That is a pretty slick song. I tried for about a half hour to learn the lead on guitar, and made almost no progress. There is seemingly no basic pattern to it, but he makes it sound so good.
He makes everything sound good. Just his warm acoustic tone coupled with Grapelli's soaring violin leads; mh! perfection.

Today would have been George Harrison's 63rd birthday.

Thanks for ruining my day, fag. Now I'm depressed. Well, I'll just hold onto the fact that I'll be honoring his memory by going like 5 hours tomorrow in GuitarCenter without food or water.

Huh? what does this mean?

I can only imagine how great a rendition of Happy Birthday! he would get.

Seafroggys 02-24-2006 10:51 PM

haven't posted much in here recently, since all the talk's been about groups I literally know nothing about (or ever heard of, for that matter).

Anyways, I was listenin' to the radio today, and they played some Heart. I was thinking "Man, they're good, she's got a great voice, they got some good tunes..." then I wondered if they have ever been discussed throughorly in here.

Against Miik! 02-24-2006 10:57 PM

Alright, I'm sending as we speak.

Heart: the only real discussion I've heard on them is about how baracuda sounds just like Achillies Last Stand.

PinkFreud 02-24-2006 11:35 PM

thanks man. i appreciate it.

Yeah she can really wail. Anne Wilson I think it is?...I don't know that much about them, but I know a couple of their songs and I really like them. They've got some killer guitar riffs too. I love the intro to "Crazy on You."

EDIT: Hey I learned something new today:

Morrison wrote the lyrics to Hello I Love You in a single night, referring to the girl as the "dusky jewel". The song received some criticism at the time for its resemblance to The Kinks' 1965 hit "All Day and All of the Night". Ray Davies, lead singer of the Kinks, sued the Doors for stealing the rhythm of "All Day and All of the Night"

The similarities are mostly in the triplet-strums.

I've got a couple Heart albums and I think my mom has their greatest hits CD...but I don't listen to them much. I think they are a talented band, and people mainly look down on them because the singer is female but they have some great guitar riffs and solos and their songs are usually pretty catchy. That's all I gotta say.

edit - And the Doors fact is old news. Heh heh. About 40 years old! Haha but I'm just kidding. Him and Robbie were on a bridge in Paris overlooking a river or beach or something and a super hot girl walked by. That is the dusky jewel Leppermessiah and Jim are talking about. I bet she was super hot.

Yeah I know, the article I was reading mentioned that, but I just didn't include that in the quote because I was more interested in the Ray Davies thing.

i might be getting a Robert Plant show from last year that he plays A House Is Not A Motel :)

So yesterday my band recorded one of our songs (if you can consider it a song) it was a 15 minute jam and the only singing was me doing the "oh-we-oh" thing from Wizard Of Oz :p me and the drummer each have a couple solo's its pretty sweet

Does anyone like Mountain? I downloaded a live album of theirs off one of the blogs and it's awesome. Leslie West is a great guitarist. He has so many awesome solos on here. Really great heavy blues-rock, kind of like a heavier Cream or Ten Years After. Mountain's bassist, Felix Papperaldi produced Cream so they're pretty similar to Cream. They also jam on Nantucket Sleighride for 30 something minutes:eek:

np: Mountain- Mississipppi Queen

Hey Freud, did you get that album? I'm not sure it sent correctly so I could do it again.

BludgeonySteve 02-25-2006 01:26 PM

Just to let you all know, the Jeff Healey and Tom Cochrane concert was excellent last night. Probably the best show i've ever seen Healey do.

Jeff Healey is coming to Regina soon and I wouldn't mind going, but it's at the Casino so I can't get in until I turn 18. Tom Cochrane always comes around here...but he's another one of those Casino playing jerks. I never get to see anyone good.

Glitterati 02-25-2006 01:47 PM

My dad is (probably) taking me and my mom to see Gordon Lightfoot this September.

I remember learning the intro to Crazy On You on guitar...I've seen her play it live on TV and she can play it twice as fast as I can. It's amazing. She's probably one of the best female rock guitarists (out of all 4 of them haha).

edit - Gordon Lightfoot would be sweet.

i got it. thanks man. gotta wait for my wireless to be fixed before i can download it though.

tim bogert is an amazing bassist.

I think Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers is one of the most overlooked albums ever. It's amazing. The song Wasted Sunsets is alone worth checking out.

My mom is a huge Heart fan, I've never been that into them though.

i'm not a huge fan of perfect strangers but i think burn is really overlooked. coverdale is no gillan but blackmore and paice both play unbelievably good.

Definitly go see either of them if you get the chance. Of course I don't think that you need me to tell you to ;)
