No, I have not heard or seen him with back up singers before, but I really don't see how he could play totally uninspired while he's playing with Derek Trucks, who I think can express emotions musically better than anyone else around today.

Plus, good back up singers can add a nice touch to live shows. Pulse anyone?
Are there any other good summer tours lining up that anyone knows of?
Well, ABB is pretty much a given. The only concerts scheduled at the big summer concert venue here are DMB and Jimmy Buffet.

Broken Arrow 03-04-2006 06:46 PM

Sweet, ABB tour?

I'm definetly going this time!

Lunch 03-04-2006 06:46 PM

The Allmans are touring again? Awesome, I think I was the only one here who missed them last summer (no money, stupid unemployment). Now I have a job though so I can afford to go.

jpj 03-04-2006 06:47 PM

Probably, unless Gregg goes and dies.

I'm just basing this off the fact that they haven't missed Burgettstown, PA in 5 summers.

EDIT: I found a video of Trucks when he was 16 playing in Brazil. I was looking for his performance on Conan, but I didn't find it.

Also, isn't The Who putting out a new album? Maybe they'll have a tour.

AngusRocks85 03-04-2006 07:14 PM

Isn't EVH making a new CD or somethin' like that?

WelcomeToTheMachine 03-04-2006 07:55 PM

jpj 03-04-2006 08:12 PM

I would be at my dad's this weekend, the good computer is at my mom's :upset:

Lunch 03-04-2006 08:13 PM

I just signed up, but they won't send me an email.

WelcomeToTheMachine 03-04-2006 08:16 PM

i got mine, thats wierd.

BigTrav415 03-04-2006 08:22 PM

Screw Rapidshare. Anyone who uses it on their site will just switch to something else if they start charging. But I might do it later anyway.

I missed ABB when they came here in the fall because of freaking soccer. Apparently there were a few guys on the varsity team that were going to skip the game and I would have tried to get a ride with them, but it ended up being a really important game and they decided not to. I talked to them later and they said it was probably the worst decision they'd ever made, even though we probably would have lost without them. But yeah, I'm definitely going this summer as long as I'm not in Philmont at that point.

EDIT: Apparently the band moe. was jamming with them there too, I caught a reporter on my CR radio station at the concert but out away from it talking about how awesome it was :( :( :(

JonG 03-04-2006 08:24 PM

Nice Schyma.

Derek Trucks is amazing. Hopefully he comes to Iowa.

I might go to Gov't Mule, it's a bit north, but I might.

jpj 03-04-2006 08:24 PM

I'm definitely going again this summer. It was easily the highlight of my summer last year. I just hope my mom doesn't end up scheduling our vacation when they're coming here, which would happen with my luck. I missed Tom Petty and The Black Crowes last year because I was in Florida.

He came here and I'm still kicking myself for not going. Tickets were only like $19. And definitely go to Gov't Mule if you can...I can't believe it's been almost two years since I saw them.

Broken Arrow 03-04-2006 08:28 PM

Haha I can remember when you saw them. Well I remember you telling us about it.

And thanks so much for that info, I'm going on the biggest spree right now. :)

Lunch 03-04-2006 08:28 PM

I made a mistake not going to the Allman show last year too.

I really with this damn confirmation email would come so I could get my password or whatever and download a bunch of albums while I could. Rapidshare always finds some way to suck.

Did you guys get the email right after you signed up?

Edit: Awesome, I got my account info. Obscure albums here I come.

Broken Arrow 03-04-2006 08:38 PM

Yeah, check your junk email folder cause that's where mine was.

I must have downloaded like 20 albums already.

jpj 03-04-2006 08:38 PM

I demand uploads.

WelcomeToTheMachine 03-04-2006 08:58 PM

now that i have the free acoutn i dotn know what to upload.
Isn't EVH making a new CD or somethin' like that?
That would be sweet if he did. That would be awesome if Van Halen did a CD with Sammy sometime soon. After seeing them in the summer of '04, I'd buy it.

JonG 03-04-2006 08:59 PM

Bob Weir is pretty ace* on these bootlegs that I have.

No Donna=good.

On one of these bootlegs, the finale is Throwin' Stones > Touch of Grey > Estimated Prophet.

/orgasm

*oshi no pun intended. Not kidding.

You no like Donna?

JonG 03-04-2006 09:04 PM

No.

I need to make a definition on Urban Dictionary.

Donna Godchaux:
Back-up singer for the Grateful Dead, usually singing out of key. You can find her annoying screams in "Playing In The Band."

WelcomeToTheMachine 03-04-2006 09:04 PM

i just downloaded an album done by Grace Slick and The Great Society, the band Grace was in before JA, i hope its good.

She effectively ruins parts of Scarlet Begonias too.

Woodstock 03-04-2006 09:06 PM

I don't see the e-mail box.

EDIT: Nevermind, got it

JonG 03-04-2006 09:11 PM

Anybody want anything?

I'm bored.

List please. :)

Oh, you're good.

BigTrav415 03-04-2006 09:13 PM

Wow, I used to like Donna, but now I see that JonJ and Lunch don't, so it must be cool not to like her. Shi, must... change... opinion... to... fit... in...

Just kidding, I never liked her too much, but she's not horrible.

JonG 03-04-2006 09:14 PM

The reason why she was so "bad", was that they didn't have enough monitors for everybody, so she never heard herself sing. That's kind of difficult when singing I'd think.

jpj 03-04-2006 09:14 PM

I don't see how you can criticize her without first criticizing Phil Lesh on Uncle John's Band (and others).

Seriously, listen to the live version on the extended edition of Workingman's Dead. Jerry and Bob have a really nice harmony with Jerry's higher, softer voice, and Bob's lower voice. Then there's Phil wailing in the background, not even close to being in key, like someone's got his balls in a vice. I can't listen to the song for more than 30 seconds because it makes me cringe.

Hmm, I don't really care for any of those songs, I guess I prefer early Dead to late Dead by a huge margin.

NP-Jimi Hendrix and John McLaughlin- 30 min jam
