If you've heard Isis, it's similar but bigger. No vocals and the soundscapes are more epic. They're really worth checking out.

I'm going to see Opeth with Nevermore in Toronto..... I really wish Pelican were still on the tour at that point, I'm a huge fan.
|
Pelican rules!
|
I'd rather see Nevermore...
But I'm seeing neither... :upset: |
I finally got ghost reveries. I think its a great cd, but I like Black Water Park and Deliverance better.
I really want to see nevermore and opeth. I missed nevermore on Gigantour and now, I'll sadly miss them again, and Opeth also. |
True, Blackwater Park and Deliverance > Ghost Reveries. :p
|
I prefer GR to Deliverance, although I still like D.
|
I own black water park, i heard they were a good band so i picked up the album and it blew my mind, but i haven't heard anything else so far.
|
Just to clear up my side of a few things, simply. I love Bleak. It was that song, Blackwater Park, and The Drapery Falls which first introduced me to Opeth, and it's always going to be a true classic for me.
AND. For the ominous rating of Ghost Reveries. 1. Harlequin Forest 2. Ghost of Perdition 3. Beneath the Mire 4. Baying of the Hounds 5. Hours of Wealth (His vocals make me just sit there in a blind gaze.) 6. The Grand Conjuration 7. Isolation Years Let's keep in mind that this listing is not entirely accurate, as I'd say for number 4- On I love all those songs the same...But it was the obligatory rating. So. AND. Martin Lopez is my favorite drummer ever. Metal or not. :thumb: |
I just can't stand GR. I really hope their next album doesn't sound like it. IMO.

I can't stand it either. Ever since it came out, I've been listening to a lot more Death. |

I really hope they return to their roots on the next album.....but i'm afraid that will not happen. R.I.P. Dual harmonies. :( |
I really love his growls on GR, specifically The Baying of The Hounds, I can't stop listening to it!
|

The growls are ice, but overall it seems that the songs are rushed. There isn't really any build up anymore. |
I thought there was a great buildup on Beneath the Mire.
|
I can't say I really notice a difference in their writing, but take note I have never really listened to anything other then My Arms, Your Hearse, Blackwater Park, ****ation and Deliverance (Although I have all their albums, just never listened to any).
At first listen I thought GR had a very big Blackwater Park influence, but it really is on its own I think, I'm not saying I think GR is better, I probably won't be listening to it as much as I do Blackwater Park in the future, but I'm liking it a lot at the moment. Also yeah tell me some songs from Orchid, Morningrise or Still Life I might enjoy please :thumb: |

I think I'm one of the few people here who doesn't like Deliverance that much.
BWP and Still Life are the best and ****ation and GR probably are my second favorites. |

Wow, you're dumb. Especially because Opeth are definitely renowned for making the same album over and over again...after identical albums like Blackwater Park, Deliverance, ****ation and Ghost Reveries, we can definitely expect them to produce yet another in the exact same vein. |
So talking about their older albums I decided to give Orchid a listen, I'm about half way through "In the Mist...", it just finished an accoustic section with a rumbley bassline. That was awesome.
I remember in the bassist poll, the Opeth bassist was there and people were saying how Opeth lacked creative bass lines, usually I would have agreed with that, but hearing that then, that was awesome. |
Oh the band. :thumb:
R.I.P Chuck
I've been getting into Death a lot lately too. They're currently making a solid run for my top 5 bands. EDIT: To Chu, there are a lot of really great basslines on Morningrise. |
My friend really likes Death a lot...
I like their music, but Chuck's voice just completely puts me off... |
Wow I just listened to the end of ''By The Pain I See In Others'' in reverse...he sings segments from the song ''The Master's Apprentices'', in the same tone too! It's really eerie.
Here's how to do it: If you don't have a [Sound Recorder] on your computer, this technique won't work. First off get a headset on with a mic (works better) go to Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder. Scroll through the song ''By The Pain I See In Others'' at about 12:10, then pause it. Hold your mic to the earphone and Start the recorder and press play on the song. It fades out at about 12:44, scroll quickly to 13:13 or so...then wait for it to end.(If you don't scroll, it won't all fit in 60 seconds.) When It's all recorded, go to Effects, click Reverse and press play. Enjoy :D |
