you can mod playstation and xbox controllers to hook up to USB ports pretty easily, my buddy uses xbox controllers to play his n64 emulator and they work just fine.

you can get some usb thing so you can play with a controller

Yeah the ps3 charger cables are usb cables so I can plug it into the laptop no problem but I can't actually get it to work.
