I'm surprised at how many people really dont like the new album.

It clicked with me on the first listen.I've loved it ever since.

Maybe you'll come around to it, or maybe not.It took me a good 4-5 months before I started liking ****ation.

It's just a "meh" album to me. It doesn't really have the "Opeth magic" to it.

Deth 10-01-2005 03:56 PM

Clicked with me. I fell asleep to it today when I took a nap.

Chu 10-01-2005 04:35 PM

Wow, Nectar is amazing.

Yeah it is...I love that song. :D

Anyone listen to the end of ''By The Pain I See In Others'' yet?

bucket 10-01-2005 04:55 PM

There was a thread in the Opeth Forums with rumors of a project with Akerfeldt, Wilson, and Portnoy.

Now I'm not a big fan of DT, but the thought of a band with Mike and Steven... :D

I doubt it's true though :(

Darkness 10-01-2005 05:17 PM

^ I doubt it, though that would be rather awesome. Portnoys a great drummer.

That will never happen. Martin is a far better drummer.

I have no idea how to play something backwards.

Do you have a Sound Recorder on your pc?

Should be in accessories>entertainment>sound recorder

Record it on that and then go to Effects and select Reverse, then listen to it.
When listening to it normal, it begins with the lyrics on Master's Apprentices ''Soothing trance...'' Check it out, it's awesome. :thumb:

edit: I have it saved, I can send it to you

Deth 10-01-2005 08:04 PM

Shall do.

Anyway, goodnight everyone.

lost_profits 10-01-2005 10:15 PM

goodnight

I just relized how amazing Dirge for November is.

Blanka Flip 10-01-2005 11:17 PM
I can't stand it either. Ever since it came out, I've been listening to a lot more Death.
I thought I remember you saying earlier in here that Ghost Reveries grew on you and that it is amazing...

PinkZeppelin27 10-02-2005 05:50 AM

I heard The Drapery Falls for the first time the other day and was blown away by it. I've been listening to it almost non stop. Both the clean vocals and growls just sound great in this song. There's also a great contrast of softer acousic and heavier parts.

My favorite GR song so far is Harlequin Forest, but I haven't listened the whole album yet.

Simon__Thats_All 10-02-2005 05:59 AM

Yes. The Drapery Falls is incredible :)

Yeah I said that. From terrible to decent, nothing amazing compared to other Opeth discography. I do like a few songs from Ghost Reveries...but the album as a whole doesn't do much for me. It's actually getting worse now each time I listen to it. The exact opposite of Deliverance

Just to be sure we're on the same page, you know I'm talking about Martin Lopez, right? Ex-Drummer for Amon Amarth. His work can be heard on the albums My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and ****ation, as well as Opeth's last release, Ghost Reveries of 2005.

Xspeeder 10-02-2005 10:19 AM

Deliverance is amazing. Ghost Reveries I believe is their most complete album. Complete as in it is varied and it has teh appropritate beginning, middle and end. That's why its appealing. And it has their signature sound, you can tell its Opeth just by 10 seconds of every song, especially the grand conjuration

Finally, somebody other than me who likes this song. Def one of my top 5. :thumb:

Any ways, I got Ghost Reveries about 2 weeks ago. I must say im VERY disappointed. However, it is growing on me like it seems to be with a lot of people who didnt like it at first. But still, to me its one of their weakest albums, easily. The saving graces are the slow/clean sections mostly attributed to Per's magnificent keyboards and Mikael's voice (which is in top form on this disc), plus the guitarists didnt slack on their acoustic lines either. HOWEVER, the 'heavy' riffs are pure crap (with the exception of 'Ghost of Perdition' and 'the Grand Conjuration). There evilness seems to be gone and now are replaced with a lot of generic riffs. Tsk tsk tsk Mike, getting lazy are we?

Any ways i hope they will stop slacking off on their heavy parts and for the next album remember that part of what makes them such a great band is the balance of good clean parts AND heavy parts. Any one else here agree?

I hope they actually make OPETH songs on the next album.

By the way, Forest of October is such a kickass song...

Same for me, I really like Ghost of Perdition and for right now, that's what stands out for me. As I said..the 2 things that really stand out on this album is how ****ing amazing Lopez is with drums on this album. The double bass makes me happy :)
Also, Mikael's voice is amazing. The range he has on this album is impressive. Maybe he took lessons from Steven Wilson?
Anyway, yeah...this is NOWHERE near the level of any of their previous albums. I am dissapointed, but its still a good album.
I have to realize that you can't really top BWP...its just that good of an album

I agree...I love In Mist She Was Standing as well...that little slap bass part in the middle is really bad ***. I love the riffage in Forest though when Mike says "...Please...take me there" and then BAM! Riff...awesome :)

RouteOne 10-02-2005 11:57 AM

I just don't know what went wrong when they were making GR.

Exactly. The old stuff was way more atmospheric and just gave you goosebumps.

100%

Akerfeldts voice is really decent on this album, both singing and screaming, but it lacks a lot of heaviness, like you said. The album is pretty boring to me. Don't get me wrong, there are certain riffs throughout the album that are catchy, but for the most part, the album isn't anything spectacular. Let me get this straight before I forget...the keyboards have gotta go. I can't stand that in the songs on Ghost Reveries. On the heavy build up on The Grand Conjuration, it's decent, but I hear an annoying keyboard basically with no notes, as if he just decided to smack the keys with his hands during that part...maybe that's why I don't really care for Ghost Reveries all that much.

I hope they don't experiment too much with this style on future albums, but hey, people change.

I think if the utilize the keyboards in the RIGHT way, it can add more atmosphere to their songs, but currently as of now, they do get annoying.

Don't get the wrong Idea, I like the album a lot, but I rarely listen to it. I listen to Ghost Of Perdition...that's it. That's the only song on the album I think is superb. I can see a future Opeth with Keyboards, but they need serious work.

P S:
And yeah I have been listening to a lot of Death lately. Human is so lethal. Sean Reinert is godly on drums on that album.

Fact:The name Opeth was taken from the book Sunbird (1972) by author Wilbur Smith, and was originally spelled Opet. In the book, Opet is the city of the moon.

ITP and TSOP own Human so badly (IMO).
