phyl 09-13-2005 06:12 PM

that exactly is crust?

Feel The Darkness 09-13-2005 08:34 PM
that exactly is crust?

Crust. The dirtiest of the shit pile known as punk.
Crust has always been, for the most part, one of the more unknown
sub-genres of punk. It, majority of the time, consists of: heavy
guitar, growling vocals, blast beats or similar drum beats. The
lyrical stylings of crust have generally been known to be about social
issues, war crimes, various political agendas and for the most part,
in support of Anarchism. I have summed it up to being anarcho-punk
blended with hardcore and with a smidge of metal. Some better known
crust bands include: Doom, Dropdead and Misery. Although some bands
borderline with being properly labeled, either anarcho or crust, such
as Aus-Rotten. My personal recommendations would be: Warcollapse,
Avskum, Behind Enemy Lines, hell, i'd recommend almost any crust band.
...don't people ever read entire threads anymore?
J, I'm goign to ask this here so I dont bump the thrash thread, what's Crossover? I don't want to read throught hat whole thread.
Ye should've just bumped the thrash thread as it actually goes in there, but crossover was the era in thrash where people started to use more hardcore influence than before. Thrash itself is basically Heavy metal + Hardcore, although Crossover Thrash is Thrash Metal + More Hardcore.

It's similar to Hardcore, as Hardcore is usually used for bands like Madball, Terror, etc., although it goes the same for bands like Dead Kennedys and FEAR, thing is, bands like DK and FEAR stuck with a more punk sound while general Hardcore bands were heavier.

It's all the same music but it has distinct differences that created different fan bases.

btw, I don't think I had actually posted a definition of crossover thrash.

...except for Dropdead as they were already on there. Kegcharge alogn with some of those Dis- bands are D-Beat, but hell, Crust and D-beat tend ot go hand in hand anyways. Kegcharge rule though, real awesome dudes. Jon, the drummer, plays in World Burns to Death aswell, and I'm pretty sure Zac plays guitar in both aswell.

Totalitar's up there, Municipal Waste is thrash (only), and I can't say that I've heard the other bands. I'm sure I've heard, at least heard of, Catheter but I can't say I remember the music.

Links would be nice.

Oh, and the mass amount of genres have been explained...alot...it simply to classify music to different tastes. I know alot of people who like street punk, but hate crust, or likewise. Thus all the genres are just to simplify the recommendation of bands. Although I'm seriously considering askign to have this moved into the hardcore forum, as crust really is hardcore, just alot dirtier.

_threechords_ 09-15-2005 09:45 PM

Good crust

Is Discharge the first ever crust band? Who are the founding fathers? And what is crust's history? Is it popular in America. Long time punk fan but I'm a crust n00b.(yeah, ill admit it)

Discharge were the first d-beat band, as that entire style is based off of ripping Discharge off. haha.

The band that's usually associated with the beginnings of crust would be Amebix although Deviated Instinct were one of the first bands to actually be called "crust punk." As for history, it, for the most part, started off in the UK from what I know with bands like Doom, Axe Grinder, Amebix, Deviated Instinct, etc. It was just heavy hardcore with extreme lyrics about political, aswell as socio-economic, issues.

Although I has grown quite rapidly within the US. Notable cities for spewing out crust bands in the US have been the areas of Portland, OR with bands like Hellshock, Tragedy, Cut-Throat, etc. along with Austin, TX with bands like World Burns to Death, Severed Head of State, Mayday, Signal Lost, Century of War. There are alot more cities with good bands, but those are off the top of my head.

Hope that helped.

RetiredAt21 09-16-2005 12:31 AM

I once tried to figure out a Nasum song on guitar. Didn't happen. Hahahaha.
