I love Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step but I hated Emotive with a passion. Doing crappy covers of classic songs is an original idea, but I think they should stray away from that.
I'd just like to know what vocalist, if any, could fill the shoes of MJK.
I think Lajon of Sevendust would do okay at it. Haha it'd be funny if billy corgan replaced maynard hahaha how weird would that sound?

Wow, I forgot about Lajon. But Billy Corgan?....... EWW.
songmeanings.net is one of the worst sites around for anything like an accurate interpretation of what lyrics are all about. I've been there a few times, and it's been useless for most of them. I hated eMotive, and thought it was one of the most disappointing albums I've ever heard. Although the over politicisation of it annoyed me a bit, the fact that the music wasn't any good was what really got me about it, but there we go...I wasn't wild on the idea of a covers album anyway.
I should force everyone to finish rants against that album with the sentence "......but at least passive was good".

But yes, terrible is agreed again. For both parties in question in your comment

Yeah i hate songmeanings, they relate every single tool song to be about religion, which most are not about. The only song i like on eMOTIVE would be passive, and sometimes i listen to imagine.

Agreed, Passive was the one good song on that album, not that it comes close to any of their other work though.

White Goodman 04-17-2005 05:10 PM

They think every Tool song is about religion or anal sex. The anal sex part got very annoying after reading comments on some of Tool's instrumental work. How do you get anal sex out of Triad?

Adam Jones is GOD 04-17-2005 05:12 PM

passive isnt an original APC song 9for anyone who didnt already know). It was a track from the Tapeworm project which was about to vanish into the land of neverrealsedhell (like the Mogwai-Deftones joint song :upset: X1000000). That is, until APC took it, covered it and finally allowed the public's ears to sample it

White Goodman 04-17-2005 05:15 PM

The Tapeworm song was titled "Vacant". As was APC's live version of it. It's pretty much the same thing as Passive, except Passive has some minor lyrical changes and isn't quite as "heavy" if you know what I mean.

Yeah, although they gave the song life, they still managed to f**k it up a bit.

opeth_oasis 04-17-2005 05:18 PM

songfacts isnt much better

Moses 04-17-2005 05:18 PM

I think Emotive was probably put together in a matter of minutes. It just seems like somthing MJK did while he was bored one day.

If not that, then it sounds very forced.

The whole album is covers isnt it? Im not sure i havent bothered looking up anything about this album.

Huber 04-17-2005 05:23 PM

I didn't think Emotive was that bad, but I guess a lot of people hated it.

opeth_oasis 04-17-2005 05:25 PM

emotive had its moments i guess........ but its no thirteenth step

White Goodman 04-17-2005 05:25 PM

Yeah, I think so. Except for Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums, that is a horrible version of another A pefect song, Pet.

I think its fair to say there is no completely original band wrote material on that album.

opeth_oasis 04-17-2005 05:27 PM

yeah i hate that song, but pet is really good. Thirteenth Step is my favourite APC album

White Goodman 04-17-2005 05:30 PM

Pet is my favorite APC song. It's just such a shame they had to f**k it up.

I bought the DVD aMOTION the other day. The DVD was pretty good i guess. But the cd that came with it, wow it was almost as bad as eMotive. How do you make remixes to APC songs? Remixes?

opeth_oasis 04-17-2005 05:31 PM

ive herd a judith remix, it was terrible

Huber 04-17-2005 05:39 PM

You mix them, again.

/rimshot

I was gunna buy that DVD, but something told me not too. I got a Primus one instead. I'll get aMotive next time. Give it a spin.

White Goodman 04-17-2005 05:42 PM

all the aMOTION DVD is a bunch of music videos and a few live performances. It also had some Bikini Bandit shorts on it. I really have no clue what those shorts were about. But if you like the music videos then I recommend it.

edit: It does have some MJK commentary on it, which I thought was interesting.

opeth_oasis 04-17-2005 05:45 PM

i dont see the point in any cover albums, IMO it just shows you've run out of ideas.

Moses 04-17-2005 05:45 PM
I think they just kinda whipped emotive/amotion together without thinking. It's half-assed if you ask me.
Thats kinda what I said before.

White Goodman 04-17-2005 05:48 PM

The occasional live cover I have no problem with, AKA Diary of a Lovesong-APC or No Quarter-Tool. But I agree, an entire album dedicated to cover songs is a terrible idea.

opeth_oasis 04-17-2005 05:53 PM

oh yeah live covers are fine, most of them anyway

Moses 04-17-2005 05:55 PM

New subject.

What does everyone think what Tool would be like if Paul never left?

misunderstood 04-17-2005 05:57 PM

eMOTIVE was an album that was pretty much rushed. MJK said it himself. I believe their intentions were to bring out a completely original album but when their record label gave them a deadline they decided to go with a cover album. I have it. I've listened to it twice maybe three times. It takes a while to grow on ya, I guess.

sorry, my post came out after the "new topic" one above..

Huber 04-17-2005 05:58 PM

Not knowing much about Paul, or about bass, I don't have the slightest clue.
