I severely doubt that Meddle is a concept album. The first side is just a collection of songs.

WYWH and The Wall and Animals are definitely concepts though, and DSOTM is debatable.
DSOTM definitely is.

Artistfacts.com stuff (I know this is sort of advertising but this stuff is great)
Gilmour has an extensive collection of classic guitars, including the Fender Stratocaster with the first serial number.

They were the first band to use a quadraphonic sound system at their concerts. Using 4 different channels of audio, it was an early version of surround sound.

In an attempt to keep ticket prices low, they once appeared in a French soft-drink commercial. This went against their anti-commercialism philosophy and was a horrible experience. They haven't done anything like that since.

Their famous light shows started off very low-tech. In the early days, they used slide projectors and colored condoms stretched over lights.
You have to love that last one

Animals pwns the Wall. The Wall is still awesome though. Yep this thread is hijacked.

BigTrav415 09-28-2005 06:28 PM

Four Square pwns Wall Ball though. I actually figured out how Four Square is actually an ironic allegory to political revolution. I think I wrote something about it sometime when I was bored...

DeusExMachina 09-28-2005 08:49 PM

Wall Ball > Four Square. Sorry, but Four Square doesn't even come close.

I've never been able to make up my mind about that :(

And yeah, wall ball is cool.

So what's everyone's favorite painfully long Pink Floyd song? Atom Heart Mother? Echoes? Dogs? (those are my 3)

magicbus 09-28-2005 09:32 PM

Mines Echoes, and I guess SOYCD if you add them together.

BludgeonySteve 09-28-2005 09:33 PM

Oh yeah, SOYCD too :)

Riva 09-28-2005 09:34 PM
Mines Echoes, and I guess SOYCD if you add them together.
Probably Echoes as well.

DeusExMachina 09-28-2005 09:39 PM

They're all great. I was listening to AHM for the first time in awhile last night. Great stuff. I think I'm going to try and convince my school conductor to have us perform that.

My favorite Pink Floyd song in general is SOYCD.

Dragon_Prince 09-29-2005 07:59 AM

Definitably SOYCD it's great

Shine On or Pigs for me. Shine On would apear on a list of my favorite long songs, anyways (acompanied by 2112, A Change of Seasons, Close To the Edge, and Child In Time.)

I have to say Dogs or Echoes, on Echoes I love the part between 5 and 9 minutes ... where Gilmour and Waters rip into their instruments, Waters keeps the bass riff going whilst Gilmour adds in the guitar parts now and again ... I love it.

Ahh, well if we're going to add prog songs by other bands to it, I agree with all of those and add Thick as a Brick (I consider it progressive, anyways)

Dogs>Echoes=SOYCD...I like Pigs(3 different ones) better than all of those if it could be considered painfully long. Echoes drags on a little at times for me but I still love it.

Wall ball rocks!!

Also....Animals>The Wall *points to avatar*

BludgeonySteve 09-29-2005 04:58 PM

I have an Animals shirt

Even though I got robbed and payed $25 for that album, I still think it was a worthy buy.

I don't have any band shirts. I feel like a **** stick for it too.

I want one, but all my money is going for my amp right now.

If I couldn't find it for less, I would pay that much for it. I get it for $15 though.

$15 is still a rip-off for most cds.

robo2448 09-29-2005 05:11 PM

I had a choice between getting an Animals shirt and a DSOTM shirt and...

Yea I'm a trendy loser :upset:

At the time though, I had only just bought Animals the album, and hadn't really discovered how great it was, so I guess that's an excuse.

Edit- I got Animals for 10 bucks

:amaze: I got it for 9 bucks canadian

anyway, I've never posted in here, but I really like pink floyd, so I figured I might aswell drop in and say Hi :thumb:

Also, I recently purchased DSotM and I really can't see why people are so taken by it? It's good and all but I'd rather listen to Animals or Wish you were Here

Pretty much everyone here seems to like Animals and WYWH more than DSOTM. DSOTM is just the album that most Floyd fans get and enjoy first. It's still a brilliant album though.

magicbus 09-29-2005 05:15 PM

I like WYWH and DSOTM more than Animals.

Echoes is my favorite song in the universe. The rest of those are up there (well not HM so much but Dogs, Sheep, SOYCD) however my favorite other Floyd songs are Childhood's End and WYWH.

DeusExMachina 09-29-2005 06:14 PM
I like WYWH and DSOTM more than Animals.
I agree. I like most Pink Floyd albums more than Animals. It just never struck me.

WYWH is my favorite, then Animals. I love Pigs.

clairvoyant 09-29-2005 06:34 PM

I personally think DSOTM is pretty overrated. WYWH and Animals are my top two.

YouGottaBeCrazy 09-29-2005 06:40 PM

I love DSOTM. I still don't think "Money" fits into the vibe of the album though.
I love DSOTM. I still don't think "Money" fits into the vibe of the album though.
Money is a great song but I agree with you. In terms of the album, Money is somewhat of a weak link in the concept.

Yeah, I love the song (you just don't mess with that sax solo :p ), but it kind of sticks out on the album to me. Without that song, who knows if the album would have even been as popular when it came out, though.
