Whoops. I guess I need to read more :p

'Afternoon, gents. Could anybody reccomend me a modern day equivalent to one of them there 70s swish cymbals? Or at least a 20" china that's good for riding and would work well with rivets drilled in?

Iskandar 07-14-2007 03:42 PM

I thought Zildjian still made China Swishes.

oliv_da_skinmasher 07-14-2007 03:44 PM

they do

Vannaroth 07-14-2007 05:12 PM

The only thing I've found is a so called "Swish knocker" which only comes in 22" size. So far I think I'm gonna go for a 20" A high china and put some rivets in it.

What exactly is the use / sound of a swish cymbal? Any songs use it etc?

MeaninglessPhoto 07-15-2007 11:23 AM

Well. Zildjian DOES make Swish Knockers and Swishes, but it is really hard to find modern swishes for sale. Ebay would be your best bet to find one.

A china that could work well would be a China High/Low because that is basically what a Swish Knocker is, just with a shitload of rivets.

With rivets they have a nice wispy, sizzling kind of sound and can also be used for alternative rides. One can be heard being crashed in "Limelight" by Rush in the chorus.

But like Meaningless said I think I'll get a 20" china high and stick about 10 or so rivets in it

Good plan ;)

It might also save you some money as well.

The A chinas are really nice in any case... I want to get one, either that or the oriental, but I can only find the china trash rather than the classic, and they only have about 2% sustain.

spirit 07-17-2007 08:04 AM

You could special order one.

Just a thought.

drummguy731 07-17-2007 12:46 PM

You guys know what china Vinnie was using when he played at Modern Drummer in 2000? It doesn't look like an Oriental, but I'm not sure. Thanks..

Plan B. 07-17-2007 02:46 PM

drummguy731 07-17-2007 03:57 PM

Plan B. 07-17-2007 07:58 PM

drummguy731 07-17-2007 08:00 PM

Yeah, I think. Do you have any pics of yours? It'd help me compare. I really love that sound though.

Plan B. 07-17-2007 08:42 PM

I need some help. Im looking into getting a 10" splash, with a bright sound, durable for playing rock or metal. Any Meinl series, thanks.
