How's it comparing to A Flame to the Ground Beneath?

Tyler 02-22-2007 02:12 PM

So far it's another 5/5 for me. It's a little different in that it seems to be less.....I dont know. It's more power-metal and less epic metal, I guess.

Tyr 02-22-2007 02:16 PM

Right, right. I might have to check it out.

Tyler 02-22-2007 02:18 PM

Definitely do. The booklet is so amazingly gay and hilarious, it's just a bunch of shirtless europeans.

Tyr 02-22-2007 02:21 PM

If I want to see a shirtless European I just need to watch myself in the mirror when I wake up. But I'll try to scavenge the album anyways.

Tyler 02-22-2007 02:23 PM

Is your name Ethereal Magnanimus? Do you have a picture of you and your band standing in a field, your hand raised high in the air, all of you shirtless, with the words "NO FATE. ONLY WILLPOWER" strewn across the bottom?

DIDN'T ****IN THINK SO

Tyr 02-22-2007 02:50 PM

No, but I'm Swedish, as well, and I can do shirtless. Of course I can't compete with Lost Horizon, though.

ArcLite 02-22-2007 02:52 PM
Definitely do. The booklet is so amazingly gay and hilarious, it's just a bunch of shirtless europeans.
Haha, I guess it's gay that I have that booklet centerpage up on my wall with all my other shit. It's ok though, cause it's Lost Horizon :thumb: .

Tyler 02-22-2007 02:54 PM

To be honest, their image is what makes me love them so much more.

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 03:11 PM

Lost Horizon feckin' rules.

Stormrider 02-22-2007 03:16 PM

I have a song on my computer I think, don't remember it at all tbh. Will need to check that out eventually.

ArcLite 02-22-2007 03:18 PM
I have a song on my computer I think, don't remember it at all tbh. Will need to check that out eventually.
:amaze: You had better get on that...

Stormrider 02-22-2007 03:23 PM

I was expecting an reply to my post sooner or later.

"FIRST U DIDNT KNOW MANOWAR AND NOw THIS ?!!?!?!"

:p

Heh, yeah I will. After my Kamelot album though.

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 06:08 PM

Jammie, you're disappointing me. Pretty soon, you'll have to kill yourself because you're too unmetal.

Riva 02-22-2007 06:39 PM

Awakening The World is a little bit better than A Flame To The Ground Beneath in a few ways. Martin's bass is a lot higher up in the mix, and he's probably the best bass player in power metal, so it's very enjoyable. Plus the songwriting is just a bit more varied: Sworn In The Metal Wind and Heart Of Storm being standouts.

However, Daniel's vocals are much more mature and clear in AFTTGB, so it's hard to definitively rank one over the other.

Tyler 02-22-2007 06:40 PM

Yeah, I totally agree only I weigh them both at about the same level of awesomeness. I definitely noticed the bass though.

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 06:57 PM

I'm not sure which one is better. I think Awakening is more consistent, but AFTTGB has better songs.

Plus, it has that epic scream in Highlander. There's nothing better than that.

Tyler 02-22-2007 06:58 PM

Yeah the vocals are honestly unreal on AFTTGB. I dont know what they're going to do without him. Have you heard his other band, Heed I think it is?

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 06:59 PM

Nope. Never even knew he had a different band.

Tyler 02-22-2007 06:59 PM

They're apparently more traditional heavy metal. I've been meaning to look into 'em for a while now.

Tyler 02-22-2007 07:33 PM

OMFG I NEED TO DOUBLE POST FOR THIS.

I JUST GOT THE NEW MANOWAR ALBUM

k

Stormrider 02-22-2007 07:54 PM
Jammie, you're disappointing me. Pretty soon, you'll have to kill yourself because you're too unmetal.
I'm sorry :(

As I had mentioned, I just havn't been checking out much new power metal with the excpetion of the Dark Moor.

Tyler 02-22-2007 08:09 PM

Okay, this Manowar is already amazing and I'm still on the opening overture...

Deth 02-22-2007 08:10 PM

Every Manowar overture is amazing. I need that album.

Tyler 02-22-2007 08:11 PM

It just leaked, I'm so excited! It doesn't come out here until the end of April.

Tyler 02-22-2007 08:45 PM

Okay nevermind, this is disappointing.

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 11:28 PM

You had my hopes up...:(

I noticed that trend with Warriors Of The World. Call To Arms was EPIC, but then it just kinda went downhill. I stopped at An American Trilogy.

My God, that was a terrible song.

Tyler 02-22-2007 11:30 PM

The problem with Gods of War is there's like, almost no metal on it. It's chock full of these epic overtures and stuff, but most of the like, Manowar-style of music is stuff that was on the EP anyways.

I couldn't get the whole way through :|

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 11:33 PM

No metal? What happened to Manowar?!

Tyler 02-22-2007 11:34 PM

It's almost all monologues and interludes and ****. The songs that are actual Manowar RULE, but still.

I'll post back when I give it another listen tomorrow.

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 11:35 PM

Only Rhapsody is allowed to have interludes.

Them, and maybe Bal-Sagoth. But they take care of interludes during the songs.

Tyler 02-22-2007 11:37 PM

Actually, this new Manowar suffers from the same stuff the new Rhapsody OF FIRE does.

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 11:39 PM

Too much epic?

/will not refer to Rhapsody with their new tag-on, no matter what Rhapsody Music says.

Tyler 02-22-2007 11:40 PM

Yeah, like when the album started I was so excited by the huge epic intro. The orchestra, choirs, all that ****. I loved it.

But then it just wouldn't stop!

Shattered_Future 02-22-2007 11:42 PM

Tis a shame. Manowar need to bring their balls back out.

Tyler 02-22-2007 11:45 PM

Well, it does end with Die For Metal, so it's not all bad.

Shattered_Future 02-23-2007 09:51 AM

True, true...

FOR HEAVY METAL, WE WILL DIE!

Stoic 02-23-2007 03:43 PM

Yeah disappointing indeed (not a fan but nevermind, hehe) although I don't really understand what's wrong. I mean, not actual songs, wtf?

Tyler 02-23-2007 10:51 PM

I'll post my review tonight, but this is an excerpt that about sums it up.
If you include the AMAZING bonus track (more on that in a minute), this album is one hour and thirteen minutes long. Now, if you do the math, there’s about half an hour worth of overtures and interludes on the album. There’s 8 Metal tracks on the album, which equals half of the tracklist, and three (four if you count Odin, which was on the EP in string form) of those were off the EP. What you’re left with is around 5 new Manowar tracks worth listening to, one of which is a bonus.
