Well, the title track is fantastic...
It has its moments.

I think it was mentioned in the other thread, but is it just me or would crowning Opeth the "Ultimate Metal Band" seem odd. They are no doubt an awesome band, but the ultimate? There's something to them that makes me think the final two bands should be Metallica and Maiden.. or something.

I voted for Opeth anyways :D

LeperAffinity 10-05-2004 05:54 PM

For all the people looking to get into Opeth, this site has Damnation, Deliverance, Blackwater Park, Still Life, and My Arms Your Hearse available for streaming. The quality's kinda crappy though, but it's better than nothing.

well, i have thought about it, and they are an odd choice for 'ultimate' metal band, in a lot of people's opinions, they are 'the best' metal band, but 'ultimate' is different, i don't know, bands like Megadeth, black sabbath, Judas priest and metallica are the bands you think of when somebody talks about metal ya know? Don't get me wrong, metallica can rot for all i care and opeth rox my sox  but i don't think they are 'ultimate'

Grey Incision 10-06-2004 06:48 PM

people, i am proud to say that i am currently taking the time out to listen to Morningrise all the way through, and i am halfway through Nectar. I must say.....................****! that is quality stuff, i've always thought Morningrise was the worst album, but now it's shot up to about no. 3 on my list, and night & the silent water has replaced Leper affinity as one of my favourite songs

The Night And The Silent Water 10-11-2004 03:53 AM

Opeth plain rule.... ive been into them for over a year now, ive bought all their albums... there is not one day goes by that i dont listen to at least one of their albums all the way through... fave at the moment is Still Life, but overall its gotta be Morningrise :D

Mikael is god!!!!

All hail Opeth!!!!!

kalpa 10-11-2004 04:21 AM

the stranger 10-11-2004 07:45 AM

Heavy0metal0freak 10-11-2004 08:55 PM
definatly my favorite line, i love that song.
wats the name of the song?

ArcLite 10-12-2004 01:26 AM

My guess is no, but do Opeth have any videos? I mean music videos, not like Lamentations or anything. I'm thinking there isn't but maybe one exists...

Shlakalam3 10-12-2004 08:35 AM

To whoever said Deliverance is only a mediocre CD, and that By my Pain in Others is the best songs-- By my Pain in others is the simplest, least complex song. Mikael never sings with his great singing voice, and he has a lame effect on during the verses. Granted, its a great song, but there are lots of better on that CD. :thumb:

Opeth just doesn't deserve to be the ultimate metal band. It would seem really out of place if Opeth won, instead of Metallica, Iron Maiden, or Sabbath.

the2stranger 10-12-2004 08:53 AM

I wouldn't call it odd, it's just what the crowd thinks

bucket 10-12-2004 06:38 PM

I believe there is a Windowpane video. I think it was shown on Headbangers ball.

swedelead 10-12-2004 06:46 PM

Opeth completely deserve to be in the final two of the Ultimate Metal Band Poll, they have strong music and vocals and the voting proves that many people my self included think they deserve it. However it surprised that neither maiden nor sabbath got into the final two. But the people have spoken.

mattlewis53 10-12-2004 09:52 PM

I tried to buy Blackwater Park today but there was no CD inside the case...just an empty case. I took it back to the store but they didn't have another Blackwater Park so I had to use the store credit they gave me to get Deliverance. I like it but now I want Blackwater Park even more.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 10-12-2004 10:45 PM

I LOVE OPETH!

Favourite song: Master's Apprentices.

I love the way they use standard tuning.

Det_Nosnip 10-12-2004 11:27 PM

^^ You love...the way...they use....standard tuning?

There definitely is one...it's mainly just shots of the band in the studio. I think I have it downloaded.

Give it to me! ~steals~

I've revised my list of favorite Opeth albums. From best to worst:
Morningrise
MAYH
Blackwater Park
Orchid
Still Life
****ation
Deliverance
To whoever said Deliverance is only a mediocre CD, and that By my Pain in Others is the best songs-- By my Pain in others is the simplest, least complex song. I mainly like By The Pain for the clean part, which owns extremely hard. I dunno why, Deliverance as an album just doesn't click with me. ****ation either, really; even though it is excellent it just doesn't feel like Opeth. Although I've got to hand it to them, they've set a very high precedent for themselves, so it'll be hard to top what they've done in the past.

Big-Bird 10-16-2004 11:55 AM

Could Opeth be Gothenburg?

could they be gothenburg? the vocalist from In Flames on the Lunar Strain album really sounds a lot like Mikael on Orchid

Vitriolic Rage 10-16-2004 11:59 AM

Yeah, Opeth are great, I bought Deliverance the other day and can't stop listening to it.

NJMetalMeister 10-16-2004 12:24 PM
could they be gothenburg? the vocalist from In Flames on the Lunar Strain album really sounds a lot like Mikael on Orchid
That would be Mike Stanne of dark tranquillity on that album, and i really do not see the resemblence between the two. Now if you were to tell me that Mikael of opeth sounds like Dan Swanö at times, i would be inclined to agree.

ofdreams n xtc 10-16-2004 12:26 PM

ive been into opeth since 95 ...before orchid was released in the states in 97 ....... one of the best bands out there. ......emotion......agression ......passion .........

very anxious for the new album ...... lead to believe that this will be their darkest...and heaviest album to date....its to be very occultish occordin to mike from opeth ,,,,

ofdreams n xtc 10-16-2004 12:28 PM

well mike did do guest vocal spots on the 40 min track crimson by edge of sanity ,,,, right along side of dan swano

NJMetalMeister 10-16-2004 12:29 PM

I'm aware, and they were also in the band steel together, and mike sang for the first two bloodbath releases, which had swanö in it as well. Slightly off topic, but the new bloodbath is killer.

Dan swanö is probably my all time favorite musician though, so believe me i know all of this.

ofdreams n xtc 10-16-2004 12:35 PM

well its good to see someone who knows some **** on this board! kudos to you ....

yes the new bloodbath is great stuff ....... one thing though about dan swano...he is a prick in real life....... very arrogant son of a bitch ....... which is why he set out to do the entire crimson II all alone..and it was such a bad job..... dan swano great musician ..but an asshole personality.....

got a little off topic from opeth ...sorry

ncreep 10-16-2004 12:40 PM

i love silhoutte and also demon on the fall....

ncreep 10-16-2004 12:40 PM

they're ****ing cool

Det_Nosnip 10-16-2004 12:42 PM

Actually, I would agree that EARLY Opeth have some melodic death resemblances. You take an In Flames album like the Jester Race, which had a good deal of acoustic stuff in it, and put it up with Opeth, and it's not AS MUCH of a difference as say BWP or ****ation.
