerful of Secrets is great on Pompeii.
aboslutely. It and ummagumma could be merged into the best version (longer intro and last section off ummagumma, middle part form pompeii with the opscillating delay pedal).

Pompeii is my favourite floyd release.

magicbus 10-08-2005 10:49 AM

I love the end of the Ummagumma version. Gilmour's vocals are so haunting, I get chills everytime I hear that part.

Dried Muffin Remnants 10-08-2005 11:19 AM

Meddle is my favorite PF album also. Sure there aren't many songs, but EVERY song on there is great and Echoes, One of these Days, and Fearless are probably in my top 5 favorite PF songs. Others are Time and Brain Damage.

I don't beleive it......it extremly rare and expensive. Not to mention mescaline is not really a northern drug. He may be talking about peyote or acid but mescaline? The chances of that are extremly slim. If he does seriously have it you're the luckist person in the world and will have an absoultly AMAZING trip. It's just as intense as acid......
Do you mean LSD? Because, I mean, aren't you a tad bit worried about it. People like Brian Wilson went nuts from bad trips, didn't they? Nothing in the world could make me not want to try it. I'm sooooo ready for it. I've done the research, tripped on shrooms many times and I used to be afraid of it like you but I have overcome that fear. I can't wait to get it.

Excuse me for the drug talk.....:p

I'm not going to write a big review, but it's a good album. Instrumentally great, although somewhat lacking in the depth/lyrics department. More poppy than most Floyd stuff, but still definitely worthwhile, especially if you're really into Floyd.

Wow, I don't even know what Mescaline is... I think I'll just leave it at "Drugs are bad, M'ky"

Come to think of it, am I the only one in this thread who doesn't do drugs? Before coming to this site I was all like "oh my god, someone smoked weed, they're the devil." Now I sort of understand that its not all that bad.

I thought Mescaline was considerably weaker than LSD.

I don't do drugs either, and many (weed, acid, shrooms) really aren't that bad. In fact, even saying 'aren't that bad' is the wrong idea. They aren't bad, just dangerous if used wrong. BTW if I did do drugs it would be shrooms or acid, out in the wilderness somewhere.

The whole idea of Shrooms or Acid scare the sh'it out of me. If I ever did something it would be small dosage of weed.

There are so many insane myths about shrooms and acid that you really can't believe. I've heard some real whoppers. It CAN mess you up, but if you're careful and know what you're doing, the risk is as low or lower than plenty of other activities people often do.

Oh, I don't mean the crap they feed you in school, I mean just the thought of putting yourself in a world were anything is bound to happen.
