Wow this is a boring saturday. I spent 45min getting my floyd exactly level with the body of my guitar (instead of only visibly level) just because I couldn't think of anything else to do. Played pontifex II some more, not sure why building bridges is fun but whatever.

Not much to do till 9 or so when I head to Anchorage to see how the club scene is tonight. I came out $8 ahead alltogether from yesterday's night on the town, hustling pool ftw.

Anyone else going out tonight?

Ive never been much on trick shots, unless they happen to set themselves up in the course of a game.

I do tend to carom a lot more than I really should, which I suppose looks tricky. Most people get all omgwtfbbq about it, but its really as simple as aiming any other shot.

BTW the guy in that vid couldn't hold a cue proper to save his life. :lol:

I'm not good at deflecting the cue ball off but I'm good at strangely-angled combo shots. What's, like, the math behind that? Where should you try to hit the cue to get it to deflect properly?

Those are pretty simple really.. Take that pic i posted as an example.

Get up behind the 3 (red) ball as if it was the cue ball, and find the line for IT to hit the 2 (blue) ball in. Your aiming point for the cue ball is on that same line, on the OTHER side of the ball.

Now, the only tricky part about the shot is to hit it perfectly there with a hell of a lot of top spin (right on the top of the ball), absolutly no english left or right.

You can use english with these shots too in time if you need to (get out of the way of the ball coming back, get a better leave after the shot, etc. But one step at a time for now.

I still don't get how to make the ball curve around.

I can do some english and I can do the top/backspin, n yeah.

So I'd want to hit it something like this

I'm useless with english, but I've got top and bottom spins down. Jumpshots too. Every time I try to use english my cue just slips off of the ball and I scratch. I've got no bloody idea how to make those spin shots where the ball goes for about a foot then turns around and goes the other way.

Haha yes, a masse shot is a bit tricky.

The basic idea behind it is you are putting MASSIVE spin (english) on the cue ball [B][I]without[/I][/B] making it jump. When the ball finallly 'catches' the felt it will curve as you told it to with your english.

There is as much art to that as there is math, its really best practiced to get good at. Just don't get kicked out of the pool hall for putting rips in the felt trying it. :lol:

You hit the object ball with the 'closest' part of the cue ball. That would in the perspective of that pic be the right side of the cue ball.

i basically have freee rule over my friend's billiards table, and i can pull off a few trick shots, most of the ones i do aren't 'legal' though

my friend has a pool table but it rly sux and none of he or his friends know how to play by real bar rules so it gets boring for me

But, more like this -

6 ball (points with cue)

I cue bank, carom off the 4 ball, hit the 6 ball in the pocket I called. Even tho i didn't say all that krap its still fine.

But If im playing some drunkie for money or just to play a game, I'll call the entire thing out.

We get different levels of naziism at the bar I play at- Some people are satisfied calling a ball and a corner and whatever happens happens, but some people will get on your case of the ball even so much as bounces off of the edge of the pocket before going in, claiming you didn't call the bank. Personally, when you have on of those long complex strings laid out it's just fun to say "OKAY GICE TRIPLE BANK, 4 IN THE CORNER THEN DRAW BACK AND 5 IN THE SIDE HERE WE GO." and then make it.
