Get a boom, more options with them. I recomend TAMA RoadPros solid as hell :)hat aize K HYbrid?
|
plus the RoadPros can convert to straights if needs be. Pearl BC800W stands do this too,not the heaviest stand ever but will keep your china up splendidly.
|
alright that sounds good to me. im going to a place today to look around but im not sure what they'll have.

I'm after a 17" A Custom Crash. Where can I get one real cheap in the UK?
Thanks |

www.rockfactory.co.uk You may be able to find it cheaper, but only if it's on offer. Also, my recommendation would be to find a crash you like in a local store, then make them price match. You get the sound you want for the best price. |
Sorry, I forgot to mention. Rockfactory is out of stock and uk-cymbals isn't working. The store near me (music, not drum) wanted £350 for mastersounds....?
I have emailed two other sites which offer a price matching service but I need the cymbal for frieday!!! |
newcastle drum centre are pretty cool guys.

not bad with free next day deliv |
ok guys i made it up to the store yesterday to see what they had. they had a K custom 19" china for $473 but it was 40% off (idk why they just mark it down anyways cause thats the standard price of cymbals -.-) so it puts at right about $300 with tax unless I can get military discount. They also had a Avedis China Cymbal that was 16" I believe and a 16" oriental china trash. They were both about $170 after tax. Any of those sound good or do you really think a hybrid is what I'm looking for?
Also on splash cymbals: do you guys use a full stand or do you use clamps and what not? I saw a thing called the claw that hook to a rack tom to hold a splash. Anyone know anything about them? The reason I asked is b/c they had A custom 6" splash as well for about $60. |

No idea why they decided to do that, but that's their call. Oh, and £350 for Mastersounds is worthy of petrol bombing their house and killing their children. Beyond them, things get more expensive quite quickly. I mean beyond the two I mentioned. And as far as I can tell, ADC Drums seem to be the next cheapest. |

The hybrid was just a suggestion. Don't take it as gospal troof, but it's jus getting you going. There are plenty of chinas out there to suit your needs. I always mount splashes on cymbal boom arms. It's just the way i do it, but it's a lot cheaper and they do the job just fine. I havn't heard of a claw but it sounds fine,or just get an arm and clamp to attach to a cymbal stand. 6" may be a little flimsy and weak for your musical needs, but again, if you've tried it and you like it then go for it! |

I just don't know much about chinas but I really want one. I'm tempted to just go after a splash for now and wait on the china. I've still got a lot to learn though. I wasn't really considering the 6" cause it had no sound to it all @_@ but it just got me thinkin about the splashes. What are some other good sounding chinas? Also on interenet recordings are they that much different from irl? srry for the newb question :thumb: |
Ok, thanks. I've emailed a few to see if I can get the price beater. If not I shall go with ADC drums.

no worries :) dude, you don't really have to know that much lol. A lot of it is personal preferance, sound clips are a good starting point, they give you a general idea of the sound qualities, but to really know what a cymbal is like you should go and try some out at your local drum shop. Every cymbal is different and some sound clips can be waayy off. The sound clips on sites should give you a decent indication of what weight and size cymbal you like and then you can take it from there. That's how i found the hats i really want. I would personally look into a china if i was you. probs 18" so it's not too loud for other styles of music you play. Paiste 2002,sabian AAxplosion chinas are nice imo. |
^ that helps! im kinda looking into staying with the zlidjian brand. mixing different zildjians doesnt bother me at all but completely different brands is weird to me. lol idk im weird like that i guess. but i was really looking to staying with zildjian. i was thinking a 17" or 18" as well. when i do get to try a cymbal out where all spots on the china should i hit it? i mean i know you can hit it like a crash or you can use it as a ride etc. sorry im really ineducated about them @_@

Hi I'm not a regular in the forums, but now I am in desperate need of help. I have being saving money to buy new cymbals and now that I have it I can´t decide between meinl's amun or sabian's Xs20. so if any one can help giving me pros and cons of the cymbasl or what should I get, I will apreciate it a lot. Thanks.
|
Well, the Sabian XS20's are pretty decent cymbals, but you might wanna save up even more and buy high-end cymbals. Whether they be high-end Sabians, Zildjians, Paistes, or Meinls, you can't go wrong with them. Most of the high-end models will end up beign more versatile and acoustically pleasing. What I suggest is save up money, buy a pair of good hi-hats and a ride and then go from there. I'd also get a medium weight ride with good crashability so it can be used for a crash if absolutely needed. Then after those, maybe add on a crash or two and then the rest from there. But you won't regret getting high-end cymbals, you could easily regret spending all your money on lower end cymbals and then feel like you want to upgrade. Also, go and try the cymbals out, listen to them, play them with your own sticks, see if the staff will let you put them on a set to play, think about it, then make your decision. Good luck!
|
thanks man, I'm nothing near a pro player, i do play in a couple of bands. the thing is high end cymbals are really expensive to get here in Guate. I do own a ride and hihats (sabian B8) so right now in my possibilities is either the Meinl-Amun or the Sabian-Xs20. I'm planing to get a china, splash and a crash.
|
Alright man, it's your money, but they are worth the price.
|
but what should I choose :( !?!?!?
|
I know nothing about Meinl so get the XS20's?
|
ok guys ive talked it over with my band buddies and kinda got a list of songs were going to play so maybe it might help you guys help me find a general direction. We will be playing stuff such as: Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Default, Shinedown, Maroon 5, Stone Sour, RHCP??, Tenacious-D, and Cold Play. Those aren't set in stone but its a more general idea than just rock etc. I have a lesson today so I'm going to talk to my teacher as well. Hopefully I can get to a store soon and try some more out.
edit: this has nothing to do with the above but when I bought my kit it came with the pearl hats and the crash/ride. right now they're sitting under my bed. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what i might be able to do with them. The hi-hats actually have a pretty good sound and I like them but the crash/ride is a piece. It's ok to crash on i guess but it sucks as a ride. LOL but anyways anything I can do to make a cheap effect cymbal etc.? I was thinking rivets or something. |
I'm looking for a ride with a nice, big, cutting bell. The ride noise itself is secondary to the awesomeness of the bell. I've looked at Zildjian's stuff (crap for the most part, but you gotta love that Ping Ride :p) and Sabian's (quite nice, actually, for that kinda thing, especially in the HH/HHX series), but nothing's quite right. Knowing little about any other brand, your help would be much appreciated.
:chug: Edit: to fastlane... if you can think of it, you can do it. Stacks are always fun to try. ;) |
Doesn't paiste have a 24" Mega bell ride or something? Sounds pretty promising to the sound you are looking for.
|
yea theres something called a mega bell but im not sure what the brand of it is.
edit: heres a few links http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Zildjian-Z-Custom-Mega-Bell-Ride?sku=441297 http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemID=39747&ovchn=YAH&ovcpn=Yahoo+SSP&ovcrn=39747&ovtac=PI&AffiliateID=330 paiste has a 2oo2 mega bell ride but i couldnt find one |
Yarg, I know of that Z Custom big bell. The sounds clips on Zildjian's page sounded fugly, but I'll still try it out at some point.
That Meinl cymbal looks awesome. o_O must...find...sound...clips... Holy crap that thing sounds awesome. Now I just need to find a store in Winnipeg that sells Meinl. >_< |
Meinl is always a good option.
|
^^ glad i could help. that meinl looks really good too :P
|
Sound Caster's always looked like cheap cymbals to me, but I've never played any of them. Are they pro level cymbals?
