I like the Dead Kennedys, but like Badmoon, I think I like the Minutemen better. Proto-punk is good too, but what about post-punk? Violent Femmes anyone?
|
What exactly is proto-punk?
|
The Violent Femmes are awesome. I never really understood what post-punk was. Anyone care to explain it?
Edit: Proto-punk is like, pre-punk. MC5, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges. Stuff like that. They kind of set the template for punk to come. The whole attitude and what not. |

So then I've heard that The Who and The Kinks could be described as proto-punk, is that accurate? Edit: Hey I didn't even notice that I'd gone past 2,000 posts!:chug: |
Maybe they could. I've heard the Who called that on occasion but they're pretty borderline. They definitely have the attitude and stage-antics though.
|
I definitely wouldn't call The Who and especially The Kinks Proto-Punk. There's most certainly a difference between them, the Stooges, the MC5 and the VU.
|
Do you guys want me to upload Bless it's Pointed Little Head by Jefferson Airplane? I read through that conversation and didn't see that album come up. If you guys didn't know it's a live album, with some great psychedelic jamming.

Eh. The who had some punk-ish qualities. Especially in their stage show and their contempt for authority and all that. But i can see how the Kinks wouldn't be. Livewired, that would be awesome. I've heard good things about it. |

Yeah I just figured it was more because of their aggressive attitude and stage antics, trashing instruments and whatnot. |

Is it wonderful?
On An Island is pretty great. Very smooth stuff. Gilmour's playing is top notch too. |
Thanks for the JA guys.
so i got a Rush dvd in the mail today, it has an awesome medley of YYZ/Temple Of Syrinx/Tom Sawyer, and has inspired me to learn YYZ So does anyone have Moving Pictures they could upload? NP - Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers |
Is anyone else seeing the UNC car rampage story on their news? It's all over the NC news, right before noon a bunch of UNC students were at this plaza-type place called The Pit (lol), and a UNC alumni with a white Jeep drove into it and gunned the engine and hit 5 people. They caught him later at a stop sign, and I guess he told the police something, because now they are surrounding his apartment in nearby Carrsboro for a bomb threat or something. The wierdest thing was that my sister didn't have school today becuase they just got back from a class trip, and she was talking to her boyfriend who goes to UNC, and he was walking down the street to get some lunch while talking to her, and he said "What the hell is going on?" and ran down the the Pit, and the car had apparently just left, and everyone was still in shock over the whole thing. No one died by the way, just bruises and stuff.
Sorry if this is spam, it's kind of important so yeah. I was just at Best Buy and almsot bought some Who, but I didn't have my wallet :-/ |

I was just at Best Buy and almsot bought some Who, but I didn't have my wallet :-/
That would make it tough. That's a pretty crazy story there. What a nutcase. |
Weird story. Crazy dude.
I just bought Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys by Traffic and It Takes a Nation of Million to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy. I don't know how I've gone this long without LSotHHB. It's like ectasy listening to this. I used to have the Public Enemy on my computer but accidentally deleted it. I remember it being pretty good though I only got to listen to it once and that was a long time ago. I was going to buy CSN's debut, but it was too expensive. That Jefferson Airplane sounds good. I have to download it but I still need to listen to Volunteers first. I only have 3.6 GB left on my hard drive. Does that mean I should be worried about my computer crashing and stop downloading stuff? Or do I still have a lot of free space? |

Out of my 40 GB hardrive, 18 gigs are music. I'm down to 1.96 GB of free space now, and that's usually when I start deleting stuff. I like to have at least 3 or 4 gigs free. Depends. How much space does your hard drive have total? It needs at least 15% of space to run efficiently. If you have a second hard drive, I suggest moving stuff onto there. |
The Traffic I downloaded didn't work because I needed this password to play it. :(
I just downloaded an album of Chris's site that looks awesome, from my point anyways. |
Thanks for the help Aarons. I deleted some stuff (but no music) and now I've got 5.58 gigs free. I have a 52.3 capacity, so 15% of that is around 8 free, so I'll delete some more stuff.
Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys is so amazing. Livewired, what album did you download? |
Wow, my uncle just sent me some Dead shows in the mail. Best. Uncle. Ever.
They are: Tacoma, Washing 8-26-88 "Willie Nelson's Picnic" Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City 7-1-78 Stanford University Frost Ampitheatre 10-9-82 He was at the first two. Iko Iko is on of them. I also downloaded Crosby, Garcia, Hart and Lesh 12-15-70. |
Okay, for those of you that have iTunes, when you open click on start and my music, you see your "iTunes" folder with all your music in it. Then I have a folder that says previous iTunes libraries. Is it okay to delete that or is it important? Thanks for all the help. I've saved quite a bit of space already.

Depends. If you use iTunes to play music, then don't delete it. If you use Winamp like me, then you can. It is a duplicate of albums that you have on your desktop/wherever. |
also downloaded Crosby, Garcia, Hart and Lesh 12-15-70
Send? I downloaded the Hamana album, it's a psychedelic folkrock album that this one Native American guy plays all the instruments and sings. Chris said it reminded him of Quicksilver Messenger Service, Neil Young, The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. |

What Jong said. I deleted mine and I had to import all my albums back into iTunes. They were still on my computer, but not in my library. |

I only have 1.89 gigs free, and normally i have less.
i need a new hard drive Did anyone like the Wakeman i sent out a while ago? |
I downloaded one of them, but then it wouldn't extract or something. When I tried to download the other one the link had expired.
EDIT: There was an article about Derek Trucks in The Wall Street Journal and it said that he's gonna be playing in Eric Clapton's band for his tour this year  I can't quite get my head around how amazing that's gonna be. I think he's gonna be on Conan tonight, as well. |
Are there any good live Santana recordings I should look into? I picked up the Santana & Buddy Miles Live! album and it shows some promise that Santana had it at live shows.
|
I've never really gotten into Santana, so I don't know what to tell you. I'm sure someone in this thread will be able to help you out though.
|
Meh anyone want Round About Midnight by Miles Davis?
We really need a new classic rock thread, this one is getting slow. |
