Yeah, can you upload that '65 Dead bootleg please?
I'm uploading Curtis, it failed so many times last night. Well that makes perfect sense considering The Who and Jethro Tull are both better than the Stones. |

Yeah, Neil Young is to me like what the Who are to Lunch or the Dead are to Badmoon.
And like JPJ is for JPJ, lol jpjrulestheworld. I do like Neil though. I'm listening to some of the Roots' instrumentals because I saw ?uestlove on the preview for Dave Chapelle's Block Party so I wanted to listen to some of his beats. |
Has anyone heard anything by 'The Black Keys'
I've got Rubber Factory and Thickfreakness. Amazing band, expecially jsut for two guys. But alot of their songs sound alike, which isn't that bad. |
Has anyone heard anything by 'The Black Keys'
Yeah, I have Rubber Factory, Thickfreakness and The Big Come Up. They're a pretty awesome band but yes, they can get repetitive. They do a few cool covers though such as Beefheart's "Grown so Ugly", Taj Mahal's "Leaving Trunk" and The Beatle's "She Said, She Said". It's a bootleg so I can post it. hxxp://s23.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3SIKC2B15ZPWI1X263742YYKUY |
Then ****ing ignore them.
I love productive posts. :)
Anyone want to start thinking about what the hell we're going to be putting into the first post of the new thread? |
I love productive posts.
I love constant bitching about Last.FM. :) I also love how if we don't post an essay of a post someone bitchs about cutting down the spam, and yada yada. So to make sure I don't get bitched at: Did we finalize and decide that'd it be Med who would do the first post? I'm all up for having the first post from this thread be in the other. Although not a lot of front page quoting has been happening recently, which is sorta sad, but as I said earlier I really don't care whats in the front page. Maybe give a brief overview of Classic Rock? Oh hey, any chance anyone wanna send me Neil Young - Live Rust or the album with that song "Rocking in the Free World." http://rateyourmusic.com/~Jacaphallus, like the name? |
I think that Badmoon, RNR, RockandRoll, or Med should make the first post. The first three have been there from the beginning and Med's the only mod who cares about us. As for contents, talking about what goes in is just as spammy as posting last.fm so let's have an AIM chat tonight or something to decide. I'm thinking maybe a brief overview of classic rock (definiton of the time period and all that), and include some essential artists and albums in the first post. Or something like that.
And Schyma, seriously lighten up on the spam talk a little. I'm against spam as much as anyone, but as Jac said, posts bitching about spam are just as bad as actual spam. Plus, we're a pretty tight community and I don't think it's terrible to go off-topic once in a while. It adds some personality and fun to the thread. It may be getting a little out of hand, but bitching about it all the time isn't going to help anything. |

I de-coded the message. |
Well if he really wants to leave, that's just one less person posting spam about spam. Whatever. I really don't care anymore.
Take my idea for the first post and replace "Schyma" with "Med" and it should work I guess. Hopefully I should actually get to the music store in a little while, this money is burning a hole in my pocket. |
We should all stop spamming and complaining about the spam. Problem will be solved. Enough said.
I like Robo's idea for the first post, and I know Med would be up for doing a great little write-up to get things started off. He would be great to have overview a couple key artists or albums. Plus then we get to have the fun of deciding what to put in the first post. I veto based on the fact that I don't really like Sgt. Pepper's. And I think a non-gimmick first post would be better. Then again, I really don't care a whole lot. |

Corky Romano is such a funny movie  That wouldn't be the whole post, just a part of it. Of course we have to have a mega-serious post because the internet is serious business. But really, there's nothing saying we can't have a good ol' beast of a post, especially since it will better inform n00bs of what the thread is about, and it will probably repel less of the potential new regs than quoting the first post in this thread and everyone ignoring them/flaming them. Just an idea. |

Who ever mentioned the Neil Young album with RITFW on it could they upload it? i have no Young except for an unrealeased aboustic album.
And yeah the thread is dead, we need to face it, but i think when we start it up again we should have Med do it, and BigTrav that song parody is awesome. |
I actually like the idea of starting the thread off with a joke or inside joke among us regs. But I doubt everyone in here has the balls to do that.
Opening joke: Scholars have debated for centuries over the definition but have remained clueless. Until now. They've recently determined that classic rock is not a genre, but consists of just one band, the gods formerly known as AC/DC. Definition of classic rock: Okay, all joking aside, classic rock is impossible to define and if you ask each reg to name a starting point, everyone will have a different answer. Most feel that classic rock started with The Beatles. Others will say that early in their career the Beatles were poppy wusses and that The Stones invented the classic rock attitude (Jacaphallus). Or maybe classic rock didn't start until 4 British boys who smashed their instruments on a tv show (Lunch). Or possibly with the greatest bad*** ever, Bob Dylan (me). Regardless of who invented classic rock, most people agree that Elvis is the forefather because he mixed African-American blues and white country music and added his own hip shaking swagger. And thus '50s rock and roll was born with guys like Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper, Carl Perkins and more. I don't believe that this was classic rock, but this early rock and roll certainly influenced the first wave of classic rock heavily. First Wave: Now the first wave of classic rock really arrived in the mid sixties when The Beatles listened to Bob Dylan and started abusing certain substances. The impact of this was incalcuable. People followed The Beatles footsteps and started to question traditional rules of society. What if I start smoking pot? What if I write about inappropriate topics in my songs? What if my song is twice as long as the conventional single? What if I just don't give a crap about having hit singles and focus on making solid albums? In short, the mid sixties saw a revolution in thinking. People became open-minded. New musical territories were explored. In 1965, Bob Dylan released Like A Rolling Stone as a single. Nobody had released a single like that before. Just listening to the song, you can tell that a new generation was emerging and things would be different. At over 6 minutes long, it was 2-3 times longer than the average radio hit. And the overall sound was just revolutionary. The sneering singing, the pumping organs, the electric guitars. Just revolutionary. And the rest of Dylan's classic album, Highway 61 Revisited was just as strong as the single. Nobody made albums with depth like that. People came up with a catchy single, and released it on an album along with a bunch of filler. But Dylan rewrote the rules and The Beatles followed. And then everyone started following The Beatles. Okay, I have to go to dinner, so I'm just going to post what I've written so far. It's not complete but it's a start. Tell me if you like the outline of it and start thinking of some essential artists and albums. On essential albums, I think there should be a rule, no more than one album per artist. I know that is amazingly hard, but it's an essential list, not an "albums I like" list. And don't pick your favorite albums. Just albums that are essential. |
