I don't like BTBAM or Sigur Ros. Never heard Arcturus.
|
Gary Numan - Hybrid
Faun Fables - Family Album |
I didn't know Arcturus had a new album coming out. Is it with Vortex (Simen Hestnaes, or whatever his actual name is) on vocals?
|

You might like Arcturus. Tangy hates them, but pretty much everyone else I've shown them to thinks they are cool. Here's an mp3 http://media.theendrecords.com/arcturus_crossedstar.mp3 All of their albums are different, the first is symphonic black metal, the second is just wierd and the third (the one the mp3 is from) is cool, I wouldn't know how to describe it. |

Yeah, Vortex is on vocals. I'm kind of skeptical of what it will be like without Garm, but we'll see. There are bad quality copies all over file sharing. I'm jsut going to buy it when it comes out. |
Here's something I've noticed for a long time about albums, and try to stay with me on this one:
Whenever a band releases two consecutive albums that are by and large considered to be masterpieces, the first album is almost invariably a bit more raw and maybe less defined, but it has a greater quantity of terrific songs. The second of these albums is usually a bit more polished and maybe even more popular (it sells more from riding on the wave of attention of that first album), but there aren't as many great tracks on it. Instead, that second album tends to flow better as a whole, and maybe one or two songs on it are better than anything on the first of the albums. Does anyone else notice what I'm talking about? The first time I really noticed it was with Aenima and Lateralus, just to use an example of a more popular band, but I'm sure it could apply to bands that I'm not familiar with as well. |
Pavement
|
Pinkerton was much more raw and harsh than the Blue Album. :p
But yeah, I definitely agree with that theory. While there's exceptions to every rule, I think in general that holds true for a quite a bit of bands. |
Good, because I was wondering if I should just make a new thread about it, but my thread in Alt/Indie always do so poorly :( :( :(
|
edit: Oh and speaking of br3ad's last post, the first two Pavement albums too.
Yeah that's what I was referring to. In other news, "Blue Turning Gray" is my favourite Clap Your Hands Say Yeah song. |
I dug:
Nick Cave DFA 1979 Fly My Pretties Whirlwnd Heat I also dug the Super Furry Animals. Those crazy welsh bastards. |
Today was basically:
QOTSA Fantomas |
Nice.
Early Fantomas I hope? |
Early Fantomas I hope?
:/ Suspended Animation. |
lately ive been totally digging "touch my bum" by the cheeky girls of romania, and the absolutely awe inspiring obscureness of malchic gai by tatu, who are also lesbians. :chug:
I also like loose vancouver |
Well, I'm really enjoying my birthday haul of albums. Sailing the Seas of Cheese by Primus is a lot of fun, as is Killers by Iron Maiden. However, I'm still trying to get into Let It Be by The Replacements. It's not immediately rewarding, but I'm pretty sure it will pay off eventually.
I wish they had Tim in stock :( |
I'm digging Sufjan Stevens' electronic album, Enjoy Your Rabbit.
|
Faith No More's rare and B-Side tracks are really good.
"Hippie Jam Song" is my favorite FNM song period. It combines loungy funk and hardrock in a perfect balancing mold only Patton and cohorts could pull off! |
The Creek Drank The Cradle by Iron & Wine. Yay for ye olde four track recorders.
|
I just noticed a small insignificant thing...Roger Waters' re-used the chirping birds from "Goodbye Blue Sky" in "Late Home Tonight, part I".
|
"An Angry Blade" from The Creek Drank The Cradle made me all tingly and for a second it gave my stomach that kinda in love/sick flippy feeling. I've never got that flippy feeling from a song before. :p
|
I forgot how great the Flaming Lips are...
Silly Silly, Jared. |

It's also true for the first two Oasis albums. I guess you could say it for the first two Smiths albums too. APC, maybe? I guess it works. Pixies - Wave Of Mutilation Otis Redding - The Dock Of The Bay And now Patti Smith - Horses The Dock Of The Bay is such a hard album to rate. The title track just dominates everything after it. Crumb hit the nail on the head in his review. |
Hmm..
Neko Case Blur MF Doom |
Been listening to Sign O the Times. I think I've been disappreciating this album. Still not as good as Purple Rain though.
|
Kid Carpet are awesome. The album was made using only really cheap keyboards. It's brilliant.

Sorry if you took that as an insult or something, just trying to help.
Oh yeah, I've been digging MF Doom (and all of his names), Aesop Rock, Blackalicious, and some more rap. |
Rap steady on! Kanye West and that's about it for me
