Iron & Wine isn't christian.

Neither are Virgin Black to my knowledge.
Iron & Wine isn't christian.
You're right. He was raised Christian and he's interested in religion. The effects of it rather than the lifestyle. He's always lobbed in with Christian artists from forums I've been to though, so I figured he was. Thanks for making me do some research.
Neither are Virgin Black to my knowledge.
"While members of Virgin Black have Christian beliefs, the band has often sought to explain that its music is an exploration of spirituality and attempts to highlight the difference between the Church and the spiritual aspects of Christianity".

I guess early on, they tried to attract a Christian audience but the Christian audience found their style to be blasphemous (lulz), so they gave up and are now aiming towards a general audience.

I think this is the case, though I think they actually play down that they are Christian as I recall reading something about differences with the church. Meh.

publicastration 10-09-2007 03:12 PM

I suppose their church teaches that proper grammar is from satan.

Yeah.. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Karnivool, not to mention every band that has song names with the wrong spelling.... they went to a private satan school.

Shred Danson 10-09-2007 06:09 PM

I didn't know Satan taught how to make horrible music. Makes perfect sense though.

BrokenChains 11-20-2007 12:47 PM

Pillar is my favorite Christian rock band...other Christian bands I listen to would be Demon Hunter and As I Lay Dying

Dimmu Burger 11-20-2007 01:16 PM

No matter how hard i try i can't enjoy Demon Hunter. Its just too Butt Metal.

Shred Danson 11-20-2007 01:29 PM

It's not even metal. It's garbage. I can't see how they even sell records. Horrible, horrible band.

/hopes my band tours with them one day so I can tell them that

explain to me how Demon Hunter fits into the "Butt Metal" category, because I actually like them. I think they have some pretty good songs. Some aren't all that great, but there are exceptions.

gmoneyguy 11-20-2007 01:46 PM

You liking them doesn't make them good.

illpressureurhinges1 11-20-2007 01:54 PM

I never said it did. I just wanted to know why he was considering them "Butt Metal"?

I apologise in advance because my categorization(sp?) of Butt Metal makes no sense whatsoever, but i'll try to explain.

Vocally: As far as singing, they usually use that accent that was made popular by Pearl Jam, STP and even Matchbox Twenty and Cher. Recent bands using this include but are not limited to: Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin, Seether (heavily), and Three Days Grace. As far as screaming its usually very one dimentional not really high nor really low screaming. Examples include: Five Finger Death Punch, Demon Hunter and Machine Head.

Guitars: Usually downtuned, not thrashy, not technical or intricate in any way, barely any palm muting and if there are any leads they are usually simple and/or effects driven. Most solos are equally lame.

Drums: Rarely using double bass in any sort of good way and rarely use blast beats. Also doesn't have much high end in the kick drum tone and said kick drum is lower in the mix than most metal.

Feel free to discuss this but try not to take it too seriously because its just a joke genre that i use to make fun of bands.

Thank you. I appreciate the thorough explanation. As for what you had to say, I understand where you are coming from. The vocals are kinda one-dimension, and the instrumentation is somewhat dull. I just felt that they had some catchy songs, but at the same time, I understand your reasoning. Again, thank you for the explanation instead of just calling me some bad name and telling me my opinion sucks. And you were right with the spelling of categorization.

Your welcome. I just wanted to try to understand why exactly you called them that in the first place, and now I kind of see it. So thank you for helping me "see the light". :)
