NOTE: after browsing through the other forum pages a little bit more i realised that i repeated other peoples stuff ie: the trend and so on..

these we're my thoughts and have not been influenced by others as of yet..

i dont want to think that we are stating a trend of the very thoughtful tool fan who know all

and can some of you people stop having a cry over other people enjoying the radio played songs by tool. i mean its music, you would have heard it before from a friend and started listening to it. JUST BECAUSE THERE NOT MAD TOOL FANS doesnt mean they cant appreciate the music or the lyrics... dont be so judgmental, im also a fan of classical guitar, i learn it myself, but i still play alot of tool and other music, i also like john mayers you gonna hate me? and what about my addiction to bands like radio head, or opeth i mean music is a great thing, and when people get all c o c k y because they know more about the band or about the lyrics its another sort of trend...

its just like *not sure of nickname* who likes to play tool on his guitar and he
cant play a couple of solos, as he said people dont pick on him for it, why pick on unexposed tool fans...

anyway i hope you understood my point

Toolious<mopez> 09-15-2004 05:03 AM

o0o one more disturbing question...
the song 4 degrees i have read about other reasons behind the name but is it about ana.l se.x and the fact that the anu.s is 4 degrees warmer then the vagina.... im sorry, but im interested.. im wondering if maynard was a proctologist in a former life hahaha
plus after the first album mer de noms change 3 band members around is quite strange, ie: did they not cooperate? did they not have the image?

dont get me wrong i enjoy some of the tracks from thirteenth step like noose and the nurse who loved me
Man, thats a lot of posts all at once, least it was all meanigful.

Ok, few questions raised there that ill answer for you

The 3 band member changes is only 2 for a star, with Troy and Paz leaving respectively. Paz's reasons for leaving were personal interests, she has a solo project to work on, and she also felt the need to move on, which lead her to Zwan while they were still together.
Troy left due to more artisitc difference reasonings, also believed to be part of the reason PAz left. Since Bill writes 90% of APC music, it can become frustating for other bande members who have ideas if they have no chance to express them. Troy is now a part of QOTSA.

The nurse who loved me isn't an APC song, its a cover of the band Failure, who Troy used to be in, and also featured Paul D'Amour (Tool's old bassist)

Ill re read ur posts, see what else there is, though it seems you have some good opinions, and a lot to say

Toolious<mopez> 09-15-2004 05:41 AM

haha yeah, thanks for correcting me on the apc stuff although im a true tool fan and not a apc fan :D but i do enjoy some of the music

and i knew that nurse was a cover

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 05:47 AM

I can tell you're a Tool fan more due to one reason, yyou know what 4 degrees is really about.

Every tool fan should learn the harsh truth about that song one day, and how it can never have any spirtual meaning, as its just WRONG!

(great riff though)

Toolious<mopez> 09-15-2004 05:51 AM

hahaha, so it is true

Taraske 09-15-2004 06:08 AM

--4 Degrees--

Yeah, the song IS "about" ana.l se.x... but not in the same way everyone is thinking...

It's actually about the temperature difference in a chicken's va.gina, and its anu.s... not in a human. It has something to do with the way they are either killed, or impregnated. i cannot remember. but i know it deals with chickens....

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 06:11 AM

Really? I swear I read in an interview with DAnny and Justin that it was about Human anatomy. I would look it up, but that would just be wrong. Chickens just make it worse :upset:

Taraske 09-15-2004 06:14 AM

lol

my guitarist was sayin somethin about it's the difference in chickens... i am not 100% for sure, i am just relying on what he told me. He got it off some FAQ site... i am thinkin the down.toolshed one. not too sure, so don't quote me. ^_^

Quoted for ironic-ness

yeah, that FAQ sounds right, ill look it up later, but im not wanting to dig too far into it. Ill just stick to learning the guitar, and leave the lyrics alone

an_underused_memory 09-15-2004 06:16 AM

i think the broad reason for those APC members leaving is simply the downtime....Bill spend the between recording/touring time writing, Maynard is back with his original band....what do you do to pay the bills for 18 months?
Take the offer of working with QotSA full time? sounds like a deal...
I think APC selling out is a subjective question, I thought they had too when i first heard 13th step....but as i've said in many pervious posts, when it got me hooked, it REALLY got me...i now see it as a great progression, its certainly evolved from the energetic youth style of mer de noms, to a more cohesive band this time round.
Others may call that cohesion 'boring' or 'selling out' ..but i have no qualms with it.
I don't mind how popular a band is as long as I can see them creating from themselves and with passion and compassion!
but since i've changed my views before, i certainly see your point!

