hismajestythepope 03-11-2009 12:13 AM

theres no grind in that? maybe my concept of grind is shaky but most of the album is like this

it seems more focused towards the drumming in particular but idk help me understand

publicastration 03-11-2009 12:28 AM

naw that's just death metal idk why you would think that's grind :\

grind is more primitive and punk based

example:

Meatplow 03-11-2009 12:33 AM

i can hear the melodeath but a lot of the rhythm brings grind groups i've listened to like napalm death and circle of dead children to mind

its probably not a dominant influence though. only in shades

metal subgenres still confuse me

publicastration 03-11-2009 12:33 AM

Napalm Death and Circle Of Dead Children have a lot of death metal in their sound. (especially new Napalm Death).

Also grind is not really a metal genre at all so that's why it might be confusing. It makes a lot more sense if you look at it as an extreme subgenre of punk.

from least to most extreme at least the way I see it

pop/punk > punk rock > hardcore punk > crust punk > grindcore

The Feeding 03-11-2009 12:49 AM

that's prolly why there's a grind thread in the punk section, it makes sense to a point

Meatplow 03-11-2009 01:13 AM

interesting, okay

The Feeding 03-11-2009 01:27 AM

i never really though of grind as punk, i mean everything has different influnces. I still think grind has more in common with metal than punk. My opinion....

DBlitz 03-11-2009 01:30 AM

its just that grindcore has a death metal influence, but yea its belongs in the punk category.

The Feeding 03-11-2009 01:30 AM

that makes sense

TimJim 03-11-2009 09:08 AM
what album tho? my favorite is prolly Anomolies
Xenosapien

jrowa001 03-11-2009 11:25 AM
Admiral Angry are great but they're not in the slightest grind or screamo
Moon Flavor 03-11-2009 12:52 PM

luc doesn't think; he knows

Also, Xenosapien wooo

TimJim 03-11-2009 12:55 PM

also, fyi Morbid Angel is no good

HighandDriving 03-11-2009 01:16 PM

I've only really listened to Scum, just because it was such a landmark for grind.

I checked out some of the new NP and it sounded pretty good.

The Feeding 03-11-2009 01:19 PM

really Xenosapien? it had some good songs but i'm sticking with my vote

KILL FOR WEED!

Anomalies is the only album of their whole discography that I don't think is that good tbh...

And yeah never saw the big deal about Napalm Death either but I guess it's the same reason I don't see the big deal about Elvis

The Feeding 03-11-2009 01:25 PM

really? lucid interval was pretty sick tho. and i agree i'm not that big of a Napalm Death fan either...elvis was overrated, actually most music people think is life changing and essential idgaf about

HighandDriving 03-11-2009 01:25 PM

Elvis > Napalm Death

xMalcolmXx 03-11-2009 02:53 PM

i like napalm death :-( ?

The Feeding 03-11-2009 02:54 PM

EVERYONE does, except for me. Maybe i haven't listened to them enough to form a solid opinion...

FatalEnergy 03-11-2009 03:06 PM

Sounds like it

The Feeding 03-11-2009 03:07 PM

what makes them such an elite band? remind me what to listen for

HighandDriving 03-11-2009 03:20 PM

They're the godfathers of grindcore.

TimJim 03-11-2009 03:21 PM

yeah.

and thats about all theyre good for

The Feeding 03-11-2009 03:31 PM

i agree with the senority rules thing to a point

publicastration 03-11-2009 04:15 PM

Sludge?

I mean it's really slow.

the feeling is very punky but idk

I mean I call Dystopia crust but that's only because everything about them screams crust not really so with this band.
