Wow. I'm a bassist too. Lots of jamming bassists around here. Which is a very good thing.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-30-2005 01:30 PM

What kind of bass(es) do you guys have. Modulus Q5 and Warwick 'Vette 5 here.

pegwedge 03-30-2005 03:40 PM

I don't own anything very expensive. I have a Brice Bubinga six-stringer, Brice violin copy, and an SX Jazz Bass (which I just bought Rotosound strings for and I must say...wowzers. I don't think I'll ever buy another brand for it.) I have a nice big Fender Bassman combo too.

moghes69 03-30-2005 04:21 PM

i have a schecter stilleto elite, and i have a modded hartke sb-15 that i plan to defret, i would move up to a five, but i don't exactly have any money for one and i just recently bought my schecter, but in time i will probably get a 5er

pegwedge 03-30-2005 04:30 PM

Oh man. The music shop here in town has a Stilleto Elite. I just like to stand there and look at it. He doesn't like people who don't aren't serious about buying instruments playing them.

moghes69 03-31-2005 04:46 PM

u should go play it any way it's deffinately worth getting yelled at by that guy to have a chance to play one

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-31-2005 05:03 PM

Yes, try playing it, the worst he can do is tell you to stop and put it back. When I go to music stores I consider anything without a 'do not touch' sign fair game

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-31-2005 05:32 PM

What are the most memorable concerts you guys have ever been to?

Jam2Me 03-31-2005 05:47 PM

Phish, Gov't Mule, Allman Brothers Band, and the Jazz Mandolin Project.

This Summer: Skynyrd and Allmans, Black Crowes and Petty, Bonnaroo, Bela Fleck and the Acoustic Trio, and Jack Johnson.

e p 03-31-2005 06:20 PM

Acoustic Planet Trio; Flecktones, Yonder MSB, and Keller Williams together for 6 hours of fun.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-31-2005 07:11 PM

IT, Keller Williams incident, Phish at Camden last year, and every time I see the Allmans.

Badmoon 03-31-2005 08:25 PM
I just bought quite possibly the greatest Grateful Dead CD ever. I bought the Closing of Winterland December 31, 1978 4 CDs of non-stop Grateful Dead action.
It is pretty good. I wouldn't necessarily rate it high amongst other live Grateful Dead albums, but it is pretty good none the less.

hey mi band are a jazz meets funk meets rock meets blues meets hip hop jam band, so i was wondering if u could give us some feedback on our tracks on www.purevolume.com/skinlessfinger and www.myspace.com/skinlessfinger - bear in mind these were recorded with a video camera and it was all completely improvised (except for the covers, although all apart from the 2 riffs from chameleon were improv'd on). any comments would b greatly appreciated, and if they could be directed to skinlessfinger@hotmail.com (corny name i know lol) then that'd b even better.

anyways, cheers for listenin 2 my shameless self promotion, we just need 2 know wot people think of our music really! :thumb:

moghes69 04-01-2005 02:42 PM

i posted my band a little bit back, don't get your hopes up on getting a lot of feedback, only a couple of people said anything about us... http://www.purevolume.com/madagom just thought i'd post it again for the heck of it

I listened to your band when you first posted it, and I really liked it. Probably the best song I've ever heard by someone on mx.

None taken, and you're welcome.

So Robert Randolph is opening for DMB when they come here and Jurassic 5 is opening the first day, but tickets kinda expensive considering I don't really like DMB.

Jam2Me 04-01-2005 05:27 PM

Is Randolph opening all summer for DMB? That would make me wanna go othe than the copious amounts of hot girls and pot.

jpj 04-01-2005 05:28 PM

I couldn't tell you.

pegwedge 04-01-2005 11:23 PM

Anyone planning on going to the Wakarusa festival? They have a pretty decent lineup. It may be a thirteen hour drive but I think I may go just for the hell of it. I don't have anything better to do.

That has a sick line up, so does the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

JPage54 04-03-2005 02:44 PM

Any Minnesotans here, or outta staters looking into the 10,000 Lakes Festival?

JPage54 04-04-2005 04:20 PM

Bump

pegwedge 04-04-2005 04:32 PM

I actually thought about going to that before I found Wakarusa. It a bit of a long drive to Minnesota. Not that 13 hours is a long drive it just beats 19 hours. :thumb: It looks really good though. I'd like to see Trey.

Jam2Me 04-04-2005 05:18 PM

It may be impossible for the 10,000 Lakes Festival to top their 2004 set list...that looked like such a sick show last year but I live absolutely no where near there so :(...

I am going to see The Samples soon, I'm not too familiar with them but they play a good festivals and tours so I'm sure they're sick.

Badmoon 04-04-2005 08:25 PM

The Samples...they are easily one of the worst Jam Bands I've heard. But maybe it's just their recorded stuff.

e p 04-04-2005 10:34 PM

This is bass related..but has anyone noticed the trend in Jam Bassists and Modulus.

To name a few...Phil Lesh, Mike Gordon, Oteil Burbidge, etc.

pegwedge 04-05-2005 09:49 AM

Yes. I have noticed that. They must be pretty versatile. I've never played one personally.

SplitOpenAndMelt 04-05-2005 12:46 PM

Yea, I own one. Quantum 5 string like Cactus. It's not really a trend....it's a known fact that Modulus's are just about the most versatile, best sounding, best quality basses made! The sound really just blows me the hell away. I think Phil Lesh played the first one in the 70's, and from then on it has been the choice of some of the best bassists in the world, Jam bands or not. But, jam band members tend to be more musically talented than musicians from other genres...a thank you very much ;)

I downloaded some stuff...it's not that bad, what songs do you have?

I enjoyed the songs, you guys certainly have talent. The only thing that bugged me was that your drummer seemed a little obnoxious for the type of music you guys played played. But it was still great. :thumb:

edit: I also liked how you didn't try to sing like the majority of the bands on PureVolume. And notice I said "try", If any of you have singing ability, go for it.

Badmoon 04-05-2005 08:36 PM

2 albums worth.

I love the sounds mike can get with his

the slap tone and pick tone is great...but theyre pretty expensive :upset:

yeah, none of us have any vocal talent. there isn't anyone that we know that can sing either, but if they did they'd probably get bored from all of the instrumental stuff.

jpj 04-06-2005 02:40 PM

Jam bands don't need extremely talented vocalists. Just as long as they can stay in key.

JimStyle 04-06-2005 03:51 PM

Yeah Trey and Jerry aren't very gifted singers but they definitely get the job done, and done well.

jpj 04-06-2005 04:06 PM

They made up for it with great guitar skills.

Jam2Me 04-06-2005 04:15 PM
2 albums worth.
They've got 16...and it's not all that bad.

I don't mind Jerry's voice or Trey's...I like both of them.

Badmoon 04-06-2005 04:24 PM
They've got 16
Yea, unfortunatley the two albums I have are rated the best out of the others (by allmusic), and they are terrible in my opinion.
and it's not all that bad.
So yes, so far it's all that bad. IMO
