I would say you should probably get them all except Spiritual Healing and Individual Thought Patterns.

*gasp* my favorite death album! Spiritual Healing is a waste of time. If you dig that older sound, SBG and Leprosy are much better. |
*gasp* my favorite death album!
Spiritual Healing is a waste of time. If you dig that older sound, SBG and Leprosy are much better.
Spiritual Healing isn't the older sound, though, it's in between the old sound and the middle-era sound. It's their transition album and subsequently their least interesting one. |
It does have hints of Human in it, but I always thought of it as an older sound. The only songs I really think is cool on that album are "Living Monstrosity" and "Genetic Reconstruction".
|
I guess for me Human > Leprosy > Symbolic > Scream Bloody Gore > SOP > ITP > SH.
|
I hate the Sound of Perseverance. Every song follows the same goddamn formula.
SBG ftw |
His vocals on Leprosy are the best.
OPPPPPPPENNNNNNNN CASSSSSSKEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTT |
I hate the Sound of Perseverance. Every song follows the same goddamn formula.
SBG ftw
TSOP is pretty basic in terms of songwriting, but the riffs on that album are just soooo damn good. The first four tracks are some of the band's best ever. |
That album bores me to tears. It's way too predictable.
|
Christy isn't too good either.
|
Christy is great at the style he's playing.
|
I don't care too much for Death tbqh, especially not older Death (vocals annoy me there).
ok you've said some dumb stuff before, but wow.
Spiritual Healing isn't the older sound, though, it's in between the old sound and the middle-era sound. Christy is awesome. See Spirit Crusher for proof. Or hell, the entire album.
|
Leprosy = TSOP = ITP > Human > SBG > Symbolic > Spiritual Healing for me.
That's damn near exactly my preference as well.
I hate the Sound of Perseverance. Every song follows the same goddamn formula.
Every Death song followed the same formula from Human on. Long verse > Prechorus > Chorus > Weird part > Solo > Long verse > Prechorus > Chorus > End |
Christy is great at the style he's playing.
Meh, I prefer Hoglan |
Hoglan was Death's best drummer for sure... he is ****ing incredible on ITP, the speeds he hits on his double kicks are mind-blowing in certain spots.
As for Chuck's vocal work, I'd have to say that Leprosy is his best then Symbolic and TSOP is his worst... especially on the Painkiller cover. |

SBG ftw
yeah the sound of perseverance gets pretty annoying after a few songs |
Meh, I prefer Hoglan
Of course Hoglan's better, but RC is pretty ****ing good. |

Comparing Hoglan and Christy isn't really fair at all, though. Hoglan is more precise and refined while Christy is flashy as ****.
|
And he likes to pull his penis out on Howard Stern.
|

very good point. I happen to actually enjoy the drumming quite a bit on Leprosy as well. Bill Andrews goes into these slow breaks at points and then just explodes with intensity. |
For once I think DiGiorgio has good bass tone too, in Death.

Human really bores me for whatever reason. Reading Death lyrics has basically become a ritualistic habit for me now. I think Leprosy lyrics are my favorite at the moment... Approach the image filled with fear As the image grows so clear Future now takes full control The one whose past you now behold Touch - The flesh it is so cold Turn away - You now have been told Never to return, memories will last In the future, you'll think about the past Never to forget, what you have seen People come to pay respect Taking pictures of the dead That is what life comes to be Once they lived, now they're deceased Death is oh so strange The past no one can change What you can't predict Is how long you'll exist Open casket - Open casket Life will never be the same Death can never be explained It's their time to go beyond Empty feeling when they're gone Never to return, memories will last In the future, you'll think about the past Never to forget, what you have seen What can not be real you now believe |
during the "death is oh so strange" part a ****ing great riff is in the back, i like how the bass kicks sound on that part.
|
That song is a riff monster.
That intro riff.... |
That song is a riff monster.
That intro riff....
The entire Leprosy CD is a riff monster. My favorites are on Pull The Plug, Left To Die, Open Casket and Leprosy. I just got the original hard copy version of Leprosy (from Battle Records). Chuck looks like such a faggot on the art in the sleeve. |
i think that cover was supposed to be a bit "over the top" though. i love his vocals on human.
If by "over the top" you mean "couldn't carry a tune in a bucket" then yeah, that's Chuck's cover of Painkiller. As much as I love Death and I love Judas Priest, I hate that cover. |
For real mang? I luv it.
|
Chuck's voice sounds awful... he sounds like a constipated power metal vocalist who has been smoking way too much lately and is trying to scream his lungs out.
LEPROSY WILL TAKE CONTROL AND BRING YOU TO YOUR DEATH |
I love that cover. It was the first Death I heard.
|
Zombie Ritual was the first Death I heard. Along with Phobophile it was one of my first exposures to death metal.
|
I love that cover. It was the first Death I heard.
agreed. the first death i heard was pull the plug. |
First Death I heard was the entire Sound of Perseverance album. I gotta admit that TSOP was a really good hook/intro to Death, but since then I've recognized that it's definitely not Death's best.
|
I bought TSOP, and went to Painkiller first. I was like "zomg Chuck has a crazy voice"
|
Ugh, you people are crazy.
HERE *screech* COMES *screech* THE *off-key* PAINKILL *trail off* His vocals were much better earlier in his career. |
I'd have to say that Bite the Pain is easily my favorite song off of TSOP... Scavenger of Human Sorrow comes in at a close second though. Not to mention that Bite the Pain has some of my favorite Death lyrics included in it...
Not a drop of blood is drawn But you know how it bleeds Beware of the sharp edged weapon Called human being |
I LIKE the vocals on it because they're so intentionally comical. @ Jason

I your opinion, Lee. |
