yeah it is quite a pleasant surprise, but if they are a hardcore/punk band with DIY ethics then its really not cool to play a show for money. and what kind of venue has 500 dollars to give to a band? what the hell??
My friends band made $1000+ every show they played due to how many people they brought and how much money they made for the venue. |

Holy s'hit, that's nuts. |
that's a lot of people or really expensive tickets
If my band covers petrol money its a success. I guess we need to go to America.
hahaha, most bands here are happy to get paid gas money too. even the popular level-plane bands don't get paid that much.
hell i think i'd have trouble taking that much money
Yeah seriously, rich ass cali fuckers. Most of the shows my band plays are benefit shows and the one time we did get paid, it was $12. Not each, $12 collectively. 500 dollars for three songs? What the fuck is that. I make that much working for 3-4 weeks. Play another show like that and you can be buying a fucking half stack.

Ampere next week according to this handwritten piece of **** flyer. Tight.
Who are Sinaloa? |
Really good band.
yeah sinaloa own, and their split lp with ampere is available from Ebullition as of today.
Whoa, I want.
piano in emo is really cool
i wish i was better and more knowledgable at piano playing |
i play a lot of piano, just messing around though. i don't care much for form/technique, i just f.ucking play. its a lot of fun.
I mistated what I said. I'm sorry I should have been clearer. We sold $535 worth of tickets. The venue pays each band according to how many tickets they sell and how many people show up for them. The venue then takes $200 out of what you made. So we made ourselves $335. Its still pretty good for a band's first show. Its a small venue. About 3/4 or so the size of Chain Reaction. We had more people come out for us than for any other band that played with us that night. And we played with the biggest/most popular band in the city/area. Once again I'm sorry for causing the confusion.
That's still weak as hell.
We're gonna bring a lot more people to our next show. We just need to get our butts in the studio.
Thanks. I know how you feel just that my situation was easier. In my band everyone else goes to a different school than me and 3 of the guys live in other cities. It some ways its an adantage. But it also makes things harder with rides and such. I'm just really happy right now.
I've known 4 members of the band for less than 1 moth and a half.
Hahahaha, I bet that sounds real interesting.

My band finally got rid of our guitarist (he quit), so now were having trouble looking for a new one. I finally get to stop playing his corny-a'ss atreyu sh'it.
I'm really glad all of you guys are in bands. I've been going to private school since 6th grade so there is such a narrow range of people to choose from in terms of musical taste and instrumental ability. I've never really had the opportunity to be in a real band (reference: DRACULACORE) and have had to do it all myself (reference: Greer, Prime Meridian), so it's tight to see a proliferation of tight music through people I hope to influence/help/support through this unusually personal forum.
I know how it is not having a lot of people to choose from. Everyone around here who is in a band is doing either a The Strokes or Bullet For My Valentine type stuff which really sucks. I don't mind the Strokes (I love them actually) but I wouldn't want to play their style of stuff. But luckily I am getting a drum machine and I have one buddy who plays guitar so I might be doing something in the near future. |
Pay for a bus ticket, and give me a place to stay, and I'll play with your band.
haha |
hahaha, one day maybe. currently i think i might jam with a couple comadres down where I'm at currently, which is my dad's down in clemson, south carolina.
Dfelon, i go to a private school too, and no one there is even familiar with hardcore or punk rock at the least. I have yet to meet anyone besides my bandmate who is into similar music...and we can't find a drummer/bassist. So yeah, its very frustrating growing up in an area where there are no musicians. I don't consider En Medias Res to be a "real" band either because we do like so many instruments ourselves to make up for our lack of people, so we can't really do shows and stuff.
No one is into hardcore in Dublin and no one is a musician, or a semi-decent one atleast. It's incredible. I'm the only person here who listens to hardcore, besides a few scenesters who know some of the popular hardcore bands.
The guitarist of icecreamxcore doesn't even dig hardcore. |
lolzach
exeter has like a few kids who like some emo but really no one is into it
none except for some who know like ctts, orchid, and pg. 99. and none of them even listen to them. but the red scare was from knoxville (10 mins away) and sadville is 30 minutes away and no one knows who they are really.

Zach fails dude. |
dude he really does
i think that there's probably a lot of people who listen to emo in massachusets, considering the amount of bands that come out of there
i think i'm gonna try to go to college in mass so much cool stuff down there |
I was able to play in an emo band for about two months before we disbanded.
The stupid drummer stopped showing up. He said he was inspired by From First to Last. That was a bad sign from the start. I saw a sweet band this weekend, helloRomeo, and they were tight. I really wanna do this kind of band, but decent drummers are hard to come by. I'll just settle for the pop-core/post-hardcore band I'm in. |

don't you want to punch people who say "music is like candy, you throw away the rappers."
Never heard that before. Those people are probably complete ignorant to the underground rap scene. And even if they weren't, and had listened to it, the least you can give is respect.
sometimes i wish i had a radio show
would be cool some of my friends do but they just play sorta hyped up indie, not my cup of tea but not bad at all i guess |
