Like I mentioned, just to relax you. To create atmospheres, you know? Not to analyze instrumental skill, variation, etc.
Eh, I prefer other bands to do that for me /listens to Agalloch right now in fact

They try so hard to be unsettling too I don't know how relaxing it can be...
Thursday's Full Collapse can be played as many times as possible and I never get bored of it.

It wouldn't disintegrate too much, I don't think. I think it would come down almost intact.

I got bored of it after a few weeks, mehr.

About the same, going to the lab soon to write my report :-\

Eh, think of the speed and the air friction, and the travel time. I think a lot of it would disintegrate.
Sunn O))) are really good if you're high. Other than that, I find them very boring. And even if you're high, techno is much trippier, so Sunn O))) is useless then too.
I never will be high though.
Can't you just let someone like a band without being hypercritical of everything?
Yes.

In that case I was actually curious though :-\ gg on reading it wrong
Hahaha, well put. There are a couple interesting bands but a lot of it is people writing really unappealing music for the sake of being indie. And I hate when people only listen to indie and act like their so superior because indie is seen as like this mature genre.
YES YES YES. If i mention anything non-indie to some poeple around here they roll their eyes. I actually had one girl tell me that thursday just 'made music to get into the big new fad of having black hair'. I didnt bother to say anything about her Killers shirt, or how thursday have been around for 4 albums.

Yeah, like the singer for this screamo band around here called Ariadne, he went off to college in Philly and now he listens to like exclusively indie. I used to talk to him all the time about screamo bands and hardcore/metalcore. I recently told him about how I was going to see Thursday and he told me that he hated them now, even though they were his favorite band before. Like, I know alot of kids that have gotten into indie but don't try to erase their "immature" musical past. Those kids I don't mind.

Pazz 04-20-2006 01:34 PM

Is it just me, or did the font on MX change?

Um, I just calculated roughly 35k meters neglecting air resistance so that's no good :-\

I like Indie but not that much. Some bands are really good and others can be boring. Like any genre.

bottlerocket 04-20-2006 01:35 PM

Indie music snobs ftw.

Vince: If it's 35k without air resistance, wouldn't it be like 28-30k with air resistance? Air isn't really THAT dense...I've seen bigger bulk moduli.

I can stand indie, but I won't usually listen to it.

On a side note, new Goo Goo Dolls is pretty good

Yeah, i wouldnt care as much if everyone didnt try to deny what they listened to before. All the fake little scene kids at my school that are weird and worship me because i guess i find music thats not on fuse or what have you, got freaked out because i said that Cheshire Cat by Blink 182 was a good album.

I'm gonna go be nasty and eat fast food. Ill be back in 15 minutes.

No, a demo for "Sleepers". Cove's voice sounds amazing in it, best song I've heard him sing.

New album is out in October, so don't anticipate a leak anytime soon

No wai. Indie music crowds are not fun at shows :-\

Probably. But that puts the bullet a good portion of the way towards weather balloons, to say nothing of above the height of airplanes. If that were the case I'm sure there would be regulations about shooting guns into the air.

Aren't there?

Also I think it's very interesting how audience involvement at concerts has changed from just sitting and listening to being expected to dance and rock out the whole time.

I wasn't aware of any regarding small arms. I know there are on larger, more powerful weapons though.

Well I mean if I go to a symphony or something I still go to sit and listen. There are some shows I go to with the intention of just sitting and watching, but there are also high-energy shows where you go to have fun and dance the whole time. I have no problem going to shows and sitting the whole time if I expect it but going to a show I'm all set to rock out to and encountering a dead audience is disappointing. A lot of Indie fans seem to have this attitude where it doesn't even seem like they're enjoying the music, they're just judging as they listen. It's not fun.

Well it's just funny because there's always been dance bands, but it's always been stuff you can really easily dance to. With some of the rock bands nowadays, it's not always so easy to dance to, but it seems to be expected now. I'm thinking that leads to a lot of the boring shows, the fact that there's an expection that just shouldn't be there. And the judging attitude is in no way exclusive to indie kids- half the people in this thread have had that attitude about bands on multiple occasions.

Untitled 04-20-2006 01:58 PM

I have some money, £20 whole pounds, which im goign to go spend in the pub, not had money for the pub in a while, itll be fun.

Night all.

Kif 04-20-2006 02:00 PM

When I go to gigs, I generally stay near the middle of the room. You can dance and jump and not look like an idiot like if you were doing it at the back, and you don't get your head kicked in right up at the front. It all depends on the band I'm seeing really though. I've been upfront for several bands, some I loved and some I thought were OK, and most of the time the latter wasn't fun at all.

Gnarmageddon 04-20-2006 02:03 PM

I hate being in front at shows. People push you up against the bar and try to fight for positions there. The best spot is usually to the left or right of the pit, near the front.

I see what you did there.

No but I don't think it's the same. I mean, I hate Underoath on CD, but I still had a great time at their live show dancing with all the kids who liked their music. Shows are a great opportunity to just let loose.

I suppose it is odd to expect dancing at a show, but I mean, I'd dance to it not at a show, so why not when I'm at it? If it's music I can't envision dancing to, I don't.

Agree'd. The very front in the middle is lame. Plus I'm little so I get squished.

cbmartinez 04-20-2006 02:07 PM

I love getting up front. I was like 5 feet for Thursday and Poison The Well. I chilled off to the side for Thrice which is nice because you don't have to deal with the pushing/swelling but Dustin came down in the front for TAAATD and I wish I had been up there.

what

Yeah, I was just commenting on how it's changed. It's really interesting.

Mute Print 04-20-2006 02:09 PM

I like being at the front for hardcore, because I'm afraid of the pit, and would rather take part in the sing-a-longs. :p

At small shows I stand where ever, but at bigger shows I stay away from the front so I don't get crushed.

Just since earlier you were commenting on how critical I am of bands :p

It is.

I usually end up at the front during shows because I'm small so I can't stay in the pit easily. I fly through it :-\

I'm only mean to the kids I know well. There were actually a few noobs in here a couple nights back and I was worried everyone would be mean to them even though I was being nice. Luckily everyone was on good behavior :)

But Joel you're just too nice for all of us. Basically.

B 04-20-2006 02:15 PM

I'm mean and critical. But more of peoples opinions than the band themselves.

Meh. I usually do it for the sake of arguement anyways.

Mute Print 04-20-2006 02:16 PM

I'm somewhat critical of bands. People can listen to whatever they want.

Permanent Solution 04-20-2006 02:20 PM

People can do whatever they want.

Just like with the drug talks, I can tell everyone here not to do drugs, but at the end of the say it's their choice and all I can provide is my opinion on the issue. Same thing for bands.

B 04-20-2006 02:22 PM

I just like arguing. I can't spell the actual word though.

:)

I was invited to go with a friend and smoke up this afternoon but lucky for me I can't due to work. It pisses me off to no end though because I really wanted to go chill with her.

Permanent Solution 04-20-2006 02:23 PM

Go chill with her when she's not smoking. Even more fun for all.

It is more fun when she's not smoking, but she was, and she invited me, but I can't, so it doesn't matter.
