Jim Morrison had the IQ of a genius supposedly. I'd probably go with Bob Dylan though he wasn't exactly what you call ‘book’ smart like a mathematician or a scholar would be but kind of like a philosopher type, an intellectual who saw the world the way it was not blinded by the bull**** that surrounds us all. I don’t know it’s kind of hard to explain my respect for Dylan. My respect for him lies farther than strictly the music it’s just some of things he says really moves me in a way I can’t quite explain, I can’t think of any other musician that is like him in this way.
Jim Morrisons IQ was 148 I think...I remember reading it in his Bio by Stephen Whateverhislastnameis. I think after being an alcoholic for five or so years, and taking acid every day for a couple years and then starting into hard drugs, his brain wasn't working at full capacity from a education-type point of view, if you know what I'm saying. But he was still a very intelligent guy. I remember (from his bio) he was out partying with some guys and one friend had to go home to write a paper on like the Earl of Sussex or something like that....and Jim told him he could do it, and typed it all up that night including a complete bibliography (from memory) and his friend got an A on the paper. That's how freakin smart Jim Morrison was. And I agree with what you say about Bob Dylan a hundred percent. He definitely saw the universe through his own set of eyes. He had his own thoughts and ideas. I swear to god Jim Morrison is singing on that Beat of the Earth album. |
Nick Cave seems quite intellectual, too.
Actually, Nick Cave just owns all. |

Hey happy birthday.
I thought you were like 13  Happy Birthday Jon, I'm sick too. It blows. NP: The Beatles - Wait |
Bob Dylan was incredibly smart. Honestly, I think Bob Dylan is one of the most intelligent people ever. And he's more than just street smart, he's actually very educated. In Chronicles, he talks a lot about all the books he's read and poetry he's readd and how it's inspired him. And he's a really fantastic writer. I'm not even talking songwriter, if he wasn't a musician, he could have been a professional novelist. Chronicles is one of the best written books that I ever read, it all flows perfectly, and all his descriptions and metaphors and stuff work perfectly. I think he's just a genius. And the way he is able to articulate his own ideas through writing and music amazes me. I worship him.
Happy birthday Jon. It sucks that you're sick. np: Radiohead- No Surprises |

Happy birthday.
I'm two and a half months older than you. Black Sabbath are so awesome. |
Wow i'm probably one of the oldest people here.

Happy birthday Jon. It sucks that you're sick. np: Radiohead- No Surprises
Some of the greatest Bob Dylan fans I know are English teachers, not surprisingly. We got to listen to "it's All Over Now, Baby Blue" in AP English a while ago because it was an inspiration for a short story we read in class (Where are you going? Where have you been? By Joyce Carol Oats) |
My English teacher wouldn't let me pick Bob Dylan or Jim Morrison as a poet to report on. I ended up with Robert Pinsky.

That sucks. Last year we had to disect a song/poem in English class and I chose It's Alright Ma. Some time this year we were studying the Rwandan genocide in English and I wrote a paper that was tied in with Dylan's Only a Pawn in His Game...my English teacher asked me to bring a few different Dylan lyrics so she could read them. I actually got her interested. She didn't know Dylan wrote Blowin' In the Wind. |
Tommy just came on. It's on some digital cable movie channel.

Bob Dylan is so philisophic in his lyrics, and he seemed very mature for his age when he was younger on No Direction Home. I'm not a huge fan, but I respect him mucho. I don't know much about Morrison.
I'd say that the members of Pink Floyd were some of the... better educated CRers I guess, they definitely had a very good understanding of music theory and good song writing using literative devices like allusions. np: Little Martha - Allman Brothers Band |

Oh dear, what have I just done just now? |
So, yea, that band Little Barrie I mentioned the other day... they aren't even classic rock haha
I downloaded the album off another forum, and was convinved it was, since it just has that feel. It turns out they are a trio out of England, and the album JUST came out. Anyway, I love it so much. You guys all need to look into it, it's called We Are Little Barrie. It's got such a good groove to it. |
YSI maybe?
I'm listening to the Killing Floor album, great stuff. I sent it to a friend too. |
Does anyone else here like Eric Claton's Rainbow Concert?
I just got it, and I think it's a pretty good jam, with some great old stuff like presence of the lord. From his Blind Faith days. Also, what are your thoughts on Blind Faith? I think their s/t album is pretty good. |

I saw Badmoon talking about them in here so I downloaded and couple songs, and they sounded like they could've came from some early 70s blues rock band. But then I noticed that their debut came out in 1995. |
I was traveling through Kentucky on Wednesday and heard a Traveling Wilburys song on the radio. Thats a first. For the most part, the classic rock stations in that area are quite odd.
*Goes to download Little Barrie* |
