Don't fell so bad. I have been playing for around 20 years and most of you could kick my *** in technical ability. :p

Aaron 11-07-2006 07:24 PM

I've been playing for 6 years now and have trouble with doubles! I just do two singles.

so today after school, a few friends and i went to javalina's (coffee) and somehow started a secret meeting.

Starting on monday, a game will start involving the school. This will be announced during the beginning of school. There are several groups of people: Mafia, Cops, Civilians, and Angels. Mafias goal is to emilimate all the civilians. Civilians goal is to try and find out who the mafia are, and contact the cops to get rid of them. Cops are known, mafia are in the dark. The angels try to save people. There are about 5 people in each catagory, excluding civilians. Everyone that isnt part of a group is a civilian.

Each week, the mafia give a list of 5 people and same goes for angels. Mafias 5 are to be killed, and angels 5 are to be spared. If someone from the mafia's list is found on the angels, then they are saved.

Bribes can be given to the "Don" of the mafia. They can either be used to reinforce their safety or be used to kill someone.

I think I got most of that correct, but weve thought through it. Any cool suggestions to our fund raiser?

EDIT: No real acts of violence actually occur.

We_Love_Lime 11-07-2006 08:40 PM

That's awesome Doom.
My school should do that...

But my friends don't have the attention span to pull it off.

ofDooM 11-07-2006 08:52 PM

So, I just signed up for time at the campus drum practice room. Now, I get there, and I find out that the person who owns the drums (thought they'd be school ones) doesn't want anyone to play them. :(

Elvin jones advised in his interview with MD "the first thing a learner should learn is the double stroke rudiment. after perhaps a year of dedicated practice
the student should be able to have a double stroke roll. After this a student has moved from being a student to having actual control over the instrument"

Berk 11-07-2006 10:25 PM

2x4.

I get to play a 6 piece Yamaha Custom Absolute Nouveau At this show next week.

I might turn down like 2 piece to be all travis barker.

Quinto 11-07-2006 10:25 PM

have you ever noticed that when you run hard for 20 minutes your calfs burn and you cant walk down stairs?

I find his statement there to be utterly incorrect. Being able to play a double stroke roll has little to do with controlling a drumset.

Considering that 70%+ of strokes made on a drumset are single rebound strokes AND those lil things called feet, essp the kit make up as much responsibility as the hands.

Elvin may be one of the finest jazz players, but he's deffinetly not a very good educator. I'd stick with what the great educators talk about.

Either way, after 6 years and not being able to play doubles.. one has to wonder - What have you been doing that whole time?

Berk 11-07-2006 10:44 PM

Uhh.

14"x7.5
24"x22"
12"x9"

I like fast tom sizes myself.

Win A Rabbit 11-07-2006 10:55 PM

I just got home from work. It was awesome. There was only 6 kids in all day, apparently it's been real dead lately.

We played pictionary for a while and I got to know 2 of the "regulars" and 2 of the "troublemakers", the ones that get kicked out almost every time they come in. Of course, one of them got kicked out tonight.

I love this job.

*shrugs* I'm a self-taught groover. My singles and triplets are fine, but doubles are lacking.
