In lots of songs they censor words like "kill" or "die" or "gun" even.

Bad Blood 06-28-2006 01:01 PM

lol yeah, it's kind of pathetic.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:02 PM

thats pretty dictating. my radio station is pretty good about not doing that. you know crazy bitch by buckcherry? its like"hey your a crazy bitch but you (censor) so good..." and It's pretty awesome taht they don't censor bitch.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 01:03 PM

Soon they won't even censor f'uck.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:06 PM

that'd be the day.

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 01:10 PM

Well it's public in movies and on CDs, I don't think it'll be too long. It's such a commonly used word nowadays.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:20 PM

yeh even little childern are running around screaming "**** you mom I don't want to."

nobodyblossomsforever 06-28-2006 01:25 PM

That was my 'lil bro's first word. Haha.

nag*with*a*gun 06-28-2006 01:31 PM

my first word was dog, but not as in the animal, as in the food.
i know this little first grader who knows every swear word thats still used cause her dad teaches her them. on purpose. its like teaching a parrot.

You eat dog in new york? Eww.

I saw a video on MTV the other day; The Electric Six - Gay Bar. The sensored the words "Let's Start A Nuclear War". Censorship on TV today is sickening.
yeh even little childern are running around screaming "**** you mom I don't want to."
My mom learned about the F word when she was in kindergarten and saw it written in a bathroom. She then asked her parents at dinner that night what it meant and my grandma and grandpa were shocked. :p

As to the topic of the thread. I love early Green Day (Dookie & Nimrod, don't like pre-Dookie that much) and American Idiot has grown on me a lot now as well. Bullet In A Bible is sweet stuff too.

pgm 06-28-2006 09:26 PM
His guitar playing isn't anything if you ask me.
Billie Joe's? No, it really isn't. It's solid. He knows everything a punk player should know. But he doesn't go beyond that. I was talking to this guy who summed it up perfectly, though. This guy is a shredder, rips of Yingwie, etc. He said that if all you want to do is play 3 chords and mess around, then Green Day is fine.

Personally, though, I don't like shredding, Vai, Santrini, Yingwie. It all ends up sounding like technical exercises played really fast. A band like Green Day needs to focus on the song writing because they have less skill instrumentally to work with. I do like Buckethead, however, so shredding can be kind of fun.

Fish 06-28-2006 10:55 PM

well you cant really say vai and satch are shredders. Like there music once in a while has shred yes, but not as much as pretucci or as you mentioned, buckethead.

Yeah, 'War' and 'Nuclear War' got censored with what sounded like a whipping noise playing over those words'. Thats so dumb although I heard it was because the song was released around the time of the Iraq invasion so was censored to prevent any possible complaints

Ross 06-30-2006 04:19 AM

I know but seriously... if GreenPeace released a song with the lyrics "NO MORE NUCLEAR WAR" surely they'd have to censor that out of principle? If they didn't they'd be shooting themselves in the foot by censoring some songs and not others!

yourstruly 06-30-2006 04:32 AM

Alot of shit like that goes on in the world, but it's never really gotten in the way of anything I've done.

I watched a live clip of Basket Case from reading festival, they have some random guy playing guitar, he plays badly but it's a pretty cool thing to do stuff like that.

A random guy from the audience? That's pretty cool.

I bought Kerplunk a couple of days ago. (I had it downloaded, but I wanted to buy it). The letter from the fan is hilarious.

yourstruly 07-03-2006 09:43 PM

Yeah something like that. Green Day are the only band i've seen do something that before.

What does the letter say?

Bad Blood 07-04-2006 03:56 AM

They did that at Milton Keynes, the guitarist was awful haha.

Were they playing 'knowledge' by any chance? Also, the person who comes up gets to keep the guitar.

yourstruly 07-04-2006 03:59 AM

nah, they were playing Basket Case at some festival I can't remember the name of. He was alright, he stopped a few times and made some mistakes but he kept in time.

Bad Blood 07-04-2006 04:06 AM

oh right, yeah sorry I missed that bit.

Billie was like "are you sure you can play guitar" and all this, and he said "yeah, i've been playing for 5 years" and as soon as he starts playing, it's f'ucking awful

yourstruly 07-04-2006 04:32 AM

haha awesome.

EDIT: I just watched that on youtube. BJ kisses him on the mouth. it made me

I saw a video where they got a whole band of random people up on stage to play knowledge; it was at Reading Festival (UK) in... 2001? Something like that. The drummer was ok/reasonable, the guitarist was bad but the bassist made me embarrassed to be a bass player... he was dire.

They got one guy up to play guitar, then Billie realised this guy didn't actually play guitar so he had him "removed" by the bouncers; pure class comedy!

Yeah I've seen that.
They do that at every show now, so it got a bit old the second time I saw them.

Is that the video where he makes the guitarist crowd surf all the way to the stage?

Ross 07-04-2006 05:33 AM

Aye, that's the one. I haven't seen them live yet, so I didn't know they do it all the time. I was going to... but as I've already said, I sold the tickets and went skiing with my girlfriend instead :thumb:

Anyone know of any good sites where I can download Green Day videos/music videos in general? I just got a Zen Vision:M (like an iPod video for those who succumbed to apple's mass marketing) yesterday and I want to fill it with things to watch.

yourstruly 07-04-2006 06:23 AM

Somewhere on this site it has instructions to download videos from youtube onto your computer.

http://javimoya.com/blog/download-videos/

Limewire has a few aswell.

pgm 07-29-2006 12:08 AM

I know there's no news, but wow this is dead.

yourstruly 07-29-2006 02:25 AM

yeah. I've got copys of all of Green Days albums now. Except one I think. Been learning some of their songs on guitar aswell.
