I'll do it later if no-one else does, I've got to shoot to a gig in a minute.

fatbandit 10-13-2005 09:02 AM

Yeah, I can't gallop with a pick very well, especially with string skipping involved. Same story with The Four Horsemen. I can't play that riff with a pick very well either.
In Hook In Mouth, Dave says "As long as theres a P.M.R.C." What's a P.M.R.C.?
The PMRC was an organization in the 80's, founded by Al Gore's wife Tipper Gore, with the intent of censoring songs on albums which lyrics could be percieved as offensive.

There was quite a debate about it, and at one point, there was even this huge press conference about it, with Twisted Sisters Dee Snyder and, perhaps a bit surprisingly, John Denver (yes, the same dude that wrote "Leaving On A Jet Plane", and later, ironically, was killed in a plane crash) on the side of Rock N' Roll (obviously), and said conference even became a movie later on.

For more info about the matter at hand, I'd recommend seeing "Decline Of Western Civilization II: The Heavy Metal Years"

Death to Tippor Gore. I've never seen a more blatant form of Authoritarian control over something like music.

Arise II 10-14-2005 04:10 AM

I've actually pondered that quite a bit. I mean, todays scape goat is rap music (and with idiots like 50 Cent and Eminem at the forefront, its no wonder), but OTOH, they are getting bashed for the same "bad" ideals as bands such as Slayer and Megadeth (amongst others) were critized for supposedly enforcing back in the 80's.

And today, we know that despite all these bands so called "violent" messages and "degenerate" lifestyles, their fans are today normal, working people like everybody else - even those who still listen to the music (take that with a grain of salt, if you will, as a lot of those older fans were parts of Gen X ;) )

So I guess the question is - when rappers are being critized for lyrics about "smackin' dem bitches" and "****in' up da white man", is history just repeating itself (its very stupid an annoying self at that, too)?

I wrote about 'Hook In Mouth' for a part of an essay on telling the truth.

I see what you're saying, but thrash was and still is primarily underground and middleground. Rap is mainstream and promoted all over the place.

*Mechanix

lol just kidding, both are awesome in their own right. so how about that link to mathias' cover, already? :upset: i wanna hear it

fatbandit 10-14-2005 08:24 AM

As much as I love a lot of stuff Megadeth has done, the Four Horsemen pwns the Mechanix. Sorry to say.

:)

:smash:

Arise II 10-14-2005 08:41 AM

Mechanix > Four Horsemen on pure speed
Four Horsemen > Mechanix on technique and overall contrasts and structure

Jev 10-14-2005 08:47 AM

I prefer TFHM I can't stand The Mechanix. Sorry Dave.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-14-2005 08:55 AM

Mechanix shits all over The Four Horsemen.

Pressures on Mathias :-P

ThrashMaster27 10-14-2005 08:55 AM

Don't apologise. Dave wrote most of the Four Horsemen anyway. It's his creation, just without him being there.

fatbandit 10-14-2005 08:59 AM

Regardless of who wrote it, I still prefer 4HM. Better lyrics, better production, better structure, better bass, better... Everything

I prefer it aswell. It does drag on sometimes though.

Mechanix Kills The Four Horsemen Live.

Grogs 10-14-2005 09:03 AM

Shame Metallica have gone down the crap hole since then. :)

I thought everyone knew that I don't have those recordings anymore. Though I'll do more when I get my PODxt, probably next week.

I think both Mechanix and Four Horsemen are very overrated... but Mechanix pwns 4HM.

I get crap for this all the time, but the Power Metal version of The Mechanix is my favorite.

I agree though, lyrics aside, I like the thrashier versions of the song.

MAthiAS 10-14-2005 06:03 PM

Listen to them in chronological order of their releases.

Why would you buy all their albums, if you didn't know if you liked them, instead of just one?

Well here you go anyway:

Mechanix
Rattlehead
The Skull Beneath the Skin

PSBWHB?:
Wake Up Dead
Peace Sells
Good Mourning/Black Friday

RIP:
Holy Wars

Rust in Peace...Polaris
