I have also discovered I don't actually dislike eggs, even though I've thought I did since I was a little kid.
Isn't it funny when that **** happens? I thought I hated eggs, onions, and just about every veggie that would come on a supreme pizza, and now I like them all... :chug:

Upscaling if for fags.

I'm running it on my PC through an emulator, and forcing the *internal* resolution up. Which means its being internally rendered at 1080p native, and looks freakin awesome.

Also, FFXII? On a PS2 that **** looks weak, but the internal textures, are, for some reason, surprisingly detailed. Running it with the internal res pumped up to 1920x1080, I could easily mistake it for a first Gen 360 title (and a good one at that.), but for a few tiny hints here and there.

The point isn't that what came before is bad, its that what comes now is better. Why do people not get that about technology?

aargh i spent ****ing ages trying to get my comp to run ffxii zodiac job system but it's a dell and won't let me overclock from 2.4ghz.

which is a shame cause the q6600 is a pretty good cpu.

had no idea dell locked the bios like that. more fool me,

Blue_Moon 05-19-2010 05:23 PM

The real question is

are you buying it because you need it

or because it's new and you want to keep up with the jonses

I honestly think if you only replace AV equipment when the old one fails you don't go too far wrong

Dell lock their BIOS? Lame. The Q6600 is well known for being highly overclockable. Despite being 2.4 GHz officially, I've seen proof of it running 3.06 GHz, and stable.

Left Face Down 05-19-2010 07:51 PM

Most brand name companies lock you out of at least part of the BIOS. To get into advanced settings with my Sony you had to do some weird thing. If I remember correctly boot into BIOS, exit, pull the power when it was booting, plug it back in, and then it would let you go into options like OC'ing your CPU if you went into BIOS the boot after that. Though it would only do it for one boot.
Just had the worst exam I've ever had a few hours ago. Fuckng terrible.

Unfair, infact. They completely changed the format of the exam (without warning) and there were even mistakes in it. Entirely uneccesarily made it ridiculously hard for everyone.

Considering we've had 7 assignments over the last 2 weeks of lectures and no dedicated revision time before heading straight into exams, this is a fucking pisstake.
i hate that, in my strategic management class, the teacher made the first two exams multiple choice, but for no apparent reason she made the third one a short-answer. she told us like two days before the test she changed the format, and when we took the test, it was more like 7 essay-answer questions. goddamn sucked. i had to bullshit like 90% of what i wrote. got a 73% which i guess is better than i deserved.

also, for my accounting information systems class, the teacher never had a review day for the test, but he was always saying that it would be much simpler than the examples of stuff we go over in class during lectures. when test day came, not only was everything far different and more in-depth than what we covered in class, but it also drew things directly from the book that we never discussed in class.

tl;dr - tests suck but i dont need to take them anymore cos im done with uni

I'm buying it because I work for an AV retailer and get staff discount, combined with the fact I enjoy the difference.

So far my week's been goin good. Had a band come in to track drums, and we were hoping to maybe record "keepers" for an intro song they've got. Ended up knocking out 5 songs, 3 of them in a single take. Moods are high, and vibes are good. Wish it always went like this :thumb:
Q6600 is an amazing CPU, easily capable of 4ghz on a water cooled system and a good motherboard.

My next computer will be based around one, and my current gaming rig converted into a recording based rig.

Also, sup lod? It's my birthday today, I'm 23.

Sad But True 05-20-2010 10:06 AM

Happy birthday AG.

Lod, it's warm as hell and I can't find a single pair of shorts, so I've decided to just sit half in and half outside my window wearing only my underwear. I'm pretty sure I'm either going to score or get arrested.

i'm not very computer literate and i dont even know what the bios is installed on or if i can use the cpu in my dell as part of a new build

You realise I have a Q6600 in my cupboard, right?

Squirrel 05-20-2010 10:57 AM

The bios is just a piece of firmware use to test and initiate devises when you boot your machine.

really i have no idea what part of this comp makes it a dell. I'd love to be able to overclock the cpu, upgrade the graphics card and install more ram but i have no idea what i'd have to rip out to achieve that.

i realise the bios is a piece of firmware but i dunno what the chip is actually attached to

It's like playing with legos. No way for you to confuse the pieces, and as long as you don't force anything it's hard to go wrong. As long as your motherboard has PCI-e you're probably fine.

http://www.lavalys.com/products/everest-pc-diagnostics
This small download will tell you what you've got, if you want to plan on what to buy before you crack open the case... Although, I have had problems fitting parts into the smallish dell cases.

The motherboard. You don't need to be able to spot it if you are planning on flashing it tho, you do that with software, and as long as you follow the directions to a T you'll be fine

Yeah, as well as 2 mobos, an ATI graphics card, an Intel CPU heatsink, an external PSU and a case. Also got an IDE DVD drive installed in the Hackintosh that has no damn business being there, I just can't be bothered to take it out.

In short, I have most of another computer lying around. Forgot about the old school 15" TFT sitting not 3 feet from me.

I should really sell some of this ****.

Squirrel 05-20-2010 01:03 PM

Including laptops we've got about 7 machines in working order atm, got the components and stuff to build several more.

Soon to be 8 cause i'm probably gonna get a new desktop in the next few weeks.

Got about 5 broken laptops that need minor work but just not worth it.

Sup lod, today is the first day the weather has been nice in over a week, and it's going to rain again for the next 4 days...

Also, I'm excited that my music store has finally started selling individual strings so I don't have to order them from musiciansfriend anymore.
