So it's a musical concept. Interesting take, although I generally think of concept albums being concepts based on lyrical content, not musical content.
Well, think of it as an unspoken gesture towards equality. Actually, I don't know where I'm going with this... it's really early in the morning. :p |
Uhh... every song does have a concept.
Not every ... But I ment albums ;) |
i beleive that part of the song was actually subtitled "whales in labour"
If you're referring to when I said that a page back, I was making it up  |

I would guess that that was probably the idea when they were writing it. A musical-concept album would be something to turn heads, even if not many people took it that way. |
I like your theory Moaner. I always knew there was more to Meddle than I thought, but I couldn't quite figure it out. Definitely their one of their most subtle concept albums. Whether or not that actually is what Pink Floyd meant to accomplish doesn't matter anyway, it's an amazing album regardless.

Don't feel bad moaner, you know what, that's what we'll call it from now on. It comes up enough, it ought to have an ifficial name.
tehfloydnoob102: God, I hate that whales in labour part of Echoes. BigTrav415: Die.
Yep, I like it :) |

absolutely |
Wow, that is a good theory. How did you think this up?
|
I don't agree, you say it's a concept album 'cause it has many styles in it ... Well morre albums have that ... Than I think a top 20 cd, is also a concept album 'cause it also has many styles on it
8-) not ... :P |

8-) not ... :P
I guess you could look at as a musical menagerie of thoughts, ideas and concepts uniting as one. Hence, we could consider it a metaphor for the real world, and therein lies the concept for the album. Eg: All the previous tracks showcase the good points of each style or thought, and Echoes proves how they can all stand together, united and sounding great. EDIT: Does anyone know when U2 released With or Without You? It's been bugging my constantly that it sounds an awful lot like Take It Back at certain points. |

Yes, but with music there maybe are some thoughts, but those thoughts don't come from the music but from the lyrics, the music only make the lyrics stronger
Thanks! Hehe, for a vocalist and lyricist (primarily), I actually place more importance on music than lyrics. But yes, I can take your point, and reverse it slightly ;) and come up with lyrics reinforce the music's message. |

I don't think it's a concept at all. You guys think WAY to deeply into this concept business. Sorry to be the one that points this out but I just think you guys get way too obsessed with concepts. You guys are alright to say Animals, DSoTM, the Wall and Wish You Were Here are all concepts but I don't think you're on to something with Meddle. Good thinking though. :p

You shut your mouth! :p |
I have Echoes playing on repeat in my head right now. Specifically the part before the first lyrics, with Gilmour's bluesy, slow guitar and Mason's reverse cymbal crashes... you know, the slow part. I can't get it out of my head :(

Oh, and has anyone ever heard of this book?

No, but it looks cool. |
One of These Days is like the greatest song ever. Random, but true. Sorry for this pointless post, but Gilmour's slide solo just completely blew me away for like the 100th time.
np- One of These Days |

np- Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 I'm liking DSOT more and more the more I hear it. At first I thought it was nowhere near as good as Pulse. I still don't think it's as good as Pulse, but after repeated listens, I've decided it's awesome and right below Pulse. Edit- I think the version of Comfortably Numb off of DSOT is the best version that I have ever heard. The whole 2nd disc of DSOT is fucking amazing. |

Floyd's underrated epic. Lucky 7's. |
SOYCD underrated? Yeah, it probably is, but it's still one of the most renowned PF songs, I'd say. One of my personal faves for sure.
|
I meant the second (6-9) part. 1-5 certainly gets enough credit.

What does DSOT stand for? I'm sorry, I should know this.
|
Ugh DSoT. The filming is horrible. I prefer Pulse, and the Volcano relief concert versions of CN.
|
DSOT, all I have is the VHS, its pretty good.
|
Don't have the CD or film version of DSOT :( I really want to get LAP as well, I'll get that first.
|
I dont have LAP either, I have the audio for it though.
|
The dvd is awesome. You guys should buy it immediately.
|
I dont have LAP either, I have the audio for it though.
You have just the audio? Dude, you should send that out! |
Someone made a "wots uhhh the deal" thread in Teh Pit
|
Can someone upload the Divison Bell and YSI it to me at inevergiveyoumymoney@gmail.com ?
It would be much appreciated. :) |
Aaron - I'll upload it tomorrow, unless someone's already done it by then.
|
