Coroner - No More Color
Overkill - **** You (And then some!)/Feel The Fire (New reissue)
Anthrax - Among The Living

4 Different CDs for $40 bucks too. Great snag

You have a Metallica ripoff name, and you rated Chaos AD above Bestial Devastation.

CaptainWaits 03-19-2005 04:26 PM

My Overkill order of Feel the Fire has just come in. Now all I have to do is find a time to go pick it up

Seriously, that riff Bello plays at the end of the intro, it's just so awesome, and then the drumming gets heavy too.

Towards the end, I noticed the songs get faster, which is kickass. I didn't expect Anthrax to get that thrashy.

Coroner though. GOD ****...this is like brutal technical in a blender thrash. Ron's bass playing...I looked at some pics too, and he plays without a pick. Those riffs are ****ing complet to, and it's amazing just to hear the technicality of Coroner.

Overkill though, man, great stuff, especially **** YOU (And then Some).

"We don't care what you say, **** YOU!" <- that sounds like a good slogan for Death To Posers.

Heh. I made my name a looong time ago. December 2003 in fact. So that is irrelevant. Bestial Devastation is IMO not very well played, its kinda sloppy. But the later thrash albums are much better. I love them. Especially BtR. I don't much like Chaos Ad, but I do feel its better then Bestial Devastation.

Dargon, The Haunted aren't whiffle-thrash. They aren't even thrash!

Whiffle-thrash is highly polished (production-wise) and politically charged thrash with watered-down and repetitive riffs. Some whiffle-thrash is good though, because the riffs are good at times and don't bore you when they are repeated. Note how in my profile I stated against bad whiffle-thrash.

Notable whiffle-thrash albums:

Testament - Practice What You Preach

Exodus - Fabulous Disaster (Not fully a whiffed album, though helped usher in the genre. An example of a good "whiffed" thrash album.)

Exodus - Impact Is Imminent (WHIFF! Only Death Decides is a good song though.)

ThrashMaster27 03-20-2005 05:25 AM

Impact Is Imminent is listenable, but yeah, it's packed with crap. Anyway, has anybody heard Leviathan - Legions of the Undead? Was Chris Barnes' band before he started doing crap music.

I stumbled upon them on Metal Archives when I was looking up on Lowbrow. Anyway, there's a review of the EP and it's from our good friend UltraBoris, probably the most eilitest prat around the world. Anyway, he compares their sound to Darkness Descends era Dark Angel. I was just wondering if anyones had the pleasure of listening to them.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-20-2005 05:43 AM

havent heard of them, UltraBoris' Darkness Descends reveiw is awesome but.

DisposableHeroes 03-20-2005 06:46 AM

Hello all

Recent hauls:
Death Angel - Act III
Nuclear Assault - Game Over/The Plague

I have two songs from that EP, and they are great. I want to go buy that, hopefully somebody somewhere has it.

I enjoy Boris' reviews, even if they bash albums I like. He's not really an elitist compared to that Cynical dude, though.

Would Master of Puppets and other early Metallica fall into this category? it seems like they would to me.

BludgeonySteve 03-20-2005 09:55 AM

I got Testament's legacy album (greatest hits exept they don't really have hits ;)). It's awesome.

Would Exodus be another band to check into?

Definately! Go for Bonded By Blood by them to start off with.
Would Master of Puppets and other early Metallica fall into this category? it seems like they would to me.
Definately not. Those albums (Except for AJFA) were neither highly-polished nor politcally-charged, and definitely featured some great riffs.

Thinking that those albums were whiffed makes me wonder if you've even listened to them.

ForiegnPenguin 03-20-2005 10:23 AM

What would a good Sadus album be?

Illusions (although now it's known as Chemical Exposure).

Heh I've listened to them so much. They were my first thrash albums. They do have great riffs and such. They just became boring to me after a while. I was thinking your definition of whiffle thrash was that kind of slower metal, still fairly fast, but not extreme, that bands like Metallica used to play.

whatduffhuck7 03-20-2005 11:31 AM

what are some good thrash record labels? like i know century media is the base of melodeth, so whats the best thrash record label?

Ah, I see what you're saying. Sorry if my earlier post seemed harsh.

There are many great thrash labels, but if I had to pick one I think SPV/Steamhammer has been putting out a few solid records as of late. They're kinda "mainstream" though.

Metalblade produces a few good Thrash bands too. But like SPV, they seem to be going mainstream too.

DisposableHeroes 03-20-2005 12:17 PM

Alright guys, i need some Overkill. Where should i start?

CaptainWaits 03-20-2005 12:54 PM

Ahh great decision. Start with either "Years of Decay" or "Horroscope", which are their spotlight albums. Then depending on which you enjoy more (they sound pretty similar in style), either try Overkill's new music, or their beggining stuff. If you liked Horroscope as the better, go for a newer album like "WFO" or "Necroshine", then if you like Years of, go for one of their early solid thrash releases like "Taking Over" or "Feel the Fire" (my avatar)

DisposableHeroes 03-20-2005 01:07 PM

Thanks, so i take it their stuff is pretty consistent?

CaptainWaits 03-20-2005 01:10 PM

Oh yeh, extremely consitent. They wouldn;t have one album in any era that would dissapoint you. Some of them don't meet up to the other albums, but they still have have some excellence in them

DisposableHeroes 03-20-2005 01:11 PM

Excellent, thanks! You into Death Angel?

CaptainWaits 03-20-2005 01:14 PM

Of course I am. Love those guys, you must be too

DisposableHeroes 03-20-2005 01:27 PM

Met them too, awesome band and guys

RCA 03-20-2005 03:58 PM

I've also met the guys in Death Angel, they signed my Ultra-Violence vinyl. :)

ForiegnPenguin 03-20-2005 04:04 PM