Knew I forgot to mention something, at least josh had the Vandals and 10000 other projects to keep him occupied. I wonder if the same will happen with Jeordie now? (as I know James is only on board for touring purposes)

Toolious<mopez> 09-15-2004 06:31 AM

*** One of my truest sad moments in life ***

Im from australia and tool had come to australia for the aenima tour when i was too young, but this time i was in about year 9-10 i think which would make me umm... 15 - 16

in my prime was coming from music like spine shank and slayer or metallica (not so much) although they ARE GOOD LIVE :D... but i had only just started listening to my first copy of AENIMA, *sniff* weeks later my mate came to school with a lateralus t-shirt..

i was like maenz whats that... he was all like i went to see tool

*nooooooooooooooooo* came from my mouth

ill never forgive myself, so young

and this is also one of my EXTREME joys for the new album that is due out by tool... i want the album to come out for so many reason, not only because of new material by tool, but they will tour, and i will stay out all night at the door to get general admission tickets, or so help me god... thought i should share my story...

have you guys seen tool live before?!?! and does anyone have a reason as to why maynard sings from the back of the stage when preforming live with tool, but preforms at the front with APC??? more of the front man perhaps?

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 06:37 AM

I have yet to see them live, they came to the UK for Ozzfest in 2002 and I missed them there and at the two shows they did in London.

As for Maynard performing at the back of the stage with Tool, he did as well with APC. When I saw the supporting the deftones he had his back to the crowd the whole show, then when I saw their own show he was covered in the infamous shadow screen for the first song, then stayed at the back for the rest (until the set was over, then he came to the crowd to hand out towels, water bottles, etc). It all depends on his mood IMO, whether or not he feels the need to be close to the crowd, or to merely connect with them via the music

Toolious<mopez> 09-15-2004 07:16 AM

yeah, im sure its probably just one of his things...

possibly another thing to make himself more unique?!
have you guys seen tool live before?!?! and does anyone have a reason as to why maynard sings from the back of the stage when preforming live with tool, but preforms at the front with APC??? more of the front man perhaps?
I've heard a numer of theories on this;

1. Before Lateralus was released, Maynard got the most attention (he was the singer/frontman, so it makes sense), and he wasn't OK with that; the members of the band should be equal. So he now stands at the back to show this.

2. Tool simply use so many amps now when they play that Maynard standing infron of them is a technical absurdity; it would fedback too horribily or something.

3. Maynard, Adam, Justin, Danny and the audience form some kind of pentagon, which is special to Tool for whetever reason.

I don't know if any of those are correct, but its what I heard.

Fallen Angel

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 12:17 PM

I think theory 1 is the most likely, Maynard certinally doesn't revel much in the lead postion, he does like it when the rest of the band is given credit

Theory 2 is least likely, as Adam uses 3 different amps which are sitauted nearest to him (usaully stage left) so he can manipulate the feedback best. Im not sure about justins set up, but i've seen live videos where the amps are a distance away from Maynard, yet he still stands at the back.

Theory 3 may be one they started themselves, ther eis always a lot of pentagon talk with tool. The favourite is Danny's drum set up is in a pentogram, but I think someone like Stagefrightken will know more about that.

Another theory i heard (and dismissed with proof) is that Maynard stands at the back out the light, as lights in his eyes causes him to sneeze. Although my friend has that problem, I doubt Maynard does.

Tell you what, everyone come up with their own crazy theories, no matter how ludicrous, and see how many people believe them

Taraske 09-15-2004 12:32 PM

WAIT!! I'm a MORON!!!!

i think that whole chicken thing.. uhm yeah. i guess it is true, but that's now what it's about... >_<

(Pertaining to the whole Water theme of the Undertow Album, the idea is more behind the contraction of water from 0-4 degrees celsius.)

sorry for any stupidity... Owch.

feelsoinvincible 09-15-2004 01:23 PM

nope its not tool... no chance...but on that subject anyone know if theres a dates set for the next album?
also to my thoughts on other peoples opinions on the song lyrics of tools tracks are very broad.

i read peoples thoughts on some of there songs, and as i see it drugs are the answer... one of my other favourite bands Pink floyd, have some of the MOST MEANINGFUL lyrics i have ever heard in my life, as do tool in a more angry fashion eg. i hope you choke :D

but pink floyd and tool were both on copious amounts of drugs during there initial boom in popularity and i find that when listening to either band i hear some very meaning ful things... not to say they've ever stop me from killing myself or any of that sort of thinking.. but they have definetly made me think

although i've never researched the meaning or the lyrics i have pondered on to what song mean... all bands have there own meanings to song, the problem i have with some people around the word is that we take these messages too seriously and try to create this wonderful meaning to a SONG...

although im not sure if you guys are right or wrong, and i have no problem with you guys trying to understand the reasons behind the influences or construction to the songs lyrics...

i know maynard is a very *thinking* type of person, and he obviously isnt dumb, for he seems to know what hes talking about, ie: his use of terms from
mathematics - parabola ect. but the dumb population of teenage youth dont listen to this and enjoy the music more that the lyrics, or the tone of the way its said being that tool isnt really getting there message across, which is one of the unofficial reasons why Rage against the machine broke up, zack felt they were more of a cool band and people wern't listening to there message...

but i true fan of tool i am, and i very much enjoy the message they may or maynot be trying to get across, and have heard news about a new album next year (if maynard agrees) and also a DVD of live lateralus preformances WOOHOO :D

and also is the soundtrack from the game DOOM 3 really tool because it sounds just like them and is great to hear new work from the band atleast
feelsoinvincible 09-15-2004 01:24 PM

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 01:27 PM

Tools next album, for the 10932424 time (no matter, I know people are as eager as me) is at the earliest start of next year, more likely late April in my mind

As for the doom 3 reference, check out Blairs latest post for confirmation that its NOT tool

feelsoinvincible 09-15-2004 01:34 PM

uhh.. i have every cd, and i still love those two songs. What, because theose two are played more on the radio than others theyre not as good??? what the ****. popularity does not equal low quality. and i know this has been said dozens of times but, dude, youre an asshole. you might appreciate them and know more about tool than that schism kid, but he still might like the music as much as you.
It annoys me when I ask people if they are into Tool and they either say "fvck yeah, Schism is awesome" or "fvck yeah, Stinkfist is awesome."
It has become a trend I think now to be a "Fan" of Tool.
Theory 3 may be one they started themselves, ther eis always a lot of pentagon talk with tool. The favourite is Danny's drum set up is in a pentogram, but I think someone like Stagefrightken will know more about that.
Danny does have a very specific way he sets his drums up, it is very positional and varies with stuff like time of year, angle of the arena they are playing and stuff like that. His drum tech uses a GPS and a Esoteric rope to help set up the kit. The actual kit itself is set up with a certain number of toms and certain number of electronic pads to channel natural energy. Alot of people dismiss this kind of stuff as a gimmick but this is his religous beliefs and who are they to say what it is ok to believe in and not.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 02:00 PM

I knew he had some spiritual link with his set up, plus some random deal with his hi-hat positioning. But im not knowlegable about his set up, so thanks for the info. But using a GPS for a set up sounds impressive!

SonorKen 09-15-2004 02:06 PM

The only reason to use a GPS in this particular instance would be purely to make sure you were facing at or close to a particular direction. A GPS basically works from 2 angles of view, out and down. I would say he is alighning himself with a particular spiritual location.......

Adam Jones is GOD 09-15-2004 02:10 PM

Well as long as his spiritual postion is never the back of the stage, then im fine with whatever way he faces. Ill take note of his drumset postion in live footage when I see it now

If it helped me to play like THAT, I'd buy a GPS for sure.

Religious implications aside alot of the geometrical ideas probably have practical reasons as well...if everything is aligned on a symetrical grid, you'd probably have alot more ease of movement and fluidity, me thinks. Seems logical, enough.

I love Tool own all the albumns, but I hate the fans. For the most part they are all elitest fuckbags who think they live on a higher realm than the rest of us because they have figured out the meaning of 46 and 2. And for some reason they have got into their heads that 6/8 timming is so much harder and complex to play in than 4/4.
